BRIAN CHRISTOPHER SHEA has spent most of his adult life in service to his country and local community. He honorably served as an officer in the U.S. Navy. In his civilian life, he reached the rank of Detective and accrued ten years of law enforcement experience between Texas and Connecticut. Somewhere in the mix he spent five years as a fifth-grade school teacher. Brian’s myriad of life experience is woven into the tapestry of each character’s design. He resides in New England and is blessed with an amazing wife and three beautiful daughters.

Writing has always been a dream, but life seemed to find a way of interrupting. It wasn’t until recently that he dedicated time to this passion. His first book, The Camel’s Back, gave him a much-needed mental break from his work investigating atrocities against children. He allotted time in the morning each day. Usually waking at 5 to bang away on his manuscript. The second round of daily writing would occur after his children were asleep. He proved that working full-time and raising a family were no longer valid excuses to putting off his novel.

This is the second book in the Lexi Mills series and I recommend reading them in order as the storyline is continuing. Overall, there were less action scenes and plot twists in this book than in the first book, but there were enough suspense moments and I liked that there was more room for Lexi and Nita as a couple and I especially liked to see Nita’s side of the story.

Lexi, an ATF explosives expert, is still chasing her arch nemesis who cost her her leg. He hates her as much as she hates him because in this book, he lays out an explosive trap for Lexi to further his own evil plans and kill Lexi in the process. Lexi once again gets help from Noah and she is caught between work and her private life.
Nita is struggling with coping with Lexi’s dangerous job, her injury and her history with addiction and she’s is about to relapse. As I already mentioned, I liked that Nita has a bigger role in this book and that you get to see things from her perspective. I hope this will continue in the third book as well. To me, their private life and their dynamic as a couple really adds to the storyline and to Lexi as a character.

The writing in this instalment was smoother than the first instalment and it seems that Brian Shea and Stacy Lynn Miller found their writing groove together. This is an excellent second book in the Lexi Mills series that I easily recommend.

Very enjoyable read for on my holiday today.

This is part 2 of a 4 part series. Once again Lexi Mills is chasing after her arch enemy Belcher and risking her life to do it. She’s also risking the love of her life in the process.

This book is filled with action and diffusing bombs left and right. Lexi has her work cut out for her but luckily she has her friend Noah Black to help her.

Lexi’s girlfriend Nita is along on this mission and she has a very difficult time dealing with the danger that Lexi jumps into headfirst everytime.

ARC received from Net Galley for an honest and voluntary review.

“PROXIMITY is a propulsive action thriller with a fearless heroine ”

I’ll say. This second book in the Lexi Mills series is filled with more nail biting moments for our heroine Lexi. Her arch nemesis has once again set traps meant to advance his cause and eliminate Lexi in the process. Her sense of duty makes it impossible for Lexi to not rush in to help those in danger. Action thriller/heroism 101. What adds to the expected mayhem in Proximity is the presence of Lexi’s girlfriend Nita throughout the novel.

Nita plays a small but important role in the first book Fuze as Lexi’s physio and eventual lover. In Proximity we see the other side of falling in love with a hero. Nita is battling demons of her own and the stress of not knowing the one you love will survive her mission is explored. Kudos to the authors for adding some needed depth and emotional conflict for both Lexi and Nita. I found myself questioning what I would do in Nita’s shoes. Added to my reading pleasure and discomfort. Well done.

A copy of this book was received with thanks from publisher via NetGalley for review.

Hostages and bomb threats

A family held hostage and the husband is forced to hold his employees and a few customers hostage with bombs placed around the premises. The demand is for Lexi's presence. Will Lexi be able to save them and herself as well? A gripping edge of the seat thriller which is a page turner. The anguish and terror of the victims and the psyche of the perpetrators is aptly portrayed

I received a ARC of this book and my thanks to the team of NetGalley and the author for the copy.

All views expressed in this review are my own and based on my reading of this book. Some of the comments were made as I progressed in this book and I have not tried editing them as it expresses my continuous thoughts as I progressed with the story.

