Scarlet Campbell’s friends had all coupled off, and it had happened this year. All five of them had found love while Scarlet had continued to go back and forth about coming out to her family, and on top of that, she still couldn’t talk to women. Every time she tried, she choked. She got nervous. She said something stupid. As a result, she was still a single nerd who worked as a data analyst and did coding on the side.
Dakota Wagner was new to the marketing team of a software company, tasked with building a customer community. To do that, though, she needed data. When Dakota was sent Scarlet’s way, she found the woman endlessly adorable, so she wanted to get to know more about her other than her fascination with sugar and numbers.
In Scarlet’s eyes, Dakota was sexy, smart, and would have no problem finding a girlfriend easily, so Scarlet didn’t think she’d have a chance. Little did she know that Dakota was exactly who she needed in her life to get the courage to be more herself, conquer her fears, and finally come out to her family.

**'Characters should all come into their own especially those unfinished ones because one do end up being the edifice of the storyline...'
Delightful read! A perfect title to complete this ongoing 'HOLIDAY' series --- it's also well written and does have that classic Nicole Pyland's fast-paced flow. The storyline do lean more to Scarlet finding her own person (Dakota) and it shockingly happened at her workplace. As usual, all the other friends along with their girlfriends/partners do play roles of encouragement and are supportive of Scarlet, this very peculiar being as readers saw at the start of this series in book #1 -- on the choice of who she finally developed feelings for --- in addition there are lots of updates and snippets about each of the friends (Wes, Talon, Aria, Ellie & Pais) livelihoods. A recommended book #6 and the entire series!
This is the 6th book of the Holiday series featuring a sapphic friend group and as the friends are really close, I encourage reading this series in order to reap maximum enjoyment. As Books 5 and 6 are paraquels, this means that Scarlet finds her person about the same time as Paisley does.
It came as a surprise when Scarlet announced in Book 5 that she was seeing someone but I realise this was only because Paisley was out of the loop due to her busy schedule and new love life. The other friends were pretty much in the loop and supportive of Scarlet's budding romance with her colleague, Dakota.
Scarlet is one of the friends who didn't stand out in the series and I realise this is because she's really shy and gets worse when she's faced with beautiful women she's attracted to. She also lacks self confidence and tends to overthink matters, hence she finds it hard to date and also to come out to her family. It takes a certain kind of someone to penetrate those walls and I guess that is why Dakota is perfect for Scarlet. Dakota is patient, persistent, encouraging and gentle and she basically wears Scarlet down before Scarlet gives in.
This romance is really sweet with literally zero angst and I don't deny that it's a nice read but I have to say that it isn't my favourite of this series based on personal preferences as Scarlet isn't the kind of woman that I'm drawn to. Shyness and low self-confidence isn't an attractive trait to me.

In a series that revolves around a group of six friends with an ever growing circle, Scarlet really doesn’t stand out. She is extremely shy and she has very few interactions in the previous books. I’m book 5, The Misperception (my favourite), it came as a bit of a surprise to hear that Scarlet had found herself a girlfriend. What I realise now is that Paisley was just so engrossed in her own bubble we just didn’t get a lot of information about the friends.
So, this story, Scarlet is extremely shy and when Dakota shows up as a new colleague she goes into that uncomfortable state of being an inarticulate, bumbling fool. It could, and maybe should, be adorable but I find it slightly irritating after a while. I think it’s because it just keeps getting mentioned and shown in interactions, I would have been fine with just one of those. Dakota is one of the most patient characters ever and she’s wonderful. What I like about her is her patience, but even more so that she’s showing all these character trades (loving, caring, etc.) that are usually reserved for the more femme characters in these type of books. So to read about a butch like this, loved it. This story has a nice flow, like most of Pyland’s books really. It’s just easy and comfortable to read. Fun fact: Scarlet makes several remarks about the ever expanding friend circle and I can only agree. Too many, too fast, hard to keep up.
This was the final story of this friend group, of course we’ll get a “What Happened After...” in true Pyland fashion, but if you’ve never read Pyland this is a good series to start with. Lots of different stories and some great friendships.

Scarlet is what most would call a late bloomer. She knows what she wants but the right opportunities haven't come along quite yet for her. When she meets Dakota at work she doesn't understand why the hot girl would want to date her of all people. This was my favorite of this series, I loved Scarlet throughout the series as I felt I had the most in common with her. I liked that Dakota was so patient and saw who Scarlet was right away after meeting her. Their slow burn romance was cute and I loved their communication through Dakota's reporting dashboard. This whole series was really fun and I loved the holiday theme. It's definitely one I'll be reading again in the future.
