I'm originally from a dry warm Meditteranean climate so living in the Northeast has been quite a challenge. I like older books like this because they don't use new tech or brand name products. Older books tend to use tried and true methods and I like that. Definitely will be using this as a go-to for all my gardening endeavors while I live in the 10th rainiest and 8th cloudiest city in the US. Not to mention the 69 inches of snow we get on average every year. Sigh. The things we do for love.
recommendations for which species of plants and trees are hardy for zone 3 and 4. discusses the difficulties of growing with our extremely cold temperatures and such a short growing season, along with many other problems we encounter. most notably, that even though a plant SAYS its hardy to -25`F, that doesn't mean it can handle the short season. a very good book.
