The third book in a now complete series.Thirty-five years after the world ended, a lonely man picks his way across the ashes of America on a final mission.
Reuben Bane spent decades believing he was a force for good, preserving humanity's gene pool by hunting and eliminating deviants.
Now, he seeks redemption for his evil deeds, and revenge on the cultish Foundation. He must travel across a broken country to find a woman from the past who holds the key to the future.
Over the Edge is the third book in a new series by Kevin Partner, veteran of the post apocalyptic science fiction genre. Set among the ashes of a destroyed world, the series brings to life a possible future world teetering on the brink between endless darkness and an uncertain future.
I write post apocalyptic science fiction both on my own account and with Mike Kraus, as well as space opera and fantasy. And one or two other bits and bobs.
Based in the south of England, I've been writing since my teens, alternating between funny and serious. In the mid 1990s, I became a regular columnist for PC Pro magazine and have written a number of business and craft books over the years.
Fiction is my first love, however - I hope you enjoy my voyages into an uncertain future.
Non stop action, which I do really like in a book! Great characters, motivations and some really unusual ideas. Once I start reading the books in this series, they are very hard to put down, and the end always comes too soon. The author has produced a future world which is quite believable, in a ‘I’m very glad I don’t live there’ way. It is easy to follow the story as it switches between characters, and I am really looking forward to the rest of the series! It is part of a series, and you do need to read them in order.
Ruben’s identity is revealed by an old friend. I’ve come to realize there are three types of book/eBook series; those that I read the first installment and realize it’s not for me, those that I read the first book and want to read the others but don’t make them a priority, and the last group are those where I read the first book, subscribe to the author’s email list and anxiously await each new installment. The Future Falls series fits right into that third category for me, and Over the Edge, the third installment was well worth the wait. Not only was this an action-packed story, but it also had plenty of intrigue and answered a question I’ve been trying to answer from the first book. If you are like me, you have been guessing Ruben’s identity from the start of the series, I was certain I knew the answer until reading Over the Edge, and now I can say I certainly was wrong about his identity. If you want to know who he was, you’ll have to read this book. There is also a new character from the Nightfall series who shows up and provides plenty of tension in Ruben’s life. If you have read the previous installments in this series, you really need to read this one.
In a dystopian world torn apart by the mutant plague, death and danger are all around, as teens Zak and Eve flee the elitist Foundation cultists with their wounded protector, Master Sergeant Barber, hoping the sea will save them. The cultist-turned-vigilante, Reuben Bane's past, and true identity seem to have caught up with him, with the arrival of a face from his previous life/occupation. While searching for her young son Roberto, Dr Hannah Myers has been captured by another Foundation group, led by the evil Representative Carver. What's next for Hannah and her fellow medic Dr Lois Neff?

This ended up being a very good book and once the action started, particularly with Reuben as he neared New Boston, I had a hard time putting it down. I hate bullies, especially ones that hide behind religion and I'm a sucker for a redemption arc. We also find more about Reuben and his origins and the connections with the Nightfall series. The jump back west at the very end was a bit jarring, but sets up the next book.
This is a very good third part to this interesting, dystopian series! The more I read of this series, the more I like it! A scary religious patrimonial cult & a virus! What chance do they have? Brilliant tension & pace, moments that touch the heart! A really well written story! I do recommend!
This series just keeps getting better. I’ve grown to like Kevin Partner style of a quick pace and an interesting story line from his first series to the present. More please Mr. Partner.
Fast paced action that will keep you intrigued. A realistic future world that you don’t want to be a part of. Well written with strong characters that draw you into their world.
Over the Edge, book 3 of this series, is fraught with danger and uncertainty! Can anyone be trusted? Will the consequences be worth the possible costs? I’m sure of one thing amidst these questions, it will be a carnival of enjoyment for the readers to discover the answers.
Kevin Partner is one of my all-time favorite authors. In this series he has created characters that linger in my mind long past the last page. I highly recommend all of his works.