This is the second book of a series featuring titular character Lexi Mills and despite flashbacks to the earlier book can be read as a standalone novel.
I have been expanding my reading horizon with NetGalley reading new authors writing on my favorite topics especially thrillers. This is my first book from the authors.

The story is a taut thriller featuring Lexi as a much decorated ATF agent, one who has received name and fame in the line of duty having foiled an assassination attempt on a Governor. Right through the book we see her character as someone passionate about her duty and an expert of sorts on diffusing explosives as well as one with an encyclopedic memory of various types of mines and bombs.

I got pulled into the book initially by the name and the cover picture which frankly took me off in a different direction making me feel this was aa story about an UFO landing on a field and maybe something to do with crop circles.
It was when I read the Book Blurb that I got an inkling on the story line so for me the cover was a red flag.

Coming back to the story the years of law enforcement experience of the writer duo reflects well in the writing with the police processes in handling a crisis spot on.

Here in this book we have what seems to be a kidnapping for money blowing up into a major hostage crisis involving terrorists, bombs and prisoner release.

This is also where the story nods its head to its prequel and brings Lexi Mills into the story as the person demanded by the kidnapper to participate as the representative of law enforcement in this crisis.

A terrorist with a history with Lexi has set up a chessboard to trap and kill her in the line of duty and expose her as a false hero in the process securing release for his brother.

The story pans out with the usual and has all the items for an intense drama with the police, the FBI, an eager beaver by the books SWAT, hostages at different locations, a reluctant participant blackmailed to become the villain, bombs placed strategically, protagonist challenged to prove herself and a terrorist with a bone to grind with her. The story moves fast and the twists and expected turns coming every other page.

The story gives us a bird's eye view of Lexi's personal life and life after losing a limb and becoming a prosthetic limb user. Her struggles and her success at regaining her work life is something that I loved reading about in this book. Her love and family life is also a part of this story and we see her travails and struggles to maintain her relationship with her job and more her singlemindedness to duty being the biggest constraint. The story gives us stories about people like we see in our lives and their challenges like Nita her friend and one whom Lexi hopes to propose to one day is struggling with her addiction and rehabilitation after surgery and who also faces the mental strain of loving someone who is a dedicated officer and who doesn't think consequences while following her duty where she has already faced death before.

As a person who engages with people in the sphere of disability as a social activist trying to make society aware of the importance of Inclusion and Access for all, this story gave me characters that are a representation of the eco-system. We have Lexi the principal character as a person with a prosthetic limb and Dylan a child, one of the hostages has a hearing disability and is learning lip reading and sign language. The strength and independence of both the characters is a refreshing reading.

Lexi the hero of this piece feels that receiving awards and medals for doing her job was unnecessary and embarrassing and it is almost like being portrayed as inspiration porn (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inspira...) and as a reader I could identify it. I appreciate Stacy drawing on her own experiences with challenges in vision and extending them to the book.

Belcher senior comes across as a villain who is hell bent on revenge while fulfilling his larger plan. His brother "Amadeus" comes across as a smug sick b****** who doesn't care two hoots for others lives and this is where I feel the duo of Brian and Stacy have excelled.

What did not feel clear was how Belcher comes across as a master terrorist who seems to plan his activities to a T but has no back-up to his plan at the store. The original kidnapping and rescue was also where his planning seemed to falter as not a single bomb explodes and Lexi decodes his challenge quite well.
The too obvious love between Lexi and Nita is again sometimes a bit of drag and does not add to the story. Nita's aloofness due to a combination of stress, medicine and drugs should have been enough and apart from the first meeting which one could understand what with a Damocles sword hanging on Lexi, the rest was just chaff. Nita's character could have been more clingy with her background not Lexi.
Another thing that rankled was that the character Biscuit conveniently knows about the only Achilles heel of the shed where Belcher's stooges have left his kidnapped family. Too pat a scenario.

Notwithstanding the above, this series stands out as a book of real looking characters with their scars and flaws both physical and mental, real and imagined, fighting with their own demons of livelihood, addiction, confidence, physical challenges and living their lives.

A worth read and recommended to all.

