A hilarious office romance! Choko Kuze is in love with her ex-servant-now-tyrannical-boss Masayuki Domoto. She's had a hard time getting him to see her as a woman, but between bouts of treating her like a genteel lady and an entry-level office grunt, he's slowly starting to come around. Unfortunately, the CEO's niece has set her sights on Masayuki and won't take no for an answer. Will Choko step aside to protect Masayuki's career, or is it now time for her to pull rank?

I am suffering from a really bad cold or possible flu and I really fancied reading, but I struggled to keep my concentration long enough to read a book. So I decided to continue on with this series because it's a light and saucy read. I am glad that I picked it up because I think this volume is better than the first one. We already know the characters and their feelings, so we are seeing the development of their relationship and the problems that they suffer along the way. I do notice with Josei though, the characters tend to move really fast. Shojo is really slow and Josei is super fast, though with this story it's believable as the characters knew each other when they were younger, so they already have a bond.

I really like Masayuki. I like that he sort of defies the traditional male character in shojo/josei manga of being a border line sexual harasser. I don't mind Choko, but she is very much a stereotype of the shojo/josei genre of being innocent/naive, which makes it hard for me to form an emotional attachment to her.

I have really enjoyed this series so far and I would highly recommend it if you want a saucy, romantic manga read.

Synopsis:

A hilarious office romance! Choko Kuze is in love with her ex-servant-now-tyrannical-boss Masayuki Domoto. She's had a hard time getting him to see her as a woman, but between bouts of treating her like a genteel lady and an entry-level office grunt, he's slowly starting to come around. Unfortunately, the CEO's niece has set her sights on Masayuki and won't take no for an answer. Will Choko step aside to protect Masayuki's career, or is it now time for her to pull rank?

My Thoughts:

Our hero and heroine continue to be quite silly in this volume, but they have some serious moments and sexy moments as well. Ever since Choko ordered Masayuki to be with no woman but her, he's declined every offer he gets from every woman that comes on to him. He soon ends up with an offer that isn't easy to refuse, though he manages to do it. He's actually asked by the president of their company to marry his niece because for whatever reason, the woman wants to marry Masayuki. Choko is sooooo not down with that. She's worried Masayuki will choose the other woman over her. Turns out, Masayuki is actually in love with Choko, though and the two end up becoming a couple.

Even as a couple these two are wacky. When it comes to sex, Choko gets so overwhelmed, she passes out, so it looks like our heroine will be a virgin for a bit longer. I like watching these two, though. Masayuki is so weird sometimes, but I love him anyway and I'm totally rooting for Choko.

A lovely continuation of the rom-con that is their romance. What's quite interesting about the first few books of this series is how serious the hero comes across as. I even spent some time trying to say some of the funny lines he has while maintaining his totally serious expressions. I failed everytime ;) but it was certainly fun to try.

I'm not sure if I just wasn't in the mood for junk food romance manga or if Butterflies, Flowers is really inconsistent, but I seriously don't see any of the things I said I liked in the first volume. The two main characters have next to no chemistry this time around, and if anything their relationship has gone to downright concerning (between the casual sexual harassment at work and the fact that he attempts to force her to have sex on the first date, I'm really worried for Choko's safety). Oh, and Choko's brother is seriously creepy as well, peeking in on his sister dressing TO POLICE HER UNDERWEAR. No wonder she's going for the guy who sexually harasses her...

So, I think I'm going to pass on the rest of the series, at least until I remember why the heck I seemed to like the first volume.

I was seriously giggling, squealing, and kicking my feet through this whole volume! I liked it significantly more than the first volume now that the stage has been set for their romance to bloom. A lot of the jokes really hit home for me and I found the down-to-earth way their romance is developing really enjoyable, it's touching on a lot of things that I didn't expect but really love. UGH. I LOVE THESE TWO.

This was a decent second volume. Things heat up, and Chozo snaps a couple of times, which was pretty entertaining. I still have mixed feelings on Masayuki but am overall enjoying the series. I like the workplace setting. I will read on. 3.5 stars.

Okay. I finished this book. I read one book of manga. Trust me, that was more than enough! Ugh! This is definitely not in my wheelhouse! If not for Book Riot’s read harder challenge, no way would I have ever read a manga book. Done!

Choko can’t help but notice the women that throw themselves at Masayuki – they seem to be coming out of the woodwork, trying to worm their way into his affections in order to date him. Over her dead body! She isn’t trying to eavesdrop, but this is the third one this month alone! As well as the third rejection. She finds an awkward hiding place, but once the girl is given her rejection and goes on her way, Masayuki is quick to ferret Choko out – damaging company property as he does. Which she will have to pay for!

Masayuki is very confusing to Choko, alternating as he does between his strict and perverted managerial personality and his sweet and loving ex-servant persona, Cha-Chan. But one thing she does know – she loves him, very much.

