This book was a great fun read. It was very easy and entertaining with a great twist at the end. Loved it.

This one is very dark and sad. Unlike any other GB book that I can recall, this one opens up with the protagonist / Heidi, moving to go live with her uncle because her parents died in a car wreck. Wow. What a way to open up a Goosebumps book... intended for kids, nonetheless...
The whole first half of the book is really good. R.L. Stine does a great job at creating atmosphere and building a tense, isolated setting. A feeling of sadness pervades the narrative of Heidi and it is pretty well written for the most part. No humor in this book, unlike most Goosebumps.
My problem with this book, comes towards the end. The first plot twist is good, although it has logic issues like every GB book. But after the really intense climax of the book, certain characters (of significance) simply disappear without explanation. Heidi never sees them or discovers where they went, leaving a lot of ambiguity to the ending, and then Stine puts the rotten cherry on top of the crap-cake with a stupid second-twist at the very end that's there... just because it's a GB book and apparently every GB book has to have one. It doesn't work in this book. At all.
Also, Heidi ends up making a really dumb decision towards the final act of the book that is purely driven by plot just so we can get that stupid twist ending.

Nachdem ich zuvor The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde gelesen habe, wollte ich mir angucken, was es mit dieser Neuerzählung auf sich hat. Generell habe ich dieses Buch sehr positiv in Erinnerung (was sicherlich auch der Grund dafür ist, dass ich es immer noch besitze) und was soll ich sagen?
Erneut bin ich einfach nur überrascht wie tiefgründig es ist. Das erste Mal ist mir das bei Es wächst weiter aufgefallen, da waren die Charaktere aber gefühlt noch etwas jünger. Heidi ist 12 Jahre alt und hat doch sehr erwachsene Gedankengänge, die mich schon zu Beginn sehr beeindruckt haben. Damit habe ich nicht gerechnet.
In Heidis Kusine Marianna habe ich mich direkt verliebt (#girlcrush), nur verstehe ich nicht wirklich wie Jekyll sein Geld verdient. Irgendwie muss er doch seine Forschung und die Angestellte finanzieren? Die Freundschaft zu Aaron und die Darstellung des Dorfes haben dafür ein wenig gelitten, waren aber immer noch in Ordnung. Das Ende dagegen ist richtig supi. Ehrlich.

Gradevole rielaborazione della celeberrima opera di Stevenson, qui ridimensionata a misura di bambino e omaggiata con simpatiche frecciatine che solo apparentemente sanno di coincidenza.
Il colpo di scena delle battute conclusive - complice anche l'ottimo virtuosismo di Jacobus - riesce; abbastanza scrausa, al contrario, la chiusura finale, che non sta in piedi manco con le stampelle.

Lettura super consigliata a bambini e ragazzi... Ma è anche consigliata per noi adulti che, vogliamo tornare bambini per un po'.
Questa è stata una lettura perfetta per periodo, abbiamo mistero e perché no, anche un po' di curiosità riguardo al mostro che si aggira nel piccolo paesino dove la nostra protagonista Heidi si è appena trasferita. Una domanda però sorge spontanea, sarà davvero lo zio di Heidi il mostro o è qualcun'altro???
Una bellissima lettura che mi fa sempre piacere rileggere e che rimane una delle mie preferite dell'infanzia.
A mio parere è più bello questo libro rispetto a "LO STRANO CASO DEL DOT. JEKYLL E MR. HYDE". Finisco col dire... LEGGETELO!!!

Heidi Davidson is moving in with her Uncle Jekyll and his daughter Marianna. But there is something odd about the Jekyll's. Dr.Jekyll, a scientist, spends hours experimenting in his lab. And his Daughter Marianna, is a tad bit unfriendly. And with a supposed rumours that her uncle is 'The beast' racking havoc in the village, Heidi is surely in big trouble.
This book was fun to read, it reminded me of all the 'fun memories' I had reading Goosebumps books. This story was definitely thrilling and Surprisingly Dark, compared to other Goosebumps books. And not to mention, R.L Stine, the master story teller never fails to pull a surprising twist in the story. It's always exciting to read books with a twist, and this story surely has a shocker. To think of it, the way R.L Stine fools the reader throughout the book to pull a twist at the end is simply brilliant writing and storytelling. A spooky book and commendable writing. This book is bound to give you the spooks.

