Starting Out: Attacking Play

In this instructive and entertaining book, James Plaskett, very much renowned for his attacking prowess over the chessboard, presents readers with all the necessary skills and belief to launch successful offensives against unwary opponents. Using illustrative games, Plaskett reveals how to convert all types of advantages, such as a lead in development, a better pawn structure or a safer king, into fully blown attacks.

This book showed various attacking themes based on the games of James Plaskett. I enjoyed the book and I felt like I saw more tactics in my own games after going over this book. However, the chapter on attacking with an isolated pawn did not really emphasize the typical attacking ideas in that pawn structure. And the final chapter featured very strange moves where the games may have some entertainment value, but had little to no instructional value.
