This award-winning book tells the story of a young whale's friendship with an old blue whale. It includes an interactive CD-ROM that teaches the science behind the story through narrated lessons and printable activities.
Perhaps an inspiration for the budding marine biologist. It's a story that hints at the dangers of man and contains the morale listen to the warnings of your elders.
I like the illustrations of the blue whale and humpback whales but feel that the author missed a great opportunity to teach us more about them. In this story they're almost merely reduced to anthropogenic characters rather than the unique mammals that they are. The book does come with a CD and I can see from the pictures that whale education and games are included but I would have really liked to have seen some whale details in the story itself.
