Jewel has one final wish - for the 5 foster daughters that she formed the closest bond to come home for a visit - and meet each other. In her heart, she knows they will need each other in the near future. The book is constructed as a series of letters Jewel sent to each child over their adult years, after they left her care and ventured out on their own. She stays involved, as a true mother would, in the tribulations and triumphs of their lives. Her wish is for them to be true Sisters of The Heart.

For the biblio-smellia prompt-i went with my favorite scent, lavender.

A foster mother writes journal entries and letters to her five foster girls. Actually, it was very touching as it was such a short novella.

I am so excited! Tammy L. Grace is writing a new series. The first book is titled Greetings From Lavender Valley. I read it in one sitting. It is so good and I love the premise of the series. We have not had a new series by Tammy in a while so I am anxious to dive in. She has been part of other series written by multiple authors and I loved those but, this one is just her writing.

It is about a woman named Jewel who finds out she is unable to have children of her own. She and her husband live on a farm near a small town and decide to foster children. They have five long term girls who each have lived with them for at least five years. To Jewel, these are her children.

We get to know them through letters she has written to them each over the years after they have graduated high school and moved on to college. We find out what they do with their lives and how they have managed their adult lives. We learn this at the beginning through the letters and the books go on to concentrate on each girl.

This sounds like such a lovely series. I was never one that read series for long without dropping them after a while. I have found that the series by multiple authors has kept my interest and I think this one will too as we get to know each girl. I love the books and stories that I've read of Tammy's and I don't think this one will be any different. I can't wait to sink my teeth into these books. This book releases April 5th and Pathway to Lavender Valley will release on May 3rd. The first 3 books are up for pre-order. Until next time…Happy Reading!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

2.5 stars (Kindle). Written as letters to former foster care kids, it felt very one sided + hard to connect with the narrator or the letter recipients. I wonder if the rest of the series follows the same format, but I'm not curious enough to investigate further. A "stuff your Kindle" purchase.

I really enjoyed the way the author introduces this new series through journal entries and personal letters in Greetings from Lavender Valley. It felt like such a personal “peek” into the thoughts and lives of the characters.

The series takes place on a farm in Oregon where Jewel and Chuck Austin foster dozens of children (and numerous rescue dogs) over nearly 40 years. They provide the needed love and support for each of their charges but form a special bond with five young women who spend their teenage years with them. Jewel continues to write letters to the women long after they leave her home.

If the prequel is any indication (and I think it is), the series will be a heartwarming and inspirational look at foster families and others who courageously open their hearts and homes to those in need. I look forward to reading the rest of the series and finding out what happens to each of these characters!

An interesting beginning to a new series. The book is made up from dairy entries a lady name Jewel writes. Jewel and her husband Chuck, live on a farm where the rescue dogs. The couple has served as foster parents to a variety of children, who are put into the foster system for a variety of reasons. The entries cover a passage of time as Jewel’s life changes. The journal entries hint at snippets of time in lives of the foster children. It seems each girl fit into the farm, with a wide variety of interests.

Thank you to the author for this ARC. This review is my honest opinion.

Read my full review on Rosepoint Publishing.

Not my first experience with the author as I’ve read offerings in a couple other series, the most recent being Welcome Aboard, a collaboration.

This short and sweet offering is actually a prequel to the Sisters of the Heart series and through a series of letters to several of her foster children, introduces those who came early and stayed through aging out.

The setting is rustic, rural farm country in Oregon where Jewel and her husband Chuck took in dozens of foster children.

Each of the letters introduces us to that special someone she continued to follow. She wishes for a grand reunion in which each now adult discovers the sisterhood in the home that became their shared sanctuary.

It’s an interesting concept, the letters, though I assume would not be everyone’s cup of tea.

Still, the letter whets the interest in what the girls might have achieved, the reunion, and how they could all relate to each other—and to their foster mom. This may very well be something of interest to you and worth checking out. Enjoy unusual domestic fiction? Uncommon concepts of family?

Many thanks to our local library for providing me with the opportunity to read and review this book. The thoughts expressed here are my own.

Greetings from Lavender Valley by Tammy L Grace is the first book in the new Sisters of the Heart series. Jewel Austin has been a foster mother to dozens of children; but five girls hold an extra special place in her heart. Through the years, she kept in touch with these girls as they grew into women and found their place in the world. Now in her eighties, Jewel knows her time is short and she has an unusual request. Her last wish is for them to return to the Lavender Valley Farm and find the sanctuary they once had there. Jewel has a feeling these women will need each other as they navigate life’s difficulties and the loss of the only parental figure they have known.
Told through Jewel’s letters and journal entries, readers learn about the five little girls who grew into women under her care. From different circumstances and hurts, they came to Jewel’s farm and found a mother’s love. While it was not the story I was expecting; however, it was Jewel’s unconditional love and devotion to these women through their lives as they came to her home, stayed and then went out into the world, that pulled me in. I am looking forward to reading the rest of their series and seeing how these five women respond to Jewel’s final request. I recommend Greetings from Lavender Valley.

