To Every Young Woman Who Believes In Allah

Rate this book
The fourth volume of Imam al-Buti's pinnacle papers.

The woman’s covering…her freedom…her working…her these are the last cards that the professional agents of the ideological attack have left to play with as they try to drive the Muslim woman away from her religion, and then transform her into an effective weapon against Muslim youth to prevent them from establishing an Islamic society.

The book To Every Young Woman Who Believes in Allah was able to rip up these remaining cards and liberate the Muslim woman from the foolishness of frivolous people, the schemes of those who despise Islam, and the lies of those who slander it. Let everyone, near and far, be assured that the current Muslim drive towards the objective that Allah has commanded them to strive for will continue to move forward, rising above every base desire and being alert to every deceit.

First and foremost, May Allah forgive Imam Muhammad Said Ramadan al-Buti and accept all his attempts to spread and teach Islam to our modern ummah.

The title of the book attracted me the most when I first see it in Pesta Buku Antarabangsa Kuala Lumpur 2024, To Every Young Woman Who Believes In Allah.

As a Muslim woman who was born and raised in an Asian Muslim country, I find this book helps me a lot. Some of the content may bring up about Western ideologies, and to be honest the ideologies were slowly induced in our young generation.

To read this book, you must have a very open mind and heart. Some may find this book a little too harsh but to understand the true meaning of Islam, we have to remember not all that we want is aligned with our religion.

That is why, I would recommend this book to most of my sisters who claimed themselves as a feminist. Read this book and understand how and why our existence should follow our religious guide. Don't come to me and say "You don't know what is feminist." Sister, I have been there and I get lost too, but to attain Allah's mercy and follow the guide that has been taught by our Prophet SAW should be our priority and goal in this dunya.

And I can summarize, this book can be divided into three main points:

1) How a woman should bring herself into this world.
2) How this world is a test for women and men.
3) Itaqullah.

Point number three is the biggest point and message that has been written by our writer. He teaches and advises us, women, to always educate ourselves to keep our duty to Allah and fear Him.

And all our writer's advice is a reminder for us to reflect on our existence in this world, and even though this book title is mainly for women, I would also want to recommend this book to my guy friend. So when men read this book, they would build and show respect to the woman.

Islam is not for men only, it is for women too. It is for all of us.

To gain Allah's love is what we want at the end of our life, where and when we meet Him one day we have done our best to represent ourselves as His servant.

Our existence in this life is a matter of the utmost seriousness.

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem,

This is most definitely a book that is necessary for every Muslim (yes, that includes the men) to read given the social and political climate we are currently facing. The reason I say that men should also read this book, is because men need to be aware of the attack on Muslim women such that they are equipped to help the women in their lives make the best choices and be a good example for them. The content Sheikh al-Buti lays out throughout the book emphasizes how important and vital real men are to our community. Women need men, and men need women. It's important for both genders to understand the struggles of the other such that we can act as a shield to one another. The thoughts, feelings, beliefs and behaviours of Muslim men greatly affect the thoughts, feelings, beliefs, behaviours and sentiments of Muslim women. Ultimately, if Muslim men are asleep or misbehaving then it becomes enormously easier for Western imperialism to pull our sisters away from the straight path.

Sheikh al-Buti begins the book by outlining the importance of hijab and then describes the orientalist propaganda against Islam, more specifically Muslim women. He does an excellent job at displaying the evidences necessary to show the reader that the Western intellectual invasion is real, and it's still happening. I always find it refreshing when other Muslims create awareness to the seemingly less obvious maneuvers of the West.

Overall the book was very beneficial, however I rated it at 4 stars because I found that the way the Sheikh represented the fiqh on hijab to be one sided. Due to his explanation it is easy for the one who is familiar with Islamic movements to gauge which train of thought the Sheikh is approaching this topic with. For the sake of promoting unity amongst other Muslims I will omit any titles. My point is, when we write about fiqh in any text we must represent the fiqh fairly. It is not the job of any Muslim to market their opinion, it is our job to explain Islam as best as we can and clarify it to the people.

Sheikh al-Buti does an excellent job at tackling Feminism from a historical and more political perspective but it is imperative that we address the claims made by Feminists more directly. It is also important to note that the political issues regarding Muslim women even just a decade ago are different than today. As Muslims in Da'wah, we are required to constantly be aware of what is going on so we know how to tackle relevant issues. This is not meant to be taken as something negative, I truly believe the Sheikh did an excellent job presenting his points but this critique is made merely to emphasize how critical it is for more Muslims to continue to write about this topic! A Sheikh from Syria is going to approach this topic from his perspective, however, studied and Islamically sound Muslim women in the West are at a clear advantage to refute Feminist and Orientalist attacks on Muslim women. I say this because we (Muslim women living in the West) are the ones who experience this reality, we are the ones who live with non-Muslims and understand them. The same way Allah SWT sent a Prophet or Messenger from among their people to to every nation. We too as Du'at are best equipped to address the pains and struggles of those who are from our same or similar upbringing whether they are Muslim or not.

InshAllah this book serves as a good resource to every Muslim looking to expand their knowledge in this field, and I pray Allah SWT allows us to write our own works for His sake, for His cause ameen.

Intense and spiritually admonishing, should be read by women AND men

General structure of this treatise:
1) Rulings on the Woman's Covering:
The author calmly and critically elucidates the ruling on the woman's covering, presenting opinions, arguing for his position and explaining the divine wisdom behind such ruling

2) Confronting and deconstructing sophisms thrust forward by orientalists and liberalists towards modern Muslim minds:
This subject takes up the bulk of this treatise. The author talks about it so vehemently, so much so that reading this feels almost like a battlefield; with the author on one side and western orientalist, liberals and Muslim progressives on the author. The author did NOT pull any punches. The following excerpts shows this :-

'Dear reader, the one who has such an eloquent tongue that he can make you think that honey (which is the sweetest and most beneficial of gustatory delights that we know of) is something repugnant, disgusting and loathsome is definitely a master of eloquence and rhetoric, but there is no doubt that he is turning you away from the truth and towards the opposite.'

'I do not reckon that there is any subject matter that the misguiders throw all their weight behind, seeking to confuse the truth with falsehood and make it impossible to see the divine ruling therein, that is graver and more important than the subject matter of the women.'

Ill end this review with my favorite line by the Sheikh author:
'A young man [who is religious] like this views marriage the same way a fasting person views his iftar, he gathers for it all of his worldly hopes and makes it the pillar of all his happiness!'

« I, however, - by Allah - do not want to bear my sin and your sin on the Day of Standing!
I want you, with your uprightness upon the truth, to be a good deed on my scale, and I want to be, with the truth that I have reminded you of, a good deed on your scale. »

This final message of the author summarises perfectly the goals he wanted to achieve while writing this book.
If you are going to read this book, I hope you read it with an open heart and mind, knowing that the author is only advising you so you can be a better woman.

hehe, I gave 4 stars because when it comes to fiqh, it's quite normal for some teachers to be one-sided, but I wish I could find the fairer ones here.
