Sean Wolfe knows what men want. In his anthologies Aroused, Taboo, and Close Contact, he delivered smart, sophisticated tales of intensely erotic escapades. Now he goes one step further, with a collection of eight interconnected stories that explore the very nature of desire--how it shapes us, drives us, brings us together. . .and just how far we're willing to go to satisfy it. . .A teenage runaway gets an education in the ways of the street, and the heart, from a gorgeous young hustler in "Street Smart." In "Head of the Class," a college athlete who's used his sexual talents to keep his grades up learns all about pleasure from one of his professors. The exclusive Kappa Lambda Phi fraternity includes a mind-blowing initiation that's only the beginning of their debauchery in "Frat Frenzy." And in "DudeSearch" two men who frequent an online site specializing in random hookups agree to meet--and are completely unprepared for the fireworks that explode between them. . .As compelling as they are explicit, these stories offer more than instant gratification. They're funny, touching, intimate, and complex--and of course, incredibly, irresistibly hot. . .
Read the first three stories in this book, which was a Lambda Award nominee in the Erotica category. The writing is okay, and the characters and foundational plots are interesting. But the ultimate direction of each story is implausible, and the erotic scenes focus on dominance and oversized organs, not my thing at all. So the other five stories will remain unread.
Sean Wolfe, author of the erotic anthologies "Taboo," "Aroused," and "Close Contact," returns with his steamy fourth short story collection, "Eight Inches," which comes complete with his trademark hardcore scenes of explicit sex amongst mostly troubled young men who are all loosely intertwined.
Representing an inch for each story, the men featured in these eight titillating tales range across young and older, wealthy and destitute, high-powered and unacknowledged, well-bred and uneducated. The most apparent common thread they share is a primal hunger for raw, unadulterated sex with men.
Carlos, a half-Mexican teen flees his home and an abusive stepfather for a life of on the streets, where he befriends fellow hustler Ricky in "Street Smart."
College freshman Justin plays football for UCLA and reluctantly services the instructors who threaten to fail him--until he meets psychology professor Richard Norman, in "Head of the Class."
Rafael Suarez is a closet-case whose aspirations to become president of Mexico are potentially compromised in "Politico."
The privileged Corey, introduced in perhaps the juiciest entry, "Frat Frenzy," is a Yale upperclassman who pines for his childhood friend-with-benefits, Roger... until, that is, he meets Carlos (from "Street Smart").
The weakest, and most disturbing, story, "Tick Tock," is about the mentally ill Adam, a Walgreen's store clerk plagued by hallucinations of insects and vermin, a condition dating back to college where he met (and never got over) Manuel--a character later to be seen in "Big As Hell" (Inch Seven) as a South American billionaire.
In DudeSearch, a recovered Adam reappears as a prison inmate, where his friend, Harmon, works as a guard, and makes the acquaintance of Roger (from "Frat Frenzy") via an online hookup site.
Most of these characters return for the final entry, "No Looking Back," where all loose ends are tied up, perhaps a little too neatly.
The author's effort should be commended, because while each story could potentially stand on its own, there is an actual running storyline, complete with a discernible plot. There's also some thoughtful dialogue that isn't just sex talk, and one or two underlying themes.
That being said, erotica fans will not be disappointed because the sex sequences will satisfy those into romance as well as raunch. Having read only one of the author's three previous collected works of erotic fiction, I will likely now seek out the other two.
However contrived, it was refreshing to read about characters that have some really intense sex, as opposed to mere descriptions of sexual acts where the participants could easily be nameless.
Sean Wolfe knows what men want. At least, that is what is proclaimed on the back cover of his latest collection of erotic escapades. These eight interconnected stories, by the author of Aroused, Taboo and Close Contact, as the back cover goes on to say, "...explore the very nature of desire."
I was immediately sucked into the first tale, Inch One, as Wolfe paints a picture of teen angst and the need to escape an abusive home. The characters are full and likable, and when the inevitable sexual encounter appears, there is a connection to the characters, like memories of escapades long forgotten. Inch by inch the stories unfold, in divergent setting from the ivy walls of elite schools to the dank streets of the Tenderloin, with characters who are 3-dimensional, damaged and horny, ultimately weaving back together to make Eight Inches a collection of erotica like none other.
Although some connections felt forced, it was still a treat to see characters from earlier Inches re-appear in the climactic final tales, some less damaged, some crazy as a loon. In Eight Inches, Sean Wolfe proves he does in fact know what men want, and delivers the goods with accuracy and a side of humor. It is a most enjoyable, laugh out loud collection. ~
These stories were not what I expected. The end of the synopsis says they are funny, touching, intimate, etc. and I heartily disagree. They were not funny or touching or intimate, which were the main reasons I did not like these stories. They were dark, gritty, and often seedy and/or dirty, which just made the sex scenes seem so less than sexy. There was only one or two stories where the characters actually seemed to share an emotional connection that made the sex scenes hot.
I love erotica and I love gay erotica, but these stories were more like pornographic, giving the 'cum shot' at the end and little emotional connection. They do have some plots in there, but it didn't help create intimacy in any way. I would have given it one star except for one or two stories that were good. I even skimmed some without reading because I wasn't into the prostitution, drugs, etc. Just did nothing for me!
A little too dark and gritty for my taste. There were also some aspects to the stories that made me uncomfortable, . Also, I guess I like an emotional connection between characters, even in my erotica. :-D
Some of the stories in this volume are very good and very hot. Others not so much. That all the stories tie together into a bittersweet ending is nice.
