This picks up with the silly Komuivitamin D zombie scenario. For some reason (possibly because he’s half insane) Komui invented a virus that turns people into ‘zombies’ and it’s highly contagious via bite. Soon almost everyone is infected and Komui has to find out who is patient zero so they can be given the antidote. Is it me or is Krory far more exciting zombified? Komui also has to figure out who used the virus and why. (Oddly the art here looks like an assistant drew the whole thing, as if this was an omake gone wild)

After this, things get deadly serious. The higher ups in the order don’t trust Allen and have him ensorcelled to keep him docile (or at least his arm). Allen and Cross have a long time where very important things are revealed about Allen, the Fourteenth and the fact that Allen could be in very big trouble. Afterwards, Allen is released only to have Cross have bad things happen to him and he ‘disappears.’ It’s obvious that the Adolph Hilter clone director has something going on behind everyone’s back with the exception of maybe Link. And is it me or did Bookman and Lavi suddenly demonstrate new psychic abilities? It’s a good volume. I’m sad I have to wait until August for the next volume.

Dr. Komui's Komuvitan D, an anti long term virus, was released and everyone in the Black Order is infected with it. They act like zombies, and once they bit someone, that person too gets infected. It's like a zombie apocalypse. Laster on, we discover a ghost was behind all of that. Fortunately, after everyone gets infected, Director Bak showed up and created a vaccine to cure everyone luckily. Later, Allen is brought into for interrogation by the central agency, confront by Cross, telling Allen about the 14th. Unfortunately, soon later into the book, Cross is murdered and his body is left unknown. Revolver seems to have an idea but even he is not 100% sure.

This serie is a perpetual 'here is an answer and here arze 174828 questions to go with it'. Love that for me. Also, there is a scene that ripped my heart out in there and I AM NOT OKAY!!! ON ANY LEVEL!!!

Wow, the way the mood swings in this! We started out with the vampire/zombie virus which was hilarious, scary, and touching all at once, a horror parody which showed how much Krory cares about Allen and Lavi, how much the Generals want to bite their students (and other people’s students they covet?), how far Allen is willing to flirt his way out of a crisis, and how seriously Komui takes his job, yet can be seriously silly while doing so. This was the light part of the book. The move twisted into something darker with a huge revelation about Allen Walker, who he really is, a secret threatening destroy everything he is. Allen is determined not to let that happen, to stay smiling, no matter how worried the other exorcists are about him.

The balance between serious and silly is remarkable in this series. Sometimes it overlaps and is hilarious. Sometimes I don’t get it. I love how intense the relationships are getting between the characters, how sweetness crawled into silliness, drawn by character development. The naked vampire generals were too funny, yet no less scary. The mystery and revelations around Allen are fascinating, leaving me eager to find out more. Overall this was one of the more engrossing volumes I’ve been lucky enough to read.

I hope the series picks up again. I fell absolutely in love with the first few volumes, but of late I've found the volumes less coherent as stories, and too often side-tracked into pointless humor that doesn't serve character or advance plot.

This is a good series, at least the core of it is fascinating and I love Allen and Lenalee and the bookmen, and the world behind them. I have to admit I hated the Zombies eat everybody storyline that ends in here...It was lame. Hoshino seemed uncertain whether it should be a joke or not, and the second half in this volume is illustrated and treated almost entirely as a gag. Ugh. The second half after the new HQ is introduced seems really good.

Character 4| Setting 5| Plot 3| Art 4| Enjoyment 2.5

Rating: 3.7

I hate the zombie arc, I am so glad this novel finished it. It felt silly, except for the very end of it.

After the zombois are done we get actual plot and this starts where the order starts to limit Allen's movements, and this is really where I start to hate rouvieler and what he does to our main boi. Allen is gonna start to have a bad time I feel.

The art is developing so well in this volume, I am excited to read the next one as I think it follows Kanda's past.

It wasn’t horrible, but it was definitely a mess. This volume switches from a filler zombie plot (it didn’t really add anything to the story at all) to serious shit with the inspector and the 14th. Not all of it was bad—I liked the chapters with Allen and Cross and there are some genuinely sweet moments sprinkled throughout the volume and good artwork as well, when I can actually tell what’s happening, unlike most of the zombie chapters.

4/5 This volume was fun and would be ranked higher but the mini arc at the beginning with Krory and a silly zombie virus was kinda meh. After we get back into it we get some bigger plot reveals and that’s nice. Still enjoying the series 17 volumes in so that’s a win. The cover this time features Hitler...I mean Rouvelier, seriously why did the mangaka give him a Hitler-stache, and Howard Link.

Read 11/5/20 part of a 3-in-1

Allen can't catch a freaking break man.

The first part of this one finishes up the side story with Komui's zombie virus disaster, and Krory finally wakes up for the first time since the Ark. Then things get more interesting, as we learn a big reveal and Allen, Mana, and the Fourteenth Noah.

I liked the slower pace in the second half, and it was emotional returning to Allen's origin story after so long.

This was a very good volume that addressed the aftermath ot the previous event. Yet, even though there were humourous moments scattered throughout the volume it seems to keep the sincere moments the weight that they deserved.
Yet I could tell that it did a good job to show the father son dynamic between Allen and his master as he reveals the existence his brother and what he was responsible for along with a shocking moment that was just devastating to read.

I must say the chapter in between is one of the funniest in the series so far. Fantastic storyline in this one. Of course some serious enlightenment in who Mana is and Allen's past. We also take a look at a few new characters as well.

Ahhhh, I love battle-less volumes. The do so much more with the characters in terms of personal growth that I just love. Sad times await though. What could have happened to Cross? The world may never know.

This volume started off funny. The characters are super hilarious. But it got serious towards the end. A lot was revealed, which answered some questions I had. But the ending was good, I'm curious to see how the rest of the story goes.

The story continues...

I particularly enjoy when the author repeats a page with different dialogue, it is quite amusing. Many lingering questions still

This whole book felt like a filler episode. No progress to story or characters. The artwork is still good, but if I wanted artwork I would buy something I could hang on my wall, not a graphic novel.

If I didn’t already have up to book 24 out from the library, I’d probably just stop here. This series is becoming completely nonsensical and incredibly difficult to follow.