Somehow I never read any of this Goosebumps series despite having vivid memories of some of the cover art. Which is good, because now I have some fresh ones to get me through October. This one was as typical Goosebumps as a book can get.

Pretty much a perfect little Goosebumps book and the best of the 2000 series. It's got a great Gothic style to it. Not bad for a book involving This book is so metal.

My first Series 2000 book I have ever read. I was pleasantly suprised, definitely a lot darker than the original series. I still can’t get over Marianna killing her hamster, quite disturbing.

Orangtua Heidi tewas karena kecelakaan. Setelah itu, ia terpaksa harus tinggal bersama Paman Jekyll dan Marianna. Tepat setelah sampai di desa itu, Heidi langsung mendengar rumor bahwa penduduk sana sedang berada dalam ketakutan karena sesosok monster berburu di sana ketika malam. Mereka pun mencurigai pamannya yang merupakan ilmuwan gila dan bermaksud untuk balik memburunya. Meski tak mau, lama-kelamaan Heidi ikut curiga karena pamannya yang bermuka seram itu terlalu gila kerja dan sepupunya yang sangat cantik itu bersikap sangat tidak bersahabat.
Sepanjang cerita, aku seperti dibuat menahan napas. Deskripsi dan pembangunan suasana rumah yang besar, terpencil, gelap, serta misterius—sangat bagus.
Aku terlibat rasa emosional dengan tokoh utamanya. Penjelasan tentang tokoh antagonisnya juga bisa memberikan efek terharu meski alasannya mudah ditebak. Tokoh Aaron yang informatif dan berani juga terasa menyenangkan. Tapi, mungkin karena aku mulai baca ceritanya dengan malas dan ingin menyelesaikannya dengan cepat karena reading challenge, jadi novelnya terasa kurang spesial di hatiku meski bagus.
Aku agak melongo karena ada kekerasan terhadap hewan dan anak di sini. Sepertinya tidak terlalu menyebabkan trauma karena ada "penyelesaiannya", tapi jaga-jaga saja untuk para pembaca muda.
Aku agak sebal soal nasib malang protagonis yang sepertinya hampir selalu harus ada di akhir novel R.L. Stine, tapi setidaknya di sini ada ciri-ciri pasca bangun tidur (halaman 85). Selain itu, aku agak kurang puas soal nasib tidak pasti kedua saudara Heidi, tapi enggak masalah karena kuanggap mereka berakhir kayak yang di halaman 125 saja.
Aku suka hal terkait buku harian. Ending cerita R.L. Stine selalu ada cliffhanger, jadi bisa tertebak akan jadi apa nantinya. Namun, aku tetap merasa puas dengan keterangan-keterangan di novel ini yang sama seperti imajinasiku. Karena jalan pikiran kami sama, jadinya enggak terasa out of nowhere.
Pertanyaan:
1. Sampai sejauh apa si pembantu mengenal keluarga Jekyll, kok dia tetap menganggap mereka baik meski sikap kedua Jekyll sangat aneh dan bahkan tidak terpengaruh dengan rumor?
2. Berarti Dr. Jekyll benar-benar harus berubah dulu jadi manusia serigala dong supaya bisa menguji seberapa besar khasiat obat penawarnya karena dia menjadikan dirinya sendiri sebagai tikus percobaan? Jadi, "narasi jebakan" Heidi tentang Dr. Jekyll yang "mirip monster, tapi ternyata bukan monster" itu enggak terlalu menipu dong?

What a cute (is that the word I want to use?) twist to the infamous Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde! This book was already on my September list for banned books week, and I'm so happy I was able to sneak it in! Since my reading is dwindling (not a bad thing!) from having a life again post covid-shutdown, and in-person schooling is back up again, I wanted to sneak in one more book before the end of the month. What a perfect choice! I read this in less than two hours, and it was after I got home from a night of conferences (which went great btw!!). I was able to chill in bed and have a good time with some easy, suspenseful, fun reading.
Heidi moves in with her uncle after her parents die in an accident. She's nervous to start a new life but tries to think of it as a new start. When she hears rumors about a human-like beast rampaging and destroying the nearby village, she must find out if she is safe living in her uncle's mansion!

