The Bluestocking Club #4
The Bluestocking's Rake
When an influential member of the ton gives you the cut direct, you have only one run far away and don’t look back…
Miss Serena Formby wants to do something extraordinary with her life, to experience the fire and adventure she longs for. That doesn’t encompass being discovered in the arms of a handsome rake by a leading patroness of Almack’s. With no choice but to flee the country, Serena hides her shame beneath a façade of outrageous behaviour.
Hamish Avril, future Baron of Kirkbride, had no intention of marrying; that would leave far too many women devastated in his wake. But that was before he meets the intriguing bluestocking and impulsively kisses her in Vauxhall Gardens. Serena rejects his offer of marriage out of hand, and takes herself off on a hastily arranged Grand Tour.
Hamish should feel nothing but relief; he should return home to the Scottish Highlands. Instead, he is careering across the Continent, chasing a woman who wants nothing to do with him.
Has the rake taken on more than he bargained for? Or is the bluestocking’s adventure just beginning…
This is the fourth book in the Bluestocking Club series. Each book can be read as a standalone, but characters do crossover.
The Bluestocking's Quest - Book 1
The Bluestocking's Fortune - Book 2
The Bluestocking's Highlander - Book 3
The Bluestocking's Rake - Book 4

About the author
Audrey Harrison
152 books134 followersAudrey Harrison was born about two hundred years too late. She wants to belong to a time when men were men and women were dressed in gowns and could float, simper and sigh.
In the real world she has always longed to write, writing a full manuscript when she was fourteen years old. Work, marriage and children got in the way as they do and it was only when an event at work landed her in hospital that she decided to take stock. One Voluntary Redundancy later, she found that the words and characters came to the forefront and the writing began in earnest.
Her ideal would be to write Regency Romances, but more modern characters are insisting on being heard, hence the release of’ ‘A Very Modern Lord’, a contemporary romance.
So, although at home more these days, the housework is still neglected and tea is still late on the table, but she has an understanding family, who usually shake their heads at her and sigh. That is a sign of understanding, isn’t it?

3.5 STARS
I've read book 3 and this one and it is a standalone with crossover characters. I felt some of the storylines needed to be flushed out more. You're giving some deals and then it drops. I wanted more info on the kiss they shared plus others but don't want to give spoilers.
The storyline isn't tidied up in a nice bow, so be warned. No cliffhanger for our MC, but you will want to know more about their future. Did Society welcome them back? Secondary characters do have a cliffhanger. They are on the run, and you aren't sure if they are successful in getting away until their story is told in the next book.
It will take you awhile to feel a connection to this couple. Romance is mostly on the back burner because they are apart of much of the story. Also, the h keeps turning down the H proposals. You finally learn why she feel like she does.
What raised my rating was the dialogue between the h and her father. I was so happy he didn't get away with how he treated the women in his life. Then another took her father to task and it was something I was screaming for!! Added a lot to the story that someone spoke honestly about someone's actions.
The scene with the Priest and our h wasn't according to the teachings of the Church. I hope the author doesn't go there in another story too.
No cheating by our MC, little on romance, great secondary characters, nasty villains, violence, some suspense and twists. Clean story with only a few kisses. (ljb)

Her Scottish Rake
I absolutely loved Serena and Hamish’s story. She’s a Bluestocking that loves to embroider and he’s an heir to a Barony in Scotland. But when these two are together they can’t help but wish. When they are caught kissing and Serena refusing to marry him, she is ruined and her family goes to Italy.
Hamish is hurt and relieved at the same time. He feels something for Serena but is not sure. He decides to follow her to Italy.
Serena is having an adventure in Italy after meeting Marco. She’s gambling, racing and making money through her reckless behavior. When Hamish shows up she refuses his marriage proposal again. When he is brutally attacked and left for dead, Serena wonders if it has something to do with her.
Ben, Serena’s cousin sends for Hamish’s brother James in case he dies. After more than three weeks unconscious he finally awakes but does not remember the attack. When Marco sees Serena again, he hints as he is the one that caused Hamish harm. When she lets the others know they decide to keep it from Hamish until he recovers more.
You have gambling, rakes, threats, kidnapping and so much more all wrapped up in a delicious story.

DNF at 34%. This book is ridiculous.
1: she can't marry him because she likes him too much
2: so she and her family go to Italy?
3: he likes her but she doesn't listen
4: of course she doesn't tell him how she feels
Then he's attacked by basically the Victorian Italian mob because she's winning money for someone else at cards and horse races. But alas, everyone has decided he's not allowed to know about who attacked him, which is completely stupid.
I have zero desire to know what else goes on in this book if they're all going to be idiots.

This is the story of how Serena and Hamish get together. They have met previously but are more in each other’s company since Alice and James married. Serena doesn’t like rakes including Hamish and she certainly doesn’t want to marry one. When Serena goes to Italy to escape gossip, she tries to reinvent herself, only to find herself in more trouble! A grand adventure is had by all!

The Bluestocking’s Rake
Audrey Harrison has done it again I throughly enjoyed this story as much as the other books in this series and I am looking forward to reading Florry’s story.

Serena, amiga de Alice y Hamish Avril (hermano de Cap Avril)
Este me gustó menos porque el personaje de Serena … no me convenció (hizo algunas cosas muy tontas)
Aunque al final se arregla un poco… un tres…

I liked this book but not as much as others. Lots of action and intrigue, but too much violence, I guess. It did keep me on tenterhooks at times waiting for plot elements to be resolved. I look forward to book 5 to see what happens between Florry and her pirate, Capt. Kelly.

Although this was a good book, it was lacking in the romance department for me unlike the others I've read in this series so far. The ending for Serena and Hamish is the most romantic part of their love story but not enough for 5 stars.

Great
I found this to be a very story. Full of intrigue, drama, action, suspense and deceit throughout the whole story.