So looking forward to reading Scarlet’s story… I had high expectations for book 6 cos it’s Scarlet; the quiet one, the shy (and timid) Scarlet who more often than not tries to blend and stay in the background….
And note to myself… please manage your expectations. Not that it’s not interesting, it is but because it is written at the same time frame as Paisley, there were repetitions. And I’m not in favour of reading the same scene again especially since it’s still fresh in my head. Other than that, Scarlet’s story is entertaining enough for me to finally flip to the last page.
I absolutely love Scarlet and Dakota together. A wonderful story of coming out and experiencing a lot of firsts together. Dakota is so patient and loving it just made me melt. Scarlet shows a lot of courage and it was nice to see her stand up for herself. A great story to end the series. I can't wait for the What Happened After book.

The Wait is Over is book 6 in Nicole Pyland’s Holiday Series, and Scarlett finds love. I like the authentic way Pyland writes and have enjoyed the majority of her books, and there are a lot of them. But she somehow manages to consistently create a group of friends and slowly let their stories unfold while keeping the plots fresh.
Scarlett is the group’s shy friend, and she did fly under my radar in the first four books. She made more of an appearance in book 5 when it became clear that her story had begun to unfold in the background of Paisley’s. This was clever as it added an air of mystery to a character the reader hadn’t heard much about.
Unable to come out to her family, Scarlet can’t seem to speak in front of women and has never had a girlfriend. She loves her job and side gig coding, but watching all of her friends fall in love has her longing for the same thing.
Dakota has just moved into a new place and started a new job, and on her first day, meets Scarlett. Captivated by her shy co-worker, she is determined to at least make a friend, if not more. Breaking down Scarlett’s walls is a slow process, but one she is more than happy to undertake.
In true Pyland style, the dialogue flows seamlessly, with conversations and banter between the group of friends contributing to the story feeling convincing and relevant. I didn’t go into this book having much of an opinion of Scarlett and wasn’t sure if that would affect my overall enjoyment, but it turned out that this one was one of my favourites from the entire series. There is something about Scarlet that resonated with me, and Dakota just seems like the perfect butch.
Now, the only question I have is, can we get Aubrey, Mariah, and Janet’s story next?
I LOVED this book. Scarlet for me has the best story. I mean I enjoyed Paisley’s story a lot too, but I don’t know, I have a soft spot for the "underdog".
How patient Dakota was with Scarlet and then how Scarlet returned that to Dakota (because of their age difference and stages in their life’s -without any drama-) is out of this world, but I firmly believe that it’s no strange to some people which reinstates my faith at least in the romantic department.
This book is about a 28 year old virgin. There is sex in the first chapter though. How? Ever heard of self care? That is very necessary in that case. After the first chapter there are a lot of sexless chapters, but also a massive built-up to the big moment and then the flood gates are open. Because then the wait is really over.
It's really about shy Scarlet opening up. Literally. Scarlet is not only shy but also a socialy awkward creature who gets nervous around attractive women. Dakota does not have that problem. She is very forward and comes across as a bit cocky.
Unfortunately I didn't get to know Dakota all that much. Were did she live before she got her new job? Doesn't she have any friends? Did she have previous relationships? None of those things were addressed.
This was the last book in the Holiday series and that is fine, but it also would be nice if there was another one with Mariah, Janet and Aubreys story.
The only know each other for 1 weeks and they’re already in love? YEAH RIGHT And what’s up with saying i love you for the first time while having sex??? The only part I enjoyed in this book is when Scarlet met with her friends and the epilogue 🤷🏻♀️.
Pre review: I’m still not really sure if i want to read this one, after all I did skip the first book in the series 🤣
Nicole Pyland created the perfect ending for this series. I enjoyed it immensely and loved the chemistry. The strong friendships she creates, the perfect pairing of the couples, it truly is a fantastic read. I look forward to the update in the couples lives. I will be rereading this series again.
I simply couldn’t wait for Scarlet’a story and although we knew after book 5 that Dakota existed, none of the story felt spoiled.
I loved how they completed and understood each other, Dakota was exactly what Scarlet needed, her patience and kindness was perfect. It felt soft and nice and warm but also HOT. It was a beautiful read and I cannot wait for the “what happened after”.
An other wonderful series from Nicole Pyland, I highly recommend it to everyone, especially at this time of the year where all the fuzzy feelings are welcome!

Super easy read. No third act break-up. Nice spice levels, but some of it was a bit unrealistic for the circumstance. This last book still has some of the same problems of the other books. Scenes from other books are literally copied and pasted and it just seems like a weak way to move the story along.
