Sage Browning’s life had dealt him a horrible hand to play, and it only got worse after he was injured while serving his country. Yet, he played the cards he’d been dealt, but now it was time to invest in himself and in a future with Guardian.
Terrified and alone.
Honor Buchanan had survived the Siege. Barely. Her computer skills were second to none, and she knew Guardian needed her, but the horror of that day lived inside her mind as if it was yesterday. Yet the trauma of the Siege wasn’t her biggest concern. Her past had finally found her, and it would kill her if she didn’t escape.
Strong Together.
Sent to bring Honor back into Guardian’s fold, Sage unknowingly steps into a deadly web wound around Honor’s past mistakes, the violent and evil intent of her pursuers, and the answer to a question that had long haunted Guardian. Making a stand, both Honor and Sage must prove to themselves and others that they are more than what their past labeled them as, and together, they would become unstoppable.
USA Today and Amazon Bestselling Author, Kris Michaels is the alter ego of a happily married wife and mother. She writes romance, usually with characters from military and law enforcement backgrounds.
Kris was born and raised in South Dakota. She graduated many years ago from a high school class consisting of 13 students (yes that is thirteen, eleven girls and two boys...lucky boys). She joined the military, met her husband, and traveled the world. Today she lives on the Gulf Coast and writes full time.
Kris is an avid people watcher and dreamer. The stories she writes are crafted around the hopes and dreams of a true romantic. She believes love is essential, people are beautiful, and everyone deserves a happy ending.
When she isn't writing Kris enjoys a full life revolving around family, friends, laughing, whiskey, and cold red wine. (Yes cold...don't judge.)
A great book. We know Guardian looks after its people and is ruthless for its enemies but what about someone who has just made a mistake?
Sage and Honour are both great characters, so far Sage is just been a supporting character to Smoke, but he has an important story to tell. He is finally in a position to face his physical demons, but his internal ones will need a lot more work. Honour had been damaged by a previous relationship and bent past her breaking point by the Seige. Now she must choose to follow the long road to recovery, or lose herself and everything she has worked for her whole life.
This is not just a great story about these two but the changes to the new Guardian and the new direction and characters coming in. Of course OKs favourites are still there as guides, friends, family and mentors for whatever it takes as long as it takes.
Ever read a book that reaches out and just hits you emotionally? Well I have! In this story Honor has survived an unbelievable attack on Guardian. She disappears because she thinks she knows why it happened. Her way of dealing with it is very self destructive. Jewel reaches out to her and wants to get Honor the help she so desperately needs. Sage has overcome issues from his past and his journey deeply touched my heart. He is sent to bring Honor back into the Guardian family. Because of his past he knows how to help get Honor back. They both face the issues together. This is a powerful story of survival and recovery. I highly recommend this story and must say Kris Michaels surpassed all expectations I had. This author wrote two characters that faced and overcame their past issues which made them stronger. I absolutely loved this!
I'd been looking forward to Sage's story as I always root for the. underdog and we got two for the price of one. This book will run you through a gamut of emotions and you won't want it to end
I’ve been reading this series since it first came out and it fascinates me how everything weaves and fits together or did until the Siege. Since then the books that have come out are building towards the new era of Guardian. This is one. Sage has been injured and has been recovering with the help of Dr Wheeler. His first mission is Honor who has dropped so far that she’s a raging alcoholic. Sage collects her as she’s blacked out in a bar and then has been attacked outside a biker bar. She’s attacked again later in her home as Sage attempts to get her well enough to move. She’s a computer expert and a friend of Jewells. This book goes through her rehab and delves into what happened pre siege and the building of the new Guardian. It’s, as always, well written. I didn’t connect to the characters of Sage and Honor as I usually do to the main characters, mainly I suppose because because of Honor’s issues outside of her drinking. Of course though Sage helps her and the requisite changes occur to the characters as they find their way to an HEA. It’s a good read, complicated by the new Guardian model that I’m sure will come clearer as more books are written. It’s a good read though and not as detailed and long as others in the Guardian world.
Sage Browning isn’t pleased with his first task after a long medical leave, escorting Honor Buchanan, a key employee and friend of Jewell’s, who has turned to the bottle to cope. While having a drink and a meal, Hornor has a sober moment, she realizes how far off track she is and runs into trouble with rogue bikers on the way home. Sage is moments away.
Winning the battle and getting Honor safely home, Sage is appalled by her living conditions and the very sight of Honor, but his instinct is to protect her. Surprisingly, Honor has presence of mind to know she needs her computers when Sage insists they leave, but they’re attacked by Russians before they can.