Panic sets in at the company when it is learned that the seldom-seen President has dropped in unannounced – he has a favor to ask of Masayuki. As the employees speculate, in steps the cause of the brouhaha – Makie, the president’s niece, who has requested that he make Masayuki marry her or else! Masayuki himself enters and informs her that the answer is no, which Choko applauds. But Makie is the kind of spoiled rich girl who will not take no for an answer, and quickly drags him off on the pretext of a meeting with her uncle.

Makie is given a position with the company (no, not that one), and now Choko has to see her on a regular basis. The two come head to head in the office kitchen, squaring off, each making declarations of intent. Makie says some very nasty things to Choko and pushes her. Choko picks up the full coffee pot, and flings it at her, only to learn at the last minute that Masayuki has stepped in between them, becoming the recipient instead! What makes it even worse is that he walks off with Makie, referring to her as Milady Makie, breaking Choko’s heart!

The next morning she makes no effort to get up. Why bother? She knows he won’t be coming to pick her up, but there he is, as usual, at 8 o’clock, and he gives her ten seconds to be ready! Then he drives her, not to the office, but to where at one time her family lived. And he tells her about his dreams for her, and what he has done. And why he has been working at Benten Estates. She tells him that if he wants a place to return to, it can be in her heart.

Masayuki approaches Choko’s parents at their soba noodle shop, literally kneeling on the ground outside of it, in order to gain their permission to court their daughter. Of course they agree, but her brother Mikihiko is against it. He’s overruled. Masayuki proposes that they go on a date, and Choko is ecstatic! She brings a dress to the office, and asks Suou’s opinion of it. Masayuki’s crossdressing best friend gives it a thumbs up. Makie notices Choko’s plain underwear and offers to lend her some of her own. Choko replies that it’s just a first date – how naïve she is! Masayuki is thunderstruck when he sees her exit the building, where he waits for her! He takes her to a fancy restaurant, and afterward sees her home. Oh, but she doesn’t want the evening to end so soon, can’t they do something else? How about going to his place? No, no, no. How about a walk? It’s just drizzling a bit. Then the skies open up and they are drenched, so he has no choice but to take her to his place. Now what are they going to do?

The second book continues the story - as clutzy former aristocrat Choko's relationship heats up with boss Domoto - is he so considerate of her because of their family history or is there something stronger behind his motives?

As with most of Yoshihara's works, the fun is in the characters and what happens after the relationship is started. And since this is a josie (women's) and not shoujo (girls) title, there is sex involved though it is gentle (and usually very funny and humorous) rather than raunchy or erotic.

Butterflies, Flowers is a great book for those who want more than the interminable angst of a high school romance. Funny, tender, and silly - but always romantic - are the hallmarks of a Yoshihara manga.

Dekapan orang yang kita cintai adalah tempat membahagiakan untuk kita pulang

Keponakan Pak Direktur selalu mengikuti Masayuki kemana pun.

Gambarnya lucu. Iya. Aku beneran jadi inget Perfect Girl. Ngakak lah. Tapi agak nggak setuju nih, Masayukinya kurang ganteng. Nggak kayak Kyohei gitu. Kalau Kyohei meskipun baru 15 tahun, tapi aura gantengnya kelihatan banget. Kalau Masayuki enggak.

Terlepas dari kurang gantengnya si tokoh, aku suka ceritanya. Ekspresi tokohnya juga lucu. Yang paling bikin ngakak itu, kata-katanya Masayuki yang bisa dibilang mesum abis. Apa deh ini -“-

I wasn't sure I was going to continue reading this series - it's definitely something I have to be in the mood to read. But thanks to the massive sale at my Borders store, I picked up some extra volumes. Without a doubt, it's over-the-top and a bit silly. But in its way, that's kind of its charm. It's bizarre to have a former servant constantly calling his childhood mistress "m'lady" all the time, vowing to protect her chastity and whatnot. But again, it's so silly it's fun and entertaining. Now that some of the side characters are having more of a presence (the brother, the best friend), it's actually become a better (more rounded) story...

I didn't like this volume nearly as much as the first one, but I still chuckled a lot and was entertained. However, Choko took a bit of a step towards being Anastasia.... but mostly only with the fact that when things get hot and heavy between her and Domoto....she faints? *raises eyebrow* That is the dumbest thing ever!

CHOKO!! DON'T DO IT!! Well... actually this series came out waaaay before 50 Shades of Barf, so I suppose Ana would be like Choko.... but still... DON'T DO IT!!!

That's really all I have to say other than.... ♥Suou!!!♥

Eh...I don't know. Things really kind of fell apart for me in this volume. I just felt like the characters' motivations ceased to make any sense whatsoever, and things happened suddenly and without adequate explanation or lead up time. And it ends in a funny (and smutty), but...awkward place. I feel pretty okay about walking away from this series here.

Filling this under 'wtf was I thinking'. Tried again after giving up after the first book before and managed 2 volumes but I do not get any of this (story, characters, etc) at all.

I want to give this more stars because the artwork is ok but I feel overruled by the story pretty much killing any appreciation for this.

More disorganized than volume 1 and more eccentricities tacked on. Still enjoying it and looking forward to more, though.
