Beyond The Film: The Making Of VHS Favorites From The Video Store Era

by Jason McFiggins

Beyond The Film explores the making of sixteen films from the time of VHS and Be Kind Rewind, a time when deciding what to watch meant getting your shoes on and piling into the car. Some of the movies in this book were hits, some have been forgotten, and some never reached their potential, but all of them have behind the scenes stories with as much drama as any Hollywood screenplay. With accounts from the people who were there, box office and rental performance, film analysis, critical reception, information on select cast and crew, and the lasting legacy of each film, this book takes readers on a fun cinematic journey that truly goes beyond the film. Beyond The Film is a blast from the past that tells the other story of every movie, the one behind the scenes!

Here we have 16 essays (part-making of, part-review) on the author’s nostalgic rentals. They are pleasant, fine and well-written more often than not.

Shame about that cover, though.