Will I read more of her stuff, yes. Absolutely. It’s gonna be my beach read spice.
I'm so happy with this series - I loved each book! This group of friends is special - makes you wanna get together with your besties for a Holiday vacation.
Scarlett and Dakota were super adorable!🥰 It was nice to see Scarlett come out of her shell and accept herself for who she is. And Dakota was just perfect for her. Such a sweet holiday romance.
The Wait is Over is book 6 in the Holiday series by Nicole Pyland. The focus is on Scarlet, which is a heart-warming, low angst story.
Scarlet has quite a few self-doubts, low self-esteem, and is quite happy to take a back seat in conversations. Her role as a data analyst within a company brings her into contact with Dakota, a manager who has recently joined the company in a different department and needs Scarlet's expertise. Dakota is very patient and understanding and has a way of bringing Scarlet out of herself.
I enjoyed the interaction with Scarlet's old friends, which gives an update on what has been happening in their life.
I received an ARC copy of this book from the author for my honest review.
if Scarlet has a million fans, then I am one of them. if Scarlet has ten fans I am one of them. if Scarlet has only one fan and that is me. is Scarlet has no fans, that means I am no longer on earth.
This is the perfect choice for the last Holiday of the year, Christmas. Scarlet, the 6th member of the pack, has 3 things on her to do list, fall in love, come out and lose her virginity. It’s sweet and very low on angst. It’s also a slow burn but once they get going they don’t seem to stop so maybe don’t read this in public. We heard about Scarlet’s fear of coming out to her parents and her shyness around women in all the previous books but we learn that she’s not only shy when it comes to beautiful women but her lack of self esteem makes her reluctant to accept that a beautiful woman likes her even when one repeatedly asks her out. A great ending for this series and looking forward to What Happened After.
It’s finally Scarlet’s story - the one I have been waiting for and Nicole Pyland did not disappoint!
Scarlet is the quiet and shy one in her friend group. She spends her days behind a computer working as a data analyst and is content with not having to interact with people much. The day-to-day life gets lonely for her as she’s longing for her one after watching all her friends find their significant others. She’s never had a girlfriend because when it comes to talking to women she’s attracted to, she shrivels up and her awkwardness drives them away, until Dakota.
Dakota is a new employee at the company Scarlet works for, and she reaches out to Scarlet for help on a project. The attraction between them is immediate, and Dakota can’t help but smile when Dakota blushes and is awkward in their conversations. Her attempts at getting to know Scarlet are shot down as Scarlet has a hard time fathoming how an attractive woman like Dakota would want to get to know her or be with her.
What I love about this relationship is how patient and persistent Dakota is when it comes with Scarlet. Dakota is never one to push Scarlet to do something she isn’t comfortable with, and I think their personalities complement one another well. Where Scarlet is shy and scared, Dakota is bold and outgoing. Every insecurity Scarlet has, Dakota is right there to wipe away her worries. I enjoyed getting to know both characters on their respective journeys and felt like I was right there through the emotional patches.
One thing I was hoping in this story was to have a bit more angst between the characters. Perhaps more a bit more fighting or another big event to spice up the storyline a bit more, since the story culminated in Scarlet’s coming out story. However, can’t fault Nicole here as the story was great as is :).
Though every book in the Holiday Series was well-written, my favorites are “The Fireworks” and “The Wait is Over”. Now, I am patiently waiting for the “What Happens After” book that wraps up/concludes each character’s love story.
I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
The Wait is Over by Nicole Pyland is a captivating addition as the sixth book in The Holiday series. Pyland masterfully delivers a beautiful romance story that does not disappoint. From the start, it is evident that Pyland had something special in store for Scarlet, and her storyline builds up beautifully throughout the previous books in the series.
One of Pyland’s strengths is her ability to create believable and captivating characters that jump off the pages. Dakota and Scarlet’s slow-burn romance perfectly exemplifies Pyland’s excellent storytelling. The tension, anticipation, and character development are incredibly well-crafted and engaging both leading up to this book and within it.
I appreciated that Pyland addresses the challenges that come with coming out to your family later in life in this story. Scarlet’s panic and worries are relatable and realistic, making the audiobook even more immersive. The Wait Is Over has the perfect balance of romance and emotional depth, with just the right amount of angst. Carolyn Eve’s narration is spot on, making Scarlet’s character come to life in a way that will stay with me for a long time.
Overall, The Wait is Over is a fantastic audiobook that is a testament to Pyland’s storytelling talent. It is an excellent addition to the series, and the title perfectly matches the story’s theme. It is a must-read for anyone who loves a heartwarming and beautifully written romance, especially one about finding love for the first time (even if it’s in your 20s)
This much anticipated final book (with the exception of the What Happen’s After) of Pyland’s Holiday series. AND Scarlet’s story was worth the wait. Scarlet and Paisley are the last two in the group of friends to find their HEA and these last two book take place during the same time frame much like the first two books in the series.
