Whatever Happened to Everything

Rate this book
This sweet holiday happily-ever-after is a quick, witty read full of winter fun and bantering romance.
A feel-good festive romcom featuring an extroverted event coordinator and a wry novelist who must work together arranging a surprise pop-the-question Christmas Eve party for their best friends.

Emmie Andrews is a successful corporate convention planner, whose dream is doing elaborate, fun weddings – but it’s just too risky to leave her solid career. While home for the holidays in North Haven, Vermont, Emmie’s asked to plan a surprise proposal party for her childhood best friend. Emmie’s bursting with splashy, romantic ideas (a Christmas tree covered in wedding bells? a gingerbread house with the engagement ring inside?). The catch: she has to work alongside the groom-to-be’s buddy – bookish Archer Mendez, who believes low-key, spontaneous moments are more special than Emmie’s elaborate plans. This just got more difficult.

But Emmie and Archer get to work, both of them extremely invested in pleasing their best friends – even if they don’t agree on how to do that. This is Emmie’s chance to let her inner wedding planner out while Archer prefers going with the flow as he tries to finish his novel that’s due. As they experience all of North Haven’s romantic winter party fun - from snow ice cream to holiday charades – Emmie and Archer discover that love happens, whether you plan for it or not.
A small-town Christmas love story sure to make you laugh out loud and inspire holiday joy.

Loved this light Christmas novella!
I don’t usually read them in June, but I was in the mood 😅

Emmie & Archer are total opposites - she’s a planner, through and through, and he’s more a spontaneous kinda guy. Working together to plan a proposal party for their best friends, they learn to be a little more like one another.

This was a quick and easy read! I loved all the teasing & the corny dad jokes.

If a Hallmark movie & a witty romcom had a baby that would be a Poppy Carter book.

Her books are sweet, hilarious (like laugh-out-loud, snort it’s so funny kind of hilarious), and give you a quick shot of much-needed serotonin. Each book is a short novella so you get the satisfaction of a love story in one sitting.

Whatever Happened to Everything is a forced-proximity, enemies-to-lovers when two strangers team up to help their best friends get engaged. Set in a small town in Vermont, during Christmas, the book is full of Christmas cheer, witty banter, and an undeniable chemistry between the main characters.

This book has a happy ending, of course, and there is more coming in this series, which I cannot wait to read.

I cannot recommend this book enough - especially if you are looking for a quick read with feel-good vibes and a happy ending!

I was given a copy of this book, the opinions in this review are my own.

I read Christmas-related books year round and I enjoyed this book a lot! I love Emmie's drive, determination and grit for those she cares for and in the things she's passionate about. Honestly, she reminds me a lot of myself.

This is a light-hearted, fun read that is guaranteed to suck you in within the first few pages.

romcom novella

Described as a short romcom, this story delivers! It’s set over Christmastime, so it has a holiday Hallmark-ish feel to it.

Perfect Christmas Novella

Emmie is a corporate events planner but secretly dreams of planning more meaningful events like weddings and family parties.
When she gets to go home for Christmas and is asked to help plan a proposal party for her best friend she signs right up... The only catch? She has to plan it with Archer.
Archer is an award winning novelist who lost his Christmas spirit after a tragic event in his past.

Will Archer and Emmie be able to work together to make all these Christmas plans come true? Can they learn to balance spontaneousness and planning in order to make Christmas cheer?

This book was a perfect pick me up book. Great little book full of Christmas cheer, cute and punny conversations, and some very loveable characters.

The writing: I loved that even though this is a novella Poopy Carter was able to write in enough backstory to flesh out the characters and have you get all the feels for them. I just wanted to give Archer a hug, and Emmy a confidence boost to go for her dreams. I seriously loved the opposites attract trope here and it was fantastically done.

Romance: there are about 2 kisses in this book. It's a very sweet and clean romance

Potential triggers: loss of a loved one very briefly mentioned & workaholic tendencies for a character