4 stars through and through. Brian and Stacy have it in them to take this up several notches. Best of luck to the duo.

I received an ARC from "Severn Publishing" and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

The story begins with Lexi along with her life partner, Nita, on a plane to California for an event where Lexi and Neal were to receive an award. While in the air, Lexi received a message to go to Gladding, Calf. where there was a hostage situation, and the location was packed with bombs. Once Lexi arrived at the scene and examined the situation, she then waited around. Lexi later was told about a situation that was at an old POW camp where there was a police officer had stepped on a mine and needed assistance. She also discovered that beside the police officer the family of the store owner where the hostages were located were also surrounded by explosives. Lexi also discovered that having her at the site was the entire reason for the hostage situation.

Nita and Noah heard of the situation and went to Gladding to help Lexi. Lexi had other plans that involved Nita, but Nita discovered what danger Lexi put herself in every time she handled a call. This impacted Nita a great deal and it took Noah time to be able to defuse the situation with Nita.

Read about the steps that Lexi took in order to accomplish the task at the POW camp as well as what else she needed to accomplish before she was able to finally crash at the hotel. Discover who was behind the hostage situation and why it was so important for Lexi to be on the scene. The ending will provide all of the clarification.

This is definite book that you should read and will have you finding and reading more books in this series.

What a treat to be approved to read this advance reader copy from NetGalley. I read and enjoyed the first of this series although each could be read as a standalone. Carve out some time for this action packed, tension filled story, you won’t be able to find a place to pause.
Lexi is a decorated ATF agent with unparalleled skills when it comes to diffusing explosives. She literally gets pulled from her flight to a new crisis. Hostages, incendiary devices, SWAT, the FBI and an evil terrorist group leader demanding her presence. The scenes play out with white-knuckle intensity.
Lexi’s life partner gets an up-close, frightening experience seeing what the job entails and she is not prepared for how the unrelenting fear of losing her feels like. She may not be able to handle loving her. It takes a special commitment to love someone you know risks their life every time they go to work.
What sets this series apart is the diverse representation of ordinary people with strengths and flaws, those you might pass every day. The homeless, an addict, a deaf child, the LBGQ couple, a housewife, the store clerk, each one is relevant if given the opportunity.
Highly recommend this thrilling read and the authors. Proximity is 2nd in the Lexi Mills series, by Brian Shea and Stacy Lynn Miller, expected publish date Feb. 09, 2023 by Severn River Publishing. These are all my own honest personal thoughts and opinions given voluntarily without compensation.

What is the cost of getting the bad guy?
Proximity, the second story in the Lexi Mills series is as hard-hitting, gritty, and dark as its predecessor Fuze. Brian Shea and Stacy Lynn Miller have created a character who is deeply flawed, won’t quit, and works every moment to honor her commitments. But that’s just Lexi, they also created Nita, Noah and a supporting cast that make each story “unputdownable.” To say this is an action-packed story/series is a true understatement. From the opening page the authors put their foot on the accelerator and never let up. Along with the action, they present life situations that their readers can relate to, in fact Proximity had me revisiting my younger self and his adventures through one of the characters' experiences in this story. When an author or authors can bring raw feelings right into a story where you start talking to the characters you know they’ve done an excellent job of storytelling. If you read the Fuze you must read this book, if not go get Fuze and I guarantee you will find yourself reading Proximity the same day or the next day after you finish Fuze. I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher and chose to provide this review.

I have read other books by Brian Shea & enjoyed them very much. This one seemed to try too hard to be woke, and that took away from my enjoyment of it. While Mr. Shea is a very good writer, and I like books with lots of action (which this had), and even some romance, I have no desire to read about lesbians’ love lives. Had this book been categorized as such, I would not have even started it. I didn’t realize it was the second book in a series either; otherwise, I would have read reviews from the first book, and discovered that the main character was a lesbian. I would not have committed to read and review this one had I known. There was nothing in the description of the book to indicate this either. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against lesbians or gays, but as a heterosexual woman, I prefer to read heterosexual romances. Needless to say, I will not be reading any more of this series. I received a copy of this book from SRP, and I have given my voluntary and honest opinion.

