The definitive book on exhibiting purebred dogs by one of the foremost professional handlers in America along with a successful international trainer and handler. Covers early show training of puppies, conditioning, stacking, ring strategy, ring etiquette, and the secret formula for success in the show ring. An introduction to dog showing for novices and a refresher for experienced exhibitors looking to polish their skills.
Peter Green began his long, illustrious career at age ten helping his uncle Harold Snow, owner of the world famous Felstead Welsh Terrier Kennels in his native Wales. He first came to the United States in 1958 after accepting the job as manager of the Trucote terrier kennels in Malibu, California. Homesick, he returned to Wales after fifteen months, but returned in 1963 as manager/handler of the highly regarded Pool Forge Kennels, located not far from his present home in Bowmansville, Pennsylvania. Since starting his own Greenfield Kennels in 1967 and obtaining his official AKC Professional Handler's License, Peter Green has won Bests in Show at every major event in the country at least once. Chicago International, Philadelphia, Boston, Beverly Hills, Santa Barbara and Golden Gate numerous times, Montgomery County Terrier Specialty seven times and at the Westminster Kennel Club on an unprecedented four occasions.
I really enjoyed this book. It has a lot of detailed information useful for new dog conformation show owner-handlers. The writing style is concise and sounds just like when Mr. Green speaks, which was great. Professional handlers like him make it look easy. It takes a lot of practice & observation to make preparing & exhibiting dogs look so effortless.