Scarlet is shy. She is having feelings of missing out/being left behind by her friends, and still in the closet with her family. Then she meets… “the world’s most perfect butch” and her life will never be the same. “The world’s most perfect butch,” Dakota, is probably the kindest and most patient person to ever exist. From pie charts, to texting when you aren't brave enough to talk, to ‘butch points’, Dakota came up with the cutest ways to flirt and break down Scarlet’s walls. Dakota has something special about her that makes you want to have someone like her in your life, and Scarlett is the quiet friend you root for and desperately want to see happy.
This story just fills you with the feels. It’s Sweet, Funny, Heartwarming… I could go on and on. I will never understand how Pyland’s characters always seem so relatable. You never want to stop reading. I highly recommend this book and will even go so far as to say it is a must read. That being said since it’s the last book in the series, you should just go read them all if you haven’t!
Was it worth waiting till the end? Yes, it was so worth the wait! My favorite book in this series is The Fireworks, but this story is giving it a good run for it's money! In this story not only do you get to know Scarlet and Dakota, the hot butch that wants to be in Scarlet's dreams, you get to see how the friends really interact. You get to see how much they really care for each other. But anyway back to Scarlet and Dakota. Oh sweet Scarlet, how you were so blind to the flirting ways of Dakota. But that didn't stop Dakota, no she like what she saw and was willing to wait forever, just to get the chance. She didn't have to wait forever, sweet Scarlet seen the flirty ways, seen them with the help from her friends. Then she seen Dakota's patient ways, with a little help from her friends. She sure does run things by her friends a lot. But as her bond with Dakota grew so did her self confidence. Then she was doing things like coming out to her parents, calling Dakota her girlfriend, meeting her girlfriends family, and of course sex, a lot of sex. This was a fantastic story about Scarlet! Threw the whole series you got to see the inner workings of this group of friends. And it's a friend group that I think we all wish we had. Awesome job Nicole! Thank you for sharing this tale with us all!

3.75 stars - the final friend finding love, and it was done in an enjoyable way. Scarlet is the quiet one in the group. Not a ton of mention of her up until the previous book in this series, and even still it seem like her point was only to set up this book. Due to this, I was really curious how Scarlet made and maintained these friendships over the years, as she really seemed like a bit of an outcast to me. I mentioned this in my review for the previous book, but I expected we would see Scarlet/Paisley have a strong relationship, which was kind of hinted at in both books, but they both just seemed to be in their own world and not there for one another. This was a miss for me, because I felt like Paisley and Scarlet were not getting a fair shake like the rest of the group. #JusticeForScarletAndPaisley
Now to get to the main relationship, Scarlet is very sweet although was sometimes a bit frustrating to me, so I just know Dakota has the patience of a saint. The patience is what makes her such a good match for Scarlet! These two were very sweet, and the development of the relationship made sense. I think most readers got the vibe that Scarlet’s “secret” was going to be taken well by her family, but it was taken so well that I was kind of wondering more about why Scarlet waited so long to tell them. Usually that fear comes from a some place, but I just didn’t get where it was coming from with her family. They seemed great!
This book has some of the same scene repetition from the previous book, a device I HATED in the second book for this series…. However it was not as bad in this book because it was not as frequent.

This is the sixth book in Nicole Pyland's Holiday Series. This is Scarlet's story. Throughout the series, which focuses on a friend group from college, Scarlet is the shyest of the bunch. Scarlet isn't out to her family and hasn't really had a girlfriend. I was most excited about Scarlet's story. Scarlet just seemed to need a little jump start to get her life moving in the direction she wanted. Apparently the little push that Scarlet needed was to meet Dakota.
This is such a low angst story of two people coming together. Dakota and Scarlet seem to really complement one another and bring out the best in each other. Scarlet needed someone to patiently reaffirm they were interested in her and allow Scarlet to embrace it. I loved getting to see Dakota demonstrate her interest, gift some twizzlers, and not push or pressure Scarlet but just walk with her.
This was really a light fun read and I can't wait to see how their relationship has progressed in What Happened After...
The Wait is Over is the sixth book in Pyland’s holiday series and it tells Scarlet’s story. While reading this holiday series this was the one story I was looking forward to the most and it did not disappoint.
