Growing up sometimes is very hard to do and if you’re George Barrios, going to school can be just as dangerous. George Barrios, “the lard ass” of Oaks River High School, as he was commonly known by almost every one in school was having another one of those days when he had to run for his life from his fellow students who had nothing better to do but pick on him. He couldn’t help it if he was fat and unpopular, and he sure couldn’t help what others thought of him. And just when he thought he was about to be hit by one of the jocks, something happened. At precisely 10:15 am everything stopped and time stood still. For a short moment he looked upon the event at a blessing as he walked through the school trying to get to his locker. Then it appeared and made him wished he was dead.

Wish as he might George was not the last person left on the face of the earth. A few others had succeeded as he to be stuck mobile when the clock stopped. A fellow student weight-lifter, a pretty young deaf girl and a teacher are all trapped inside of Oaks River High with an unknown assailant that is doing its best to get at them.

I really liked this book. Superbly written by Trent Kinsey, who has a whimsical eye for detail and a macabre sense of humor to combine this coming of age story with a horror twist that made me keep reading to the end.

What do we really know about time? Students Mark, George and Jamie, and one of their teachers, Kathryn, find out when they inexplicably fall between the cracks of time. What they find there couldn’t possibly have been created in any normal person’s worst nightmare, but find it they did. Lodged securely between one second and the next, in a place where all things have frozen, four diverse people must learn to work together even though working together might not be enough. In a world where not even sound waves move, one of them sacrifices everything for a newfound friend. Which one and how? Well, you’ll have to buy the book and find out. And when the rest of them fall back into time - how do you explain what happened? After all, only a second in time has passed - hasn’t it?

This started out good but then towards the end it was just kind of like "Oh well, we're done. The End." without any sort of big climax.
