The Ruby: A re-entry survival story

Rate this book
For many overseas workers, re-entry is the hardest part... Suzanne Johnson and her family live in a children's centre in Mozambique. They love their community, ministry and way of life, but other factors are pulling them back to the UK. They face a difficult to stay or to return. This is the story of their last months in Africa, followed by a journey across through depression and broken relationships to reconciliation, healing and hope. "The Ruby" is ultimately a testimony of the healing power of God's love. Many text books describe “how to” re-enter well, but a story can be more powerful than a manual, touching the heart as well as the head. Suzanne Johnson has written her story in the hope that it will touch the hearts of those struggling with transition. Her experience as a Clinical Psychologist gives her a unique perspective. All proceeds will be donated to the Zimpeto Children’s Centre (www.irisminzimpeto.org) What people are saying about The “We are excited about this book and how it may help Iris leavers as well as others who leave long term ministry and return to "normal" life. Suzanne has walked the hard yards and her testimony is a blessing to so many others”. Steve and Ros Lazar, Directors of the Zimpeto Children’s Centre, Mozambique. “I think The Ruby is amazing, with many emotions and similarities for my re-entry. I found it soothing to my soul to realize that it's not just me that has had these emotions. There have been many tears shed while reading it - tears of healing and release. I can only see this bringing healing to many who have been beaten on re-entry and feel lost. I LOVE the hope at the end that everyone’s stories matter and nothing is wasted”. C.K, former worker in Mozambique. “I am in tears having finished this amazing book. It had a profound impact on me and Suzanne writes so beautifully”. C.B, former worker in Central Asia.

No words

I sincerely have no words. I never could adequately describe the re entry period.... What I called the mourning period when returning. I love that your story makes one feel less alone in those struggles and even encouraging about the character and nature of God. Definitely a must read for missionary types.