In Sage’s New Orleans home, Honor starts healing mentally and physically. Talking to Jewell and Sage, Honor apologizes for causing the siege. Unravelling her rambling, Jewell and Sage realize a hacking program of Honor’s had been stolen from her before she started with Guardian and used but she never reported it. Now the thief and Bratva are trying to capture her. Rating: 4.25stars
I borrowed Sage ~ Guardian Defenders ~ Book 7, by Kris Michaels from the Kindle Unlimited Program.
Sage and Honor are both Guardian and both in need of help to heal and become better people to continue with Guardian. When Sage picks up Honor he doesn't expect an attack by the Russian Mafia thugs, not once but twice. Honor is a hot mess with her drinking addiction and scared.
Sage has her back with the kindness he shows, the patience and understanding and comfort he is willing to offer and wait for her to be ready to take it. Between a Cat 2 hurricane, an attack on his new house and taking out the threat and Honor still has to face Guardian with what she did thatstarted part of the attacks and how she worked to stop them.
I love that two broken and brused individuals found strength in each other and that the have the clean start they wanted so badley together. Loved the plot and characters that were so strong yet human and made mistakes too. Sage is another winner by Kris Michaels.
I docked a star because Sage and Honor kept getting injured for stupid reasons. Sage had the highest clearance to protect himself and Honor, yet he used a knife instead of a gun. Why didn't he have a silencer, taser, or even an airsoft gun? They can do some damage and be quiet, especially during a tornado. When he finally did use a gun, he missed. I mean, come on. Where was all the training and experience? He used a gun that had a strong kick instead of something that he could rapid fire with precision. He had an arsenal in his house, so it wasn't like he didn't have options. It made no sense.
Honor got knocked out yet again when she was tripped by the main baddy after he was all tied up. (Apparently Honor never learned to ride a bike because she didn't know how to put her hands up when falling.) Why were the baddies right by them when Sage remodeled the home to be one giant space? Honor also accidentally broke Sage's nose with the shutter.
Other than the dumb injuries, the book was pretty good.

Sage is the seventh book in the Guardian Defenders series by Kris Michaels. With this series, Ms. Michaels delivers a compelling mix of romantic suspense, tactical action, and emotional storytelling. It’s another spin-off from the Kings of Guardian series, and definitely doesn’t disappoint, retaining the same high-energy pacing and interconnected worldbuilding I have come to expect from Ms. Michaels, while also introducing us to new operatives with their own unique missions and personal challenges. Each book can be read as a standalone romance that’s wrapped up in a high-stakes operation - but I would be remiss not to mention that together they form a cohesive web of loyalty, trust, and found family. Once again, Ms. Michaels delivers authentic action sequences grounded in military and covert operations, distinct character voices that make each operative memorable, interconnected relationships that add an extra dynamic to the overall series, and the perfect balance between suspense and romance. Happy Reading…
Sage has had a stuttering issue since a TBI because of an accident while in military. Now he has just been released back to work by Jeremiah. His first assignment he feels is a glorified babysitting job for an employee of Guardian's CCS but disappeared after the Siege. When Honor is found, she is being attacked by a guy at a bar. She realizes she has hit rock bottom because of alcohol and needs help. She thinks she is to blame for the Siege and that's part of why she became an alcoholic. She is then attacked at her apartment and Sage rescues her again. Now they need a place to hide out, so they go to Louisiana to Sage's house that he inherited from his mom and remodeled. Can he keep Honor safe? Who is after her and why? Will she be fired from Guardian or will they let het keep working for them? Sage and Honor are perfect for each other because they understand what the other is going through. I loved this book
Sage Browning was introduced to me earlier on in Smoke's book & I've always wondered what ever happened to him since. I'm so happy he got his own story told, and that he came back to Guardian after taking that personal time away.
When he was sent to bring another Guardian Asset Honor in who was going through & fighting her own demons I got to see such a softer side to Sage who showed so much patience, compassion, & became one of my new favorite Guardians. And Honor was so brave to take the steps needed to better herself which took guts.
This book still had the romance, the action packed scenes & appearances of a few other Guardian Family. And a few revelations on what's happening & the future direction of Guardian too so make sure you take the time to read all Kris's books in the reading order she provides on her website so you don't miss anything!
Sage and Honor are both damaged, dinted and a little broken, and whilst they are fighting very different demons they both want to heal. They are stronger than they think, but both are lonely, even if they don't know it, and the unconditional acceptance and easy understanding they offer each other helps their bond to form fast and strong. They know they are not perfect, they have weaknesses and shadows that they will fight for the rest of their lives, but they also have each other...another person to stand beside them and hold their hand, support them and lend their strength when they feel weak or overwhelmed....they have a future, together. I love all of the Guardian series and whilst they have had to make changes since The Siege, they are also stronger, wiser and more determined than ever to defend and protect the innocent.
