*Thoughts*

Empires Will Fall, by author Alan McDermott, is the 5th and likely final chapter in the Eva Driscoll series. Main characters: Eva Driscoll, Simon Sunny Baines, and Tom Gray, along with Travis Burke, Rees Colback and Farooq Naser. All have had their lives fundamentally changed in ways they never could imagine by a group known as the Executive Security Office (ESO), the most powerful and secretive organization on the planet. ESO controls the media, banks, law enforcement, and governments.

I make no secret of the fact that this is one of my favourite authors and has been since way back when when I read the first in the Tom Gray series. He never ceases to amaze me with his plots and characters and maintains the highest standard when delivering a book.
This book is no deviation from that quality. Once again he smashes the ball out of the park with what can only be described as a scarily possibly could happen storyline, the credibility of which makes the whole thing all the more frightening. Anyway, I get ahead of myself. As always with series books I do recommend that you start from the beginning. Although the aforementioned scary story is self contained, the characters have a lot of backstory - two of them go even further back to the Tom Gray series so you could really start there if you haven't already - and if you haven't, why the heck not!?
Anyway, as well as the main scary story, we also have our main characters trying to escape capture from a rather nefarious faction, you'll know who if you have read the previous books. As well as this, success will grant them the freedom to go about their lives without constantly having to look over their shoulders. So they really do have a lot on their respective plates. But at no time does the book get overly busy. The story is tightly plotted and that plot expertly delivered. Played out by the usual suspects that I have grown to love over time, and also some really rather excellent episode characters, each just as well described. The "action" scenes and other military stuff, as always, is very well researched / created and, as already mentioned the whole thing comes across as totally credible. All of which is delivered in a high octane, high paced, no nonsense manner with no superfluous waffle or padding. It really is the real deal!
And an ending which makes me wonder all the more what could be next for Eva and the rest...? I hope I won't be waiting long to find out...

Very satisfying conclusion.

Another great story in the Eva Driscoll series which has consistently been excellent. There's always been plenty of thrilling action along the way with the odd moral dilemma thrown in and especially so here.

If this is the last in the series I'll be very sad as I really enjoy these, but if it is the end then at least it's a very satisfying one.

I just look forward to reading more stories from Alan McDermott as he's definitely one of my favourite authors ever and never disappoints.

The Mighty Have Fallen

At last the dreaded ESO have been stopped and hopefully will never return. It's been a few books but in the end they came through.
With plenty of twists and turns this story kept everyone enthralled with finding out who was who and having them taken care of, thankfully Sonia didn't have the cure!
Best of luck I wonder if we will read about Eva Driscoll again?

Loved all 5 in the series, but sad it's ending here..

I simply loved all the 5 novels in this Eva Driscoll series. Loved her character the way it is portrayed. Never read anything like it. I am really sad it ends here. Now looking for other books by the same author. Thanks a ton Mr Alan McDermott..

Empires Fall

An absolutely fabulous, page turning ending to the series and as a bonus, the people I hoped would survive made it to the end. I'm loving Alan McDermott's writing style.

First class

A brilliant action packed story as Eva, Sonny and Gray seek to bring an end to their long term problems with the ESO and find a way to live without fear. Is it the end of the series?

riveting

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I assume that it will be the last in the Eva Driscoll series, however, you never know. Someone may bring the ESO back to life and then it will be back to business.

Empires Will Fall is the fifth and quite possibly the last book in the excellent Eva Driscoll series is a scorcher from start to finish.
After the last adventure our group are trying to live their best lives even though they know they're being tracked by the insidious global group the ESO, in the case of Eva, Sonny, Tom and his daughter that means literally by means of implanted devices. This doesn't sit well with Eva, who is itching to take the fight to the bad guys and end their monopoly once and for all. At the same time a young woman a desperate scientist and his family are put firmly in the cross hairs of the ESO when the young woman, Sonia, takes part in a vaccine trial and proves to be astonishingly resistant to the Virus.
For Eva and the gang with the aid of ex- special forces friends Travis and Rees the race is on, save the civilians, expose the top tier of the ESO, cut of the head of the snake and survive it all.
As with most of Alan's books the pace is fast and furious, with lots of tech and gadgets, gun fights and hand to hand combat. What I like about the good guys is that they are not wishy-washy heroes, these guys are out to not only survive but win and sometimes that means being completely ruthless and trust me you really wouldn't want Eva or Sonny on your trail if you're a bad guy. Things are wrapped up in a very satisfying way with the end show down being literally breathless. You would definitely need to have read the others to enjoy this, so treat yourself... Go and buy the series!
