Chase the Northern Lights in your own backyard! Find out what it takes to view this rare natural phenomenon in the Great Lakes Region of the U.S. This guide caters to beginners with real advice for chasing in the mid-latitudes, which could include any location near or below the 45th Parallel. The advice is brought to you by the founder of the Michigan Aurora Chasers, which is a group of over 50,000 Aurora Chasers established in January 2021. Melissa F. Kaelin is a talented writer and community leader who has helped hundreds of people see the Northern Lights for the first time.
This was a good quick read for anyone beginning their journey in the chase. On one hand I did read the whole thing (it’s short) but on the other I didn’t have any new learning as someone whose taken some astronomy courses and been a part of her FB group for a while. I would however highly recommend it for some just getting into chasing northern lights as it answers all the most common questions (almost wish this was a required read to get into her Michigan Aurora Chasers FB page as newbies tend to ask these basics on the daily over and over). So kudos to Melissa for writing this beginners guide!
A great fast read with lots of tips on viewing the Northern Lights! Thank you Melissa for sharing your knowledge. I saw them for the first time last Thursday and a week later I'm still in awe and I have Melissa and the FB Group Michigan Aurora Chasers to thank! I've learned so much from the group and then to read this great guide added more knowledge! Planning my next outing - well at least as much as I can.
I love chasing night skies and northern lights and this book taught me a bit of the “why” behind the phenomenon. 4 stars vs 5 due to so many links to websites rather than giving me the information in the book. Good job, Melissa.
I picked this book because I just recently became interested on Lady Aurora to be part of two of my daughters interests. As a true beginner, this field guide was helpful and to the point.