I've been waiting for Sage's story since he was introduced in the series...and as always, Kris Michaels delivered.
Sage has dealt with what he learned was a psychological issue that causes him to stutter, and in Honor he sees much of that same need.
Honor, like many of us, is dealing with mistakes in her past that she wished she hadn't made, and couldn't deal effectively with. I hope to hear more of Sage and Honor's story as the series continues and evolves.
Together, they make a perfectly imperfect team that can battle any opponent... even a hurricane.
I highly recommend that these books be read in order to get the most enjoyment, but you could easily read this as by itself. (But if you DO choose to start here, be warned that you will want to go back and read them ALL! Joseph is the first book in any of the Guardian series)
Yay for Sage! He has been a favorite since we first met him and I hoped his stuttering and his family matters would all get a HEA. Honor has Lao been briefly mentioned in other books and now we see the two of them come together. The story is detailed with their struggles and shows the rawness of their emotions and hurdles of self worth. There is also plenty of action and Guardian antics as Sage protects Honor from some bad people in her past. More details are shared about the Siege and how Guardian is rebuilding. Loved the time spent with Jewell, Zane, Smoke and the Kings. The introduction of Sage’s childhood friends and second family were enlightening and a great bonus to the story. Loved seeing the updates of the teams and locations. This is a great series that is always fast paced and evolving.
This story was so much more than I expected, but I should’ve known Kris wouldn’t let us down🥰 Sage is in Hollister working on his stuttering with Dr Jeremiah Wheeler, when he’s finally released and given a small job to whet his whistle. The job is to pick up Honor, the previous nighttime supervisor from before the Siege….she’s apparently developed an alcohol addiction and is drowning😢
Sage and Honor are fabulous together and both characters encompass issues that are very real and show a warriors strength in fighting for their survival❣️I did not want to leave their world but I’m excited to see the direction Guardian takes next…and that includes the small intro into Bear….I’m very excited for his story next🤩
Sage is yet another amazing book by Kris Michaels in her Guardian series, this one part of the Guardian Defenders.
Sage Browning had a rough life and is recovering from injuries incurred while serving his country. Fortunately for him, Guardian knows a good man who still has some fight left, snaps him up and help him heal. After managing to survive “The Siege”, Honor Buchanan, a computer whiz for Guardian, is living in Dallas; well, more liking hiding in the bottom of a bottle. Not only is she living with the dealing with horror of what happened, but she has a secret from her past she is trying to hide from as well.
Guardian sends Sage to bring Honor back. But we all know that this IS Kris Michaels book about Guardian, so it definitely going to have some twists, some turns, guns, explosions, romance and a little snark in there somewhere. It’s what makes it fun!! It’s an amazing book, I adore it and Kris Michaels who is an absolute gem!!!
Outstanding book you will not regret reading this one
Sage who we briefly met in Smoke now gets his story as well as Honor. Honor has secrets that are slowly destroying her life, as a result of something she did and then hid from her supervisor Jewel King. However Jewel realizes when Honor calls she’s in trouble and Sage has just finished with Dr Wheeler and needs something to do. Kris has written a book that touches on many issues, alcoholism, sobriety, trust, love and faith in people. You will want to read this book to see someone find redemption as well as finding out why Guardian and the people in charge are so successful in taking care of those who work for them once they have the whole story.
I’ve loved Sage in the last few books and he finally gets his story and a good one it is. Sage is a good ole Louisiana boy and we get a taste of Louisiana and even a hurricane only a Cat two so nothing to worry about there. Honor is one of Jewel’s CCS personnel and has been in hiding in Dallas Texas since the Siege and has developed a bad drinking problem. Sage has just been cleared by Doc Wheeler to begin working again. His stutter is gone unless he’s stressed. His first job is to pick up Honor and get her somewhere safe. She has more than a drinking problem though when her past catches up with her. Sage takes her to lis Louisiana home to dry out and hide out. This one has lots of bad guys, a nasty ex, guilt, hope for redemption, steam and love.
I've waited for ages to hear Matt's dulcet tones and to get some answers and where guardian was going. holy cow, I wasn't disappointed. Kris michaels, you are brilliant. there was new territory to soak up, a new alpha, some old characters involved, and so many answers along with whole new adventures and characters. This was a love that bloomed from out of the blue and geared me up to eagerly await more stories. all the new information from kris was mindboggling, and I'm amazed at her knowledge. I just loved getting answers, new starts, adventure, love, and your exciting mind all rolled into a fantastic book. Matt's narration was awesome as always, and I'm so looking for more
I expected this book to be good because it was written by Kris Michaels… I was wrong, it’s great. Sage is finally given the all clear to return to work. Unfortunately his first mission is a babysitting job… or so he thinks. After all this is Guardian and nothing is ever what it seems. This book is exciting, fast paced and riveting. I love finding out what’s new with the Guardian restructure after the Seige, catching up with the King family is amazing and the cherry on top of this wonderful cake is Sage and Honor’s story. This book is wonderful and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I can’t wait to read Bear’s story next.