Throughout the Holiday series Scarlet is described as an unknowingly beautiful, shy woman but wow is there so much more to her! She certainly is those things but she’s also brilliant, funny and extremely relatable. I personally couldn’t help but see the parallels of what we all go through just trying to live our best life while reading Scarlet’s story. Scarlet and how she finds her lady love Dakota is a story I think will resonate with a lot of people.
In my opinion Scarlet is probably the most relatable and fleshed out character within the Holiday series. Pyland does an amazing job of letting us know who Scarlet is and why. The Wait is Over is a true love story filled with firsts and I loved every second of it.
Thank you Nicole Pyland for this beautiful, steamy and thought provoking Holiday series. I can’t wait to see what happens in The What Happened After.
When a writer can put together two characters that totally compliment each other and creates a story that allows the reader to immerse themselves into the characters and feel apart of the story that even brings the reader to tears, it’s a magical story. I’ve read the entire series and with each book I fall more in love with the characters. Each time I think the last was my favorite, now I’m not so sure, but this last one, well it was poignant and beautiful. Scarlet’s story was so emotional for me as a reader because her character was so shy yet their was an expressiveness in her character that makes you want to learn more about her. I think that’s why Dakota compliments Scarlet so much and as she kept digging to learn more, she wasn’t pushy, and it was worth learning. Scarlet is the shy awkward type who has never had a girlfriend while Dakota has a strong but deep personality. Like I said they compliment each other. They totally connect but what’s most important is that they love each other for their differences even the twizzler addiction Scarlet seems to have. Another must read!!!
The Wait is Over by Nicole Pyland was by far my favourite book in the Holiday Series. When Scarlet was first introduced back in previous books as a super shy individual (outside of her friends group) her story became the story I was looking forward to reading the most. As someone who is also shy I knew Scarlet was a character I would most relate with. Honestly, the book was even better than I was hoping it would be!
The relationship between Dakota and Scarlet had a slow burn, which was what helped Scarlet to come out of her shell. I loved how when Scarlet's shyness made talking in person or responding to questions difficult and overwhelming for her, Dakota would switch to texting Scarlet as she realised it was an easier way for her to talk. The way Dakota supported her and helped Scarlet to see herself as others do, helped her to gain more confidence in herself.
I'm sad the series in coming to an end, but its one I will definitely read over and over again!
This is the last book of the Holiday Series and is Scarlet's time.
This is bittersweet since I loved this series so much, but was also very much looking forward to Scarlet's story.
I am introvert like Scarlet and related so much to her character and her genuine reactions. I don't have a Twizzlers addiction, LOL, but do like my sweets. Scarlet's intelligence is off the charts sexy!
When she says Dakota is the "world's most perfect butch", Ellie and the others encourage and are very happy for Scarlet. Dakota is smitten with Scarlet and takes gentle care to ensure Scarlet's comfort throughout their relationship.
Scarlet is the character you root for! It's fun to catch up with the other friends and how all of their relationships are progressing.
The series ends where it began, New Year's Eve. Very fitting. The characters are so relatable. This is a series to read over and over again.
Nicole Pyland once again delivered an excellent book and series! There will be a What Happened After ... coming soon, which is a great time to catch up with the characters.
The 6th book in the series, Scarlet is the last friend in her group that is single that is until she meets Dakota. In book 5 there is a mention of Dakota. Scarlet unlike her friends is the shy one of the group and also still a virgin. Which makes this story even more different then the rest of them. I love how you get to see the relationship between Scarlet and Dakota unfold. Dakota is new in town and starts working at the same place Scarlet does. Dakota from the beginning is drawn to Scarlet. From there you get to see how Scarlet doesn’t even know how to let someone in but Dakota’s patience and willing to make it work is so sweet and amazing. Nicole still manages to make Scarlets first time so sweet and loving, yet still keeps it hot and sexy!! Such a great story. Can be read as a stand-alone but the way all the characters storylines cross in each other stories was nicely done. Love this group of friends.
Scarlet wants what her friends have found over the past year…LOVE. Extremely shy Scarlet who tends to blush at almost everything and an ability to speak incoherently to new people has made it difficult to go on a date much less find a girlfriend. Until Dakota – “The world’s most perfect butch” with a welcoming smile – asks Scarlet for guidance with gathering data at work. With the aid of bar graphs, text messages, and Twizzlers they can get to know each other. I’ve enjoyed meeting and getting to know the wonderful couples in the Holiday Series but I would say Scarlet & Dakota are my absolute favorite. Your heart will be bursting when Scarlet is no longer hiding and feels free to be her whole self and finding love along the way. The Wait Is Over is the perfect ending to this series.
PSA: Make sure you are stocked up on your favorite snacks - especially those Twizzlers :)