Greetings from Lavender Valley is available in paperback and eBook

This is a great start to a new series and one you will enjoy. Jewel and Chuck can't have children so they decide to open their home to foster teens. This book is devoted to the 5 girls who meant the most to them. Jewel and Chuck run a farm and not only do they foster kids but they also foster animals. Georgia is the first of the foster kids and she is a big help around the farm but she is very talented and artistic. Olivia grows up to become and nurse. Harry finds her passion in being a Police Officer and rises thru the ranks. Lydia finds her passion in food and eventually becomes a well knwn chef. Finally, Micki, the last foster kids, helps in so many ways. She loves plants and computers, and helps Jewel and Chuck branch out on the farm. In this book we learn about Jewel and Chucks life and the lives of each of these 5 women thru Jewels journal and letters. This is a well written book and you grow to love the characters.

A Fantastic Book

Written in journal style, Jewel, a foster mom with her husband Chuck, pens her first impressions, observations, pride in each individual young girl and the wonderment and concerns she has for them as they experience life as career women , wives and mothers. There is the heart that is displayed by Jewel and revealed by her foster girls that touch the reader. It is a reminder to take things as they come, be brave and let events unfold and be grateful for all the blessings that came their way and yours.
Any age can read this, but for teens with older hearts and women the emotional depth and intuitive parenting displayed without any false display of drama is like sitting across from the kitchen table over the span of many decades and hearing updates from a genuine, loving friend over a cup of coffee and toast smothered with Marionberry jam. It's a short read but highly recommended.

Jewel and her husband have taken in 55 foster children and multiple dogs and other animals over the years in her rescue. Some of the children have been there for only weeks or months, but 5 girls lived with them long term. Some of the dogs were Jewel's pet and friends of the lonely and scared girls.

This book is composed of touching journal entries and letters to the girls. I was brought to tears multiple times as I read this book, describing the love and triumphs, and sorrow, difficulties, and deaths that Jewel and her girls experienced over the years.

The technique of telling the stories in this manner was very clever and successful. I look forward to reading about each of the women that those girls grew to be.

I received an advance reader copy of this book. This is my honest review.

A different kind of story

This story is in the form of a journal, for one foster child at a time, as a childless couple named Jewel and Chuck, lovingly open their farm to a total of fifty five teenage girls. Most stayed with them for a short term, but five, in particular, stayed for years. Each girl was given safety when removed from their biological families. Many had been abused. Each girl began to develop strong leanings in a certain direction. Each one grew up and flourished in her own way. The journals are so poignant. I found them to be rich with Jewel's memories and her warmth, but also sad as she repeatedly invited each grown up girl to visit again. The years passed, enriched by the contribution each girl left. This ia lovely story, with a difference, leading on to follow up books which I look forward to reading, as their legacy grows.

This is a stunning introduction to a new series by Tammy L. Grace, which I admit to downloading immediately after reading.
The book shares journal entries from a wonderful woman, Jewel, a foster mum with her husband, Clive.
Through her years of being there for different children, she also, alongside Clive, ran a dog and animal sanctuary, as well as a Lavender farm.
We are given a glimpse into her experiences with five specific young wards who stayed with them throughout a couple of decades, and we also learn a little about their lives after they leave the safety of Jewel's care.
This lays a brilliant base for the journey the rest of the series will take us on as the five women come together, never having met one another as their times with Jewel never crossed.
I can't wait to get into this series!

This is the first book in the Sister of the Heart series by Tammy L. Grace. Jewel Austin and her husband Chuck were childless until they decide to become foster parents to dozens of girls. Jewel and Chuck form a special bond with five foster girls raising them and watching the grow into beautiful young women. Each girl came from abusive homes. Jewel kept in touch with each girl writing letters to them and keeping a journal. Jewel is now in her eighties and makes a special request to have the five girls return one last time to Lavender Valley Farm. Each woman is grappling with personal struggles, and Jewel knows they’ll need each other now more than ever. The story unfolds through Jewel’s letters and the women’s journeys, as they confront grief, rediscover connection, and form a sisterhood from the heart. I really enjoyed this uplifting women’s fiction novel.

