The adventures of Jake and Wiley are expressions of a most heartfelt impulse on the part of author Dave Brown. After many years he has spent among the shades of the Old West, with memories of boyhood heroes such as the Lone Ranger and Tonto, then the fantastic revival of the Western as a movie tradition coming from the unexpected realm of Italian cinema, there was that impulse to indulge via the creation of Brown's Golden Feather series.
This has been an interesting series, but this book seemed to meander to the end. It felt like there should have been another chapter, but the story stopped mid-scene, like Mr. Brown got tired of writing and just sent it off to the printer. He hints at #6 on his web site, hopefully to tie up the multitude of loose ends, but that seems increasingly unlikely.