Das Buch ist von der Handlung sehr spannend und packt von der ersten Seite an. Ich finde es ist eins der besten Bücher aus der Gänsehaut-Reihe. Durch den leichten, detailreichen Schreibstil kommt es schnell Spannung und auch Grusel Feeling. Für meinen Empfinden ist es eine Art "Dr. Jekyll und Mr. Hyde" - Geschichte in kindgerechter Form, was etwas Eigenes hat. Die Charaktere und die Handlungsorte sind sehr schön beschrieben und regt die Fantasie an.
Auf jeden Fall ist das Buch eine klare Leseempfehlung.

This one was definitely better than the previous ones I read from the goosebumps series. Fortunately, the ending is a twist and isn't like the beginning of the book foreshadowed. Also, this one seems to be a mix of normal horror and psychological horror as there are rumours and the reader thinks until almost the end that someone else is the culprit. This one is playing with your mind.
3 stars as it was an average read and also not too special. The story repeats itself kinda by repeating who the monster is and such. But I guess it's due to trying to manipulate the reader into believing the rumours that go around the small town.

كلاسيكيه رائعه تنتقل ( هايدي داڤيدسون ) الي منزل عمها الوحيد دكتور ( بالمرچيكل) و ابنته ( ماريانا ) ، منزل ضخم يسكنه الدكتور بالمرچيكل يقع اعلي تل داخل أحدي المدن الصغيرة ، مدينة هادئة إلا من ثرثرات القوم عن الرجل الذي يتحول لذئب و يلتهم المدينة و ينبشها من حين لأخر
تنتقل هايدي بعد حادث مريرة إلي عمها أملا في حياة جديدة أكثر هدوءا و لكن من الواضح أن الأمر مختلف ف رائحة المنزل عطنه و الجدران كئيبه و لكن بالتأكيد هذا لا يعتبر شيئا ذات أهمية ف ماذا من الممكن أن يكون لهذا أهمية أو دلالة ؟

The book is fun for people who love science fiction or mystery. I've to admit that it lacks scariness and the ending and twist are pretty abrupt. Still, it is a fine book. It refers to popular stuff like Franknestein, Godzilla, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde (of courses).
Alhough Dr Jekyll in this book is said to have little animal like traits, and the cover art implies that he is the HORROR, the HORROR was actually Jekyll's rebellious daughter Marianna who became a beast at night.

A new and modern take on Jekyll and Hyde that I simply loved. Heidi loses her parents in a horrific traffic accident and has to go live with her eccentric uncle and cousin in a backwater town in the middle of nowhere. When rumours of a monster invade this otherwise lacklustre town, Heidi gets more excitement than she could have thought possible. This is R L Stine at his best.

J'ai bcp aime....
Déjà il se lit très vite mais pas que .. Il est prenant, captivant, haletant, etc.... Ce Chair de Poule est digne d'un roman d'adulte avec un vrai suspens, des vrais frayeurs, une histoire vraiment bien tournée au fil des pages...
Franchement pas déçue du tout et ça fait plaisir car le dernier que j'avais lu était vraiment un flop !!!!

Read this before but barley remembered it. But this was great. Deals with some pretty dark themes for a goosebumps book. With a genuinely good mystery and fun plot twists. With a really suspenseful climax.

Genuinely great book. Heidi is such a neat protagonist, and her Uncle and Cousin are really deep characters. I never felt bored with this book, and this is a scarier Series 2000 book tbh. Also, the climax is unbelievably dark for a Goosebumps book. Loved it!

the book becomes dark at the beginning of the book, which I never saw before in a Goosebumps book. But when the book moves forward, the main character just ends up becoming more all over the place in the book. The book mainly is in this mansion with her uncle and daughter. That's the book.