Greetings from Lavender Valley
First book in the sisters of the heart series.
Greetings from Lavender Valley is the first book in a new series by Tammy Grace, sisters of the heart. It is the book about a wonderful couple who has taken foster children, five of those girls live with them until college, and have a lifelong relationship with Jewel and Chuck . This book is a series of letters that Jewel has written to each of the girls during her lifetime. I can’t tell you how many times reading this book and yet my heart was filled with hope for these girls, and this couple that found space in their heart to give them the understanding, love and help that they needed. I can’t wait for the next book about Harry pathway to lavender Valley.

Tammy Grace writes with heart and soul in this introduction to what promises to be a superb series.
Jewel’s diary entries for, and letters to, each of her five long-term foster daughters demonstrate her love for them, and her ability to identify and develop their interests from the time they arrive to the end of her life.
The thought-provoking manner in which the author blends the highlights of the girls’ teenage and adult lives, the ‘therapy’ Jewel’s dogs provided, and the snippets of news about Jewel and Chuck’s farm-life make this an eminently readable book.
I received a free copy via BookFunnel and this is my honest opinion.

No matter what series Tammy L. Grace is writing, you can always depend that it will be great. In her newest Sisters of the Heart series, ‘Greetings from Lavender Valley’ introduces us to Jewel and her husband Chuck. Unable to gave children of their own, they become foster parents and this book centers around only a few of the children they took into their home and lives. Along with dogs, flowers, and other animals on their farm, they make such a positive impact on the lives of these children. Tammy’s characters are always so believable and unforgettable, no matter who she is writing about. Make sure you get into this new series of hers!

A sweet story of a couple who took in 55 foster children during their marriage. In particular there were 5 special girls to Jewel, the mother. By writing in her journal and letters to each of the girls, Jewel gives us a glimpse into the five girls lives during and after they leave the farm. I’m looking forward to reading all the books in this series of each girl that became so special to Jewel. I immensely enjoyed this book, although I sensed a loneliness in Jewel when she wrote her letters to the girls, that they did not write back to Jewel very often and rarely, if ever, returned to Lavender Valley and the farm which brought tears to my eyes. I received this book from the author. It is a 5 star and my review is my honest opinion and voluntary.

Sweet

Thirty-three and childless, Jewel and her husband decide to take in foster children. This book is kind of an old-fashioned epistolary novel, mostly entries in Jewel's journal, although some seem to be letters written to five of the foster daughters she was particularly close to over the years, those who stayed with her the longest. It seems to be sort of a prequel to novels about the individual women they became. I'll be interested to read those as they become available. I did find it interesting that none of these girls ever seemed to give Jewel any kind of trouble, however. Not my experience with friends who took in foster children at corresponding ages.

This is a very sweet book, told through letters and diary entries of a foster mother to and about the five girls that, it seems, she had the longest. It is very sweet, and paints a lovely picture of a gentle woman who loved animals and children. It's a good "beach" read, which to me means that it's a read that you won't have to put much thought into and probably shouldn't. Having dealt with teenaged girls myself, and rescue dogs, and even gardening, I know that very little of any of those things is as easy or as smooth as Grace paints them. However, if you are willing to suspend your disbelief, this is the nicest piece of heaven this side of Oz.

Fostering

Love the way Jewel had such compassion for the children that she and her husband took into their home, and always found what each
young woman was meant to do.I just would liked to have known if some of them ever went to visit her?? She seemed to be lonely, and as I kept reading I was hoping there would be one of the women that just wanted to spend time with an elderly woman that had helped them through hard times,on the other hand I need to read on Book 2 will maybe answer some questions I have.

3.5*/5*

I won this Novella in a giveaway and was pleasantly surprised by it. I really didn't know what to expect because it was such a short book, but I loved reading the letters to each girl throughout the years. It was a very quick read and I do want to know more about the girls' perspectives on things.

My only complaint about this book is that it's so short. I know all the other books are available on Kindle, but I think having them all or in maybe 2 or 3 slightly longer books would have been great. While I did enjoy this and would like to know what happens when the girls find out about Jewel's passing and if they find their way to each other, I have a lot of books I would like to read and don't know if fitting in 6 other novellas would be at the top of my list.

Overall, if you're up for a novella series totally give this a try! Maybe one day I'll find myself reading the rest of the series :)

Welcome to Lavender Valley

This is wonderful story about a lady named Jewel who longed to bear her own children. It wasn't in her cards to bear her own. She decides to foster several girls throughout her life. You get to know the children as she introduces them in the story. Jewel not only had a love for fostering children, she had a love for rescuing dogs. Tammy Grace gets you excited for what she has to offer in her next five books in the series. I enjoyed this book and can't wait to read the others. I would highly recommend it to anyone.
