Devin Piers Nilsson is a cold-blooded killer. Ewyn Kelley Calderone is a mob brat. Both work for the government, at the same agency, yet they have never met. One fateful night, Ewyn walks into the Silver Fox Bar and Grille, a regular haunt of Devin's, and Devin takes a risk to save him from an abusive lover. The attraction flares, instantaneous, and Devin takes yet another risk and makes Ewyn his own.

But Ewyn has secrets. Dangerous secrets that create a conflict of interest for Devin, test his loyalty to Devin, and perpetuate murder. When Devin chooses to ignore the danger, their mutual attraction quickly turns to love. Then Ewyn's world explodes around them, becoming deadly at every turn. People are dying, people close to Ewyn, and Ewyn is the prime suspect.

Devin thinks the perpetrator is eliminating all traces to himself, in preparation of one fatal strike at Ewyn. And what Ewyn knows, Ewyn won't tell. Despite Ewyn's lack of faith in him, Devin races against time to find the killer, before Ewyn becomes the next victim.

Reading this book I can clearly say that the author is a woman: the characters are too good and too sexy to be written by a man, it's through a woman's eye that we see them.

Devin is a secret agent. Not from FBI or CIA, but of a private Agency which works side by side with the "official" agencies. He is just out of a relationship, one that is not finished well, and he goes to his preferred hung point to or kill or fuck someone, one or the other is the same. When he sees Ewyn, he chooses for the sex. While Devin is a big and strong man, Ewyn is the pretty and cute type. Of Sweden ancestors, Devin is blonde and blue eyes, while Ewyn, of Italian origins, has dark hair and green eyes. They make a good pair, since the first night, but Ewyn has a problem: his former lover is an abusive man, and a Russian mafia leader, and hasn't taken well Ewyn abandon. Plus Ewyn is the hidden brother of a Italian mob padrino. But Devin has no trouble to make him Ewyn's problems: he makes a mission to spoil Ewyn (who is just a brat due to his family) and to free him from all the dangers around him. But when Ewyn's ex-lover is found dead, and the blade which killed him has Ewyn's prints on it...

The story is pretty simple, probably you will have no problem to find the guilty, but it's not for the suspence aspect that I have read this book, pretty long, in only two night: it's the interaction between Devin and Ewyn that makes the core of the story. Devin is the classical alpha male, but one of that alpha male who makes you smile: fully self-consciousness, he never doubts of him and of his love for Ewyn. He never does anything wrong. He is the perfect man, one the female in me wants to find. Pity he is totally gay and he is totally caught by Ewyn.

Ewyn is the classical cute and feisty bottom. He is the iperactive puppy genre, the one who never stays where you put him. The one who needs a saint to support him, but also the one you can't not love, cause he is too pretty.

This is why I say that I feel the woman's hand in this book: these two "classical" characters are the main reason, I believe, why M/M romance are so popular among women. I don't know if they are a truthful representation of gay men, but for sure I like this characterization.

Another reason why I like very much Memories Erased (why this title? sincerely I don't find in the book the answer...) is the writing style: it's very strange, the first pages have left me a bit perplexed, they are a brainstorming of Devin's mind, without continuity. But once you have the hand on it, this style makes the book fresh and fast, very simple to read and makes you want to finish it soon.

Memories Erased is a well written and plotted gay contemporary romance that I thoroughly enjoyed. It’s a tale of love, romance and a little mystery as Devin and his assorted friends and associates try to keep his new lover alive. The plot is filled with all the things that make for an enjoyable read…intense attraction, great passion, hot sex, danger, intrigue, a couple of obnoxious ex-lovers and an bad guy bent on killing one of our two main characters. Add in plenty of well rounded secondary characters in the form of friends and family to give the plot life and depth, and voila…a great keeper story.

While Devin’s sweet and caring attitude toward Ewyn might seem diametrically opposed to his day job of assassin, the plot didn’t really dwell on this part of his life, just mentioned it from time to time without any real details, since that wasn’t what this story was about. No, this book was about the love and attraction of two men from different walks of life and different cultures…one with a family and one without. Still these two have no difficulties in bridging the gaps to form a unbreakable bond, and there is little doubt that both would kill to protect the other. The action scenes interspersed through the story are well crafted, without being over done. I eagerly await the next release from this talented author.

Terrible writing. No depth. Insta-love for both main characters.

With language like...
"the man had it going on"
"they were both all that"
"slammin' physique"
"baby-boy"
This was almost painful to read. Talk about trying too hard.