No plot spoilers No potential triggers There are a couple of errors but nothing to get irritated about. There is a little swearing and there are a few sex scenes lightly written. The characterisation is absolutely perfect, as ever from Ms Michaels, and the plotline is engaging and ensures you keep turning the pages. I have wanted Sage's story for what feels like years, and I have no problem stating the book is every thing I hoped for. Most definitely one to be read again and again. I have no problem recommending the series but would advise reading from the beginning to obtain the best reading experience.
Honor did the unthinkable, or did she, hitting rock bottom in a bottle of vodka Jewel found her, in trouble and sending Sage to rescue her just in time, working with Jewel, Zane and Sage and her computers to get to the answers she needs, she wasn't responsible for the attacks, riveting suspense keeps you on the edge of your seat just waiting to hear if Honor can keep her job or be fired, love blooms while they wait, surviving a hurricane and hitmen wanting her and her computers, , sometimes we are just waiting for the right moment, the right person, the right everything, and it happens, Kris Michaels this was so much more, thank you, Dana Zamora
Honor was drunk all the time, her life was a wreck. Along came Sage to protect her and get her sober enough to decide what she was going to do with herself. Guardian judged her for something she did in her past, and she felt she would have to find something else to do. Sage found out what she had done but then found out her life was in danger. Then along comes a Hurricane Category 2 and Honor is frightened of storms. They survive the Hurricane, the attack by the baddies and even get through the meeting with guardian about Honors past. They get engaged and have movie nights.
4.5 stars. Honor and Sage make a good couple but it took awhile for me to see it and feel connected to them as a couple. I think a lot of it is because I like strong female MC’s and Honor is insecure and an alcoholic trying to escape the fact that she did something horribly wrong to Guardian, leading to many deaths. I’m not a fan with MC’s struggling, trying to get back on their feet. Other than this personal preference, this book is good. There’s a couple of good action sprinkled in and the best part is that we get to hear what Guardian has planned for their future and how they want to structure their organization.
Kris Michaels made my heart soar revealing what I hope will be many more books to come. I wait impatiently for every book she writes and this one was so amazing. The glimpse of where Guardian is headed is exciting. Her writing ability to make you feel like you are experiencing everything her characters do slay me. Not to mention her ability to weave such intricate details throughout each book continually linking and expanding the Guardian story. Never a disappointing page.
Wow! Another FANTASTIC story by Kris! This one involves Honor and Sage. So happy that Sage was able to work through his major issues. Honor was a total mess. The guy she was with was a total tool. I am with Honor on the thunderstorm issue. It was so good to see that Jewell had a major part in this book. What Honor goes through will put your heart in your throat but be happy for her towards the end of the story. FANTASTIC job Kris! I would highly recommend this book! Can't wait for the next book!
Sage was in several books previously but took a leave to care for his mother. When she died he came back to Guardian. They worked with him to alleviate his stutter as well as counseling. Honor had worked for Jewell but had gone off the deep end after the attack on the Guardian facility. Sage was given the job of bringing her back into the fold. They made a great couple and both had been dealing with enough issues and pain that they could recognize each others worth.
Kris Michaels is a fabulously talented woman! I have read and reread and reread again all the books in this series!! Everyone is a true work of art! I have gone so many places with these characters without ever leaving my house! Whenever I start one of her novels, I really hate stopping to go to work, fix dinner or go out somewhere! Lol! You can't go wrong reading anything Ms. Michaels writes! Thank you and for the Love of all things Holy, keep them coming!
Sage is a great read that I thoroughly recommend. I loved the main characters and how Honors' problems are portrayed, Sage is an amazing guy. It was great to hear his story. Kris is amazing at bringing her characters to life, ensuring that you are fully engaged with them from start to finish. This is part of Kris Michael's Guardian defenders series and could be read as a stand alone, I would say, however, if you have read the previous books however it would enhance the experience. All Kris's books are excellent and well worth reading.
Hurricanes, Nutcrackers, and Reflections in the Mirror
Sage Browning--we've seen bits and pieces of his story mentioned in several books. I was worried that Sage wouldn't be able to recover from his injuries and challenges. Fortunately, author Kris Michaels had a masterful plan. Sage and Honor's story is amazing. Each of them had to conquer their challenges and at least begin the healing process. HEA as always, but after a roller coaster of a ride. Highly recommend.