This is a non-stop action packed thriller. Lexi Mills is a bomb expert who is called in to defuse bombs and save lives. In this book, this bomber is a menace from her past, back to make sure Lexi dies for good. The characters were relatable and the plot kept me glued to my seat throughout. I liked the way the author helped the reader realize that Lexi and people like her put their lives on the line everyday for strangers. It made me stop and think about first responders and the work they do. I would definitely recommend this book. I received an advance review copy of this book via Severn River Publishing and the author, and I am voluntarily leaving my review.

ATF agent Lexi Mills is drawn into a hostage situation in a small family run grocery store when explosives are discovered wired throughout the market. The situation becomes even more precarious when the mastermind pulling the strings turns out to be her former nemesis with untenable demands.
Great action story with very well defined characters and plot line.
The suspense builds as the plot unwinds and it becomes a rapid page turner.
The only less than riveting part for me were excessive personal sideline add ins which really were totally superfluous and a bit tedious.

Lexi Mills after the last case has been in spot light, one more event, and she is taking her lifepartner Nita along. Before the plane lands she is pulled aside as her help is needed at the grocery hostage situation, her presence is requested by the hostage taker.
The hostage situation is orchestrated by Belcher, he is out to destroy her, Lexi has her work cut out for here, thankfully Noah is around to have her back. Nita is getting a up close look at the danger Lexi puts herself in and is not sure if she can handle it.
Excellent read!

Talk about a bad day at the office!

Lexi, Noah and Nita. Three amazing characters that you can't help but to cheer, cry and root for. Their development both professionally and personally is as intriguing as the plot of this book. I read this book in 2 nights - only because my eyes were crossing and I didn't want to miss a single word of dialogue or action. This is a sensational book, well written and full of heart stopping action and intrigue. I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

Proximity (Lexi Mills Book 2), my seventh read from author Brian Christopher Shea and the second in the Lexi Mills ATF series. Outstanding fiction, well-written with characters & plot you can buy into with unexpected twists & turns. Those who like Lee Child's Jack Reacher will be drawn to Lexi Mills. I look forward to Proximity Impact (Lexi Mills Book 3), when it's published in March “I received a free Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

I enjoyed Proximity much more than the first book in the series. Lexy still seems to be like Wonder Woman but she is learning that she is a simple mortal and there will be lots to lose if she dies. This story is fast-paced, with relatable characters and situations (like the need for a mother to protect her child), and very entertaining. I'm looking forward to learning what will happen next!
I thank the authors and their publishers for the ARC.

4.5 stars

This was non-stop! It was just one dangerous task after the next for Lexi, and it's not over yet.

I really enjoyed the way this story unraveled. There was a lot going on, many moving parts, but the differing points of view with each chapter made this fun to read. It was interesting to see everyone's thought processes.

The story is not over, and I can't wait for more Lexi and Noah with the next book.

This second book in the Lexi Mills series is action packed. Lexi’s nemesis, Tony Belcher, is back and he’s out for revenge. He wants Lexi dead and she wants him behind bars. Lexi is racing against the clock to free a group of hostages before Belcher springs his explosive traps. This book is a fast paced, character driven read. The nonstop action ratchets up the tension and suspense until the end.

Totally predictable, no twist or turns, unlikely heroine, very poor and unbelievable plot …
… and an absolutely overpowering and totally unnecessary and irrelevant parallel story of the heroine’s lesbian love life: totally ruined even the one star I gave it. Why??
I suffered through two of these books but, no more.
Bye bye Mr Shea.

Lexi and Nita are heading to meet Noah for another award for the work they did on a previous mission they ended up working together on. But someone wants revenge on how they ruined his plans to take out the governor of Texas. Meanwhile Nita is struggling after being shot in a bar. Lexi tries to be there for her, but work gets in the way.

Number 2 is smarter, faster, deeper, more entertaining

Can't really ask more of a sequel. Deepening the primary relationship, adding more interesting characters and upping the brinkmanship of the lead character while staying true to previous form makes for a continuing story still harder to put down. Will I read #3 all in one sitting?
