Eiichiro Oda (尾田栄一郎, Oda Eiichirō) is a Japanese manga artist, best known as the creator of the manga and anime One Piece.

As a child, Oda was inspired by Akira Toriyama's works and aspired to become a manga artist. He recalls that his interest in pirates was probably sparked by the popular TV animation series titled Vicky the Viking. He submitted a character named Pandaman for Yudetamago's classic wrestling manga Kinnikuman. Pandaman was not only used in a chapter of the manga but would later return as a recurring cameo character in Oda's own works.

One Piece, Vol. 29 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next eleven chapters (265–275) of the on-going manga series.

This tankōbon continues the Skypiea Arc. Having had a specific goal for becoming god and with that goal now in sight, Eneru starts picking off the remaining combatants to complete his plans and ensure his prediction will be accurate. Those who remain are drawn into one big, final brawl.

Meanwhile, Nico Robin locates the city of gold, only to find that all the gold is gone. The pieces begin to fall into place, and it is discovered that Eneru plans to destroy everyone who resides in the sky, while escaping to the seas below on his ship made of gold. With the five surviving "contestants" unaware of this, they engage Eneru in battle to see who will be excluded from his prediction. With his mastery over thunder, Eneru reduces the playing field to the promised five, but then decides that none of them is worthy of escaping with him to the blue seas.

This tankōbon is written and illustrated by Eiichirō Oda. For the most part, it is written and illustrated rather well. It continues the Skypiea Arc where it is revealed, by Nico Robin, that the City of Gold have been looted by Eneru, who plans on killing everyone save five to serve as his crew as they escape from Skypiea and sail away on a ship made of gold. However, in the end, Eneru, decides that the last five survivors were not worthy of escape.

All in all, One Piece, Vol. 29 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems really intriguing and I can't wait to read more.

First hald is dealing with the remaining fighters. Entertaining, especially Luffy dumbass stuck in the snakes belly too but nothing amazing. But then good old lightning boy shows up. The Kami himself. And he is a big old asshole. Great second half.

For me, One Piece is best Manga ever written. The story always touch my heart, it is a combination of faithful friendship, laughter, loyalty and action.
Some people might find this manga as silly and pointless (I’ve heard this before) but they never truly read the Manga and therefore judging it simply from the cover. I’ve been in that position too…and thank God I finally looked beyond the cover and found the greatest adventure any Mangaka ever written.

2025 reread : if you want my opinion on the fighting, go check out my review of volume 28, because the same points still apply here.
New things to mention : the whole thing with Zorro and the south bird is magnificient. It's hilarious. The comedic timing is perfect. Between Zorro and Luffy the amount of stupidity in the strawhat crew is truly staggering. I send strength to the few smart members of this crew.
Another thing that I like is how the history of the Shandia tribe is slowly being revealed to us. I like the fact that the manga doesn't try to make the inhabitants of angel island the good guys. And with Ener wanting to send them to crash down in the 'blue sea' it's a sort of twisted loop being closed, with the inhabitants of angel island facing what the Shandia faced 400 years ago by being sent to this unknown habitat and having everything taken from them by the people who lived there already. If there is one thing I appreciate in this arc it is the time spent on examining the evil of colonialism. And to a lesser degree there is some time spent on what makes a good/worthy leader, but I feel it is a bit more secondary.

Let's say it once again : this isn't my favorite arc... it's just that after a tyrant who secretly took over an island we have a tyrant who took over for secret reasons. Yeah Ener is dangerous and all but I feel like this arc is a bit long? It has some nice character moments to redeem it but I can't wait to be done with it ^^

All this stuff about no one ever dying... I talked about it in the other review, but really, what was Oda supposed to do? With as fearsome an enemy as Ener, it's either not letting him show off his power, or irrevocably darken what's meant to be a fun pirate adventure. You just need to have people survive even when they by all measure should not.

There's a few infamous cases where he could allow someone to die, though.

But, yeah, Ener really takes the field now. Luffy is still out of commission, but at this point, it's hard to tell how even he could do anything against such a foe. Everyone's down in the dumps, even the reader.

That is, unless you've figured it out...

A real shocker. Electrifying, one might say. Current-ly, I’d say this saga is my favorite. It amps up the action and world-building ten fold. Watt a great read!

