As a goalkeeper and a forward on my soccer, I did read the The Keeper this helped me become better at my sport and I can do anything that my mind is to like Tim Howard and I look up to him so I can see someone like him go through challenges than overcome them.
My son plays for a youth travel team as a goalie and one of his friends gave him this book. He flew through it and so I picked it up to read myself. The book has some great life lessons and is an easy read to get through. There is a pretty good flow and keeps the reader interested. I think any child interested in sports could benefit from reading this book and seeing the ups and downs along his journey to success. Tim Howard also has to overcome personal and physical challenges yet rises to the top. You cheer for his successes after knowing the struggles to get there. I am taking away the importance of mental toughness and focus - not matter what your goal is - sports, business, family ......you have to persevere.
This book provides a compelling look behind the scenes of a professional futbol (soccer) player at the highest level (English Premier League).
Tim's story is unique in that he suffers from an often crippling handicap (Tourette's Syndrome) yet channels his focus and physical abilities into a successful career.
Tim admirably uses his popularity to give back to others, particularly children, with this affliction.
It leaves the reader wanting to know more about his later career, but one can't have everthing.
THE KEEPER by Tim Howard is a non fiction novel based on Tim Howard’s life mostly revolved around soccer but also about his personal accomplishment and challenges. The main character, Tim Howard, is a talented and hardworking man who always looks for ways to improve his game. Conflict in the story is caused when he has to make major moves to other countries, change teams, or has to deal with a really tough game. The action takes place all over the world but mostly in America; this sort of setting is very diverse, culturally and economically. He has experienced and live in extreme poverty and also lived in a giant mansion while playing for Manchester United in the United Kingdom. The best part about reading this novel is that it is about soccer and soccer has been a passion of mine ever since I was 5 years old and I learned more about soccer while reading. For example, when I was reading about what it was like to play on one of the best soccer clubs in the world which was in Europe, and how crazy the games were, it got me completely stuck in the book, which is crazy for someone with ADD. There is nothing negative to say about this book, to me me it is an all in all excellent read. I think anyone who plays soccer would love to read this book also anyone who has Tourette Syndrome would love to read how Howard persevered with his Tourette Syndrome and how he became one of the best goalkeepers in the world. The book met my expectations about almost every aspect I predicted to read about. While reading this book, I was filled with great excitement as well as a desire to read more books like his.
So now that I have finally become a legitimate fan of the beautiful game, I want to read more about it. Picked this up at the used book store for less than $4. Turned out to be a great read. I never knew Howard had Tourette Syndrome. Howard was raised by a single mom who worked extra jobs to help him be able to have the best opportunities to advance his game; had a mentor who coached him for free for years. Inspirational story, for sure. His co-author, Ali Benjamin, did a great job of putting in story in written form. I can see how this was a NY Times Bestseller. Sad how his obsession with being the best athlete possible cost him his marriage. While he mans up and takes responsibility for the failure of his marriage, I cannot help but wonder if that is really the whole story. Since the book was published (2015) he has transitioned into retirement and into his role as a studio analyst for NBC’s coverage for the Premier League, a job he excels at as well.
The book "The Keeper" by Jeremy V. Jones was a very inspirational book! It showed all of the hardships of Tim Howard and what he did to face the obstacles he had to over come. When he was a kid he had really bad tourette syndrome which was really hard to cope with but it made him a very special soccer player. He also grew up very poor and yet got to become one of the greatest goalies of all time! Over all the story was a very informative source about Tim Howard and was very inspirational to people who think they cant do things because of what they have.
This book is very inspiring. It is about a famous athlete who has dealt with TS or Tourette Syndrome nearly all of his life. It tells how he overcame this to become a world class goalkeeper.