It's interesting, I guess. Some of it is really melodramatic and overwrought.

Ewyn is a crime family baby. The son of the head of an Italian mobster; his family decided from a very young age he wouldn't grow up in the mafia world. Going as far as to change his last name and making the outside world think he was an orphaned distant relative. Wanting his independence and to prove he wasn’t a baby, he moved out of the family home and became involved in an abusive relationship with a member of the Russian mafia.

Devin, on the other hand, works for the Government in an unofficial, hidden department as an assassin. Devin is loyal to a fault. Proven by the fact that even when things weren't going well between him and his ex he never once questioned his commitment to the relationship - you reading this Tor?! - and had eyes for no one else. Not even Ewyn who had been working in the same place as him for two years and who turned out to be his soulmate. Cold-blooded on the job, it really hits home how compassionate and protective he is with Ewyn.

They meet at a bar one night where Devin normally goes to hang out with its owner, who’s a friend of his. Especially after his boyfriend Allister took off one night with all of his belongings and abandoned him. I liked Devin even here, since even after breaking up with his ex he hadn't been willing to find some faceless hook-up. Then Ewyn walks in with his boyfriend and Devin can’t take his eyes off him. When Ewyn and his boyfriend have an argument and the Russian leaves, Devin walks into the bathroom and finds Ewyn crying and sparks fly between them.

They fall for each other really fast but not once did I doubt their relationship. Their pasts didn’t matter, their families didn’t matter and the problems they would face didn’t matter. They strove to be honest with other always and they are one of the most loving couples I’ve read about. It's like ripping a sheet of paper down the middle and then fitting it back together. They were perfect for each other.

The only time I really had to suspend my disbelief was when it turned out that a lot of Ewyn’s family had known that his ex was beating on him and hadn’t done anything to intervene because they were too worried about Ewyn’s link to the Calderone’s being discovered. I would have thought the pros outweighed the cons, especially considering he was the loved, overprotected, spoiled baby of the family.

I really enjoyed the mystery too. When somebody started trying to kill Ewyn, it was interesting reading about all the possibilities since there were so many people with something to gain from hurting him.

I loved the secondary characters. Ewyn’s family was great. His older brother Greg, had become the head of the family when their father died and their very close relationship became strained when Ewyn came out, but he was a great older brother and ruthless when it came to protecting the people he loved. My favourites where Mick, Devin’s friend and owner of the bar who is also ex-FBI and his partner – the Shemar Moore lookalike - Tag. I’d love to read about how they got together. All I can say is that I loved, loved, LOVED this book! I respected and rooted for both characters and the story was great. I definitely wouldn't turn my nose up at a sequel to Dev and Ewyn's story!

Can I just start with... if I never hear "baby-boy" again it won't hurt my feelings! *snort* LOL! There were several words or phrases that were used to the extreme in this story... and yes it was annoying from time to time... I liked when Devlin called Ewyn "baby-boy", but not so much when he thought it! *headdesk* Now, to the story itself... I liked it! I thought the writing was OK and I really found myself jumping around trying to figure out "who did it" only to conclude and find out that it was actually the first person I suspected... which in its own why made the story work for me! I foud that all of the characters played off of each other and added depth to the storyline! Ewyn's family, (I loved his mom) and Devlin's friends all circled the wagon's (as it were) to protect Ewyn... who, strangely enough, was my least favorite character. I liked that he was pulling himself up after a horrendous relationship... but he was so wishy-washy... grrr! It was like he had this goal to be an adult, but he never quite got there. I mean really... how hard would it be to just go out and buy a car? But, even though there were a few parts that I just shook my head at, there were a lot more that had me grinning or growling... whichever was the appropriate response! And I really liked the last chapter, which had absolutely nothing to do with the MCs... how weird it that? :P

I loved this story....have been waiting for a sequel for a while now. The characters just jump off the page, loved how controlling Devin but, at the same time loving, understanding and protective. Now Ewyn was just lovable. He had a strong silent side to him, he allowed himself to be taken care of because he realized its made Devin happy and at the same time it also pleased him. The secondary characters added extra flavor to the story, love the mafia boss and the other special agents. The Calderone family seems just like any other loving family, and who knew there were so many gay special agents, lol. Can't tell you enough how much I loved this book. The abuse storyline was a little watered down, but the mystery was exactly what I loved. Kept me guessing till the end on who was looking out for Ewyn.

A bit too much alpha male for me, I'm afraid. I don't mind a take charge guy, but Devin was just too much.

DNF. Way too many ellipses. Did this have an editor at all?