Skypia has an interesting setting with obscure characters but now finally we are getting to the "good part". Enel forcing every one to fulfill his challenges resulting in awesome spectacle between four different parties is a great fun! Robin doing archaeological stuff, uncovering ruins and Luffy being stuck in a giant snake. It is a great fun ride but what I lack in here is stakes. It doesn't feel that the stakes are high and for some reason I think it is the way the antagonists are goofy and little incompetent.

3.5 🌟

I enjoyed this volume much more than the last one, although Skypedia is not my favorite so far… mostly to do with the continuation of the heavy themes of political/territorial injustices. Maybe it’s too much to ask for a reprieve of that topic… 😅

Robin delivered one of the coldest lines yet- “It’s time you felt the burden of the history you destroyed.”
Oh Robin, the woman you are~!

Kami Eneru’s ultimate plan to essentially nuke everything is… (something)

For all the buildup of how invincible he is, I’m expecting an incredible showdown for the next volume.

A lot of this felt like filler, but I enjoyed the sections with Robin. I'm intrigued to see what she's up too. Also liked the section with Luffy in the snake. He's so stupid sometimes, yet endearing. I get why Nami gets so annoyed with him!

SKYPIEA ARC - PART 4
1. okay. there's logia type of devil fruits and zoan devil fruits so far. zoan is animal based, essentially makes you a furry. eneru has got lightning and is associated with logia, so i'm putting out a bold assumption that people who have control of a certain element/can change their body up to that element are logia based? so that would be ace with fire, sir crocodile with sand, captain smoker with smoke, mr. 3 with wax? i don't know if luffy would count to that with his gum skills. and then there's also people like buggy or alvira, who have changes undergone to their human nature (break off body part or unmarred skin or like ms. double finger and the spikes?)

2. the last still of chapter 267 of everything coming together in the end is brilliant - you've got zoro, gearing up to fight for the gold. you've got wyper also ready to beat everyone to reclaim his homestead. you've got the vassal ohm, who is ready to deal out his justice in the name of the kami; the former kami, who wants to stop eneru; luffy, who found himself swallowed by the sky serpent?? this is gonna be so fun

3. the white vine cage match is like domain expansion but visible and with wires and also not as strong, but the idea matters

4. yes. plunder through the entire country as if people didn't live there, as if it wasn't torture to displace and imprison them, only to then crash the entire country and flee on an ark. good idea, yeah. these people fucking disgust me.

5. how do you fight against somebody who summons 20 million volt? - on that note, i like how much they raised the power level yet again with the entire construction of eneru's skill. it's scary, and it really made me tense, wondering how the fight is going to go. he is an interesting being, very blinded with his outlook on the hierarchy of humans and nature, his delusional grandeur, and also completely despicable

Skypeia Zoro just has a special place in my heart, like man is so directionally challenged is too funny – he is walking around with a bird which biological always to point south, where he needs to go, and he still is just lost! He is then attacked by that bird and is just flown right where he needs to be!

Zoro finds Chopper all cut and beat up, and the man is ready to lock in like ooooh you hurt my son? Ok, well, I don’t fight with motive, but boy do I have one now! The Zoro x Chopper content is everything I could have wanted – thanks Oda!

This is the second time in the series that Zoro has been mistaken as the Captain – he is just too powerful to be considered as a crew member!

Luffy has been swallowed by a massive snake and is just fucking around with a gold crown on his head, punching the walls of the ‘cave’!

Eneru meets the 6 remaining players in the death game and asks who is going to die for his bet to come true, and everyone says him! LOL! Then he says the coldest line ever, after restarting his own heart, he says “people do not fear god, fear is god” - DAMNNNN

Many great duel "Versus" matches in this volume. It houses one of my favorite One Piece panels, the Wyper, Zoro, Ganfor, and Robin lineup. I always adore characters coming together to beat an enemy they realize that they couldn't beat by themselves. Ganfor's motivation to save his soldiers and make up for the mistakes and his ignorance during his time as Kami and to make up for the sins of the Kami's that come before him make Ganfor, The Sky Knight, my favorite character introduced in Skypiea...oh also his badass design. Its been a while since I read this volume, so this is all I will say about this volume. Oh and Eneru is great, he's just as big of a egomaniacal prick as always.

Probably the strongest volume of this arc so far which I'm glad for because I was starting to get irked with it.

Robin fully showcasing her powers was quite badass. Starting to really like her character.

As always Luffy is completely clueless. How he was swallowed by a snake and had no idea whatsoever I don't know. Mans just follows his stomach and doesn't care.

Still quite annoyed with Chopper's characterisation it is ruining his character for me.
