Rate this book
Kelsey Hart may have lost her bookstore, but she’s fighting back… even if that fight includes working as an escort. Go on a few dates. Rub elbows with the city’s rich and famous. Get paid. Easy, right? At least it is until she runs into Beau Valentine, a bully from her past. To make matters worse, he’s sexier than ever with that same lethal hunger in his eyes that makes her stomach flip.

Beau has a big dream in the making and a mountain of obstacles, including figuring out how to fund said dream. Running a ForFans channel helps, but it’s not enough. And if anyone finds out about his secret endeavor, his father will have his head… and his investors will disappear. Yet when he learns his high school crush is working as an escort, Beau comes up with a plan to keep her safe and benefit them both. Having a fake girlfriend keeps his father off his back and his secrets locked away for now.

But as the two become closer, Beau has to decide how honest he has to be, and Kelsey has to question if it’s possible he truly has changed.

I don't give a fuck who his father is or isn't. He's messing with my girl, and that means he's messing with me.

★ fake dating, high school friends to enemies to lovers, 18+ scenes ★

I loved the first book from the "something series" and when I first saw the description for this book I knew it would be good and it was!!

In "Something Secret" we follow the story of Kelsey (Marley's friend who had her bookstore closed in the first book) and Beau (Kelsey's ex-high school friend). I liked their chemistry so much!! And the parts when Kelsey was in control of him in bed 🥵.

It was once again, a very fast read and I love that about this series. You can get fully immersed in the story and read it in one sitting. Can't wait for more!

Thank you Jessica for providing me with an ARC :)

When I first read the blurb I immediately signed myself up because it sounded so good and interesting. It’s still a good story, but I’ll get to why I gave it 3 stars.

It was verrrry fast-paced. Everything happened so quickly, I had no image of what the characters looked like to be honest. Sometimes I even had trouble imagining the scenes which never happens with me.

It had so much more potential. Only if there was more detail and a good amount of time skips because 2-3 weeks with ‘that’ much drama and stuff going on isn’t realistic and fun to read about.

Like I said, so much potential was wasted especially between the couple. I had no connection with them whatsoever. And while this books talks about (TW) rape, I would have wanted to see the victim getting justice in the end.

Something Secret is the second installment in the Something Series Romances, and boy, are you in for a treat. Within this novel, we follow Kelsey Hart and Beau Valentine. From being friends freshman year to being taunted for the rest of her senior year, Kelsey has always wondered what happened to their relationship.
Now an adult and looking for a new way to make money, she stumbles across her childhood nemesis Beau, but Kelsey will soon discover not all of her memories are what truly happened. As their partnership blossoms, Kelsey is left to wonder what else Beau might be hiding from her, and I promise you, it's something big.

I absolutely loved the character building of Kelsey, from a shy timid girl who was unsure of herself to a strong willed woman who isn't afraid to stand up for herself of what is important to her. I think everything that Kelsey gets within this book is truly a show of how much she deserved to be happy. Throughout the book I found myself rooting for her and almost wanting to skip to read her POVs because I absolutely loved how she was written.

As far as Beau Valentine's character his honest to god swagger and playboy ability made him my all time favorite panty dropping casanova. The longer you got to know Beau the more you wished Kelsey would see his side and that he would come out with the truth, the growth of his character and overall golden retriever energy made him one of my favorite characters.

Thank you Jessica Brown for the amazing addition to this series, I can't wait to see what the rest of the something series romances has coming!

Tropes:

ARC Review in exchange for an honest review – Something Secret
Releases – 28 February 2023

Genre: Romance
Rating: 4/5 ⭐️
Recommended: Yes!

Book 2 in the Something Series, Something Secret tells the story of high school enemies Kelsey and Ryan meeting again in present day where sparks start flying after they decide to start fake dating!

I loved the main characters; Kelsey is a strong independent woman who has encountered her fair share of hardship, with Beau being a man of mystery and family issues with many layers to unravel.

I loved this pairs chemistry from the start; you could clearly tell they had a thing for each other from the get-go and their chemistry builds throughout making the spice level on point.

Overall, this is a sweet book with great characters, and I can’t wait to see what comes next in this series.

Read if you like…
- Enemies to lovers
- Great character banter
- Fake dating

This ARC popped up on Booksirens and when I read the blurb, I grabbed it.

Kelsey and Beau have a long history together that seems like a typical bully to lovers trope. But wait! Because not everything is as it seems. The connection between these two is addictive and steamy, and Kelsey's attitude is fun.

As this story developed, I became more engaged in the emotional journey of this couple, and the toxic people around them. Ooh, I really wanted to slap Hanna - hard!! (IYKYK, and probably agree!)

This read was smooth, emotionally compelling and easy to enjoy. I was not aware of this author before this one, but will certainly be reading more from her in the future.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksirens and voluntarily leave my review.

Omgggg, Idek where to start. This was such an amazing read and a soul-gripping one. I love Beauregard's nature, how he openly admitted his mistakes, how he willingly tried his level best to make things solid between himself and Kelsey. His nickname "Kelse" would be enough to make my heart melt. The emotion which caught me quite strongly was his pain. I felt it beyond measures and felt for him beyond anyone's imagination. His love, his actions, his anger....everything screamed for help, everything spoke volumes for how much he had already suffered and just wanted to be happy. It was so sad to see his own father not loving him the way he should have been loved. It is even sadder to see that same narcissist of a dad draining his wife so much as to not even allow her to speak lovingly with her own son. It boiled my blood to see him treat Beau like dirt and use him for his own benefit. Anger rushed within me to see him cheating on his own wife and still having the audacity to not only think, but to publicly bring his own son down due to all the twisted reasons he had in mind. My heart goes out for Beau's mum who had to endure so much of abuse which no one should, and had convinced herself enough that, 'I chose this path, let me deal with it.' She never let Beau deal with any of her problems and genuinely wanted to see her son happy.

It pained me to see money, fame, power and status easily winning against Beau. His own father preferred that over his own son, causing the whole family immense pain. The author portrayed his pain so beautifully well that people who have gone through it can actually feel it deep inside their bones. To see him walk away from the Gala was also quite understandable as sometimes, a person is just so damn tired and damn exhausted from being strong for so long that he/she finally snaps. And obviously, seeing Beau holding a halt to HIS dream but working his ass for for Hart's dream was enough to win my heart over and make me want a Beau for myself. It was so sweet and deeply touching to see him do anything for the woman he loved. He gave her power, a voice, and the energy and confidence to stand up and speak for herself. I deeply admired when he stood up for Kelsey not only in front of her parents, sister, ex-boyfriend or dad, but also in front of his own father. Where his father thought he could easily dictate his girlfriend and treat her like he treated his own wife, I was glad to see Kelsey taking a stand for herself and Beau actually defending her and supporting her. It was all so freaking beautiful.

As for Kelsey? Man, she won my heart. The first female character who seemed confident in her skin, who could stand up for herself, speak up when she was not comfortable and make her own life the way she wanted. I loved the part where she stopped caring what her family thinks of things that make her happy which was having a bookstore, I loved the fact how she refused to be her sister's maid of honor considering her sister's a bitc*, slept with Kelsey's boyfriend and is now also marrying the douchebag. I hate Hanna, not only for doing this, but then expecting her elder sister to leave her job and everything just to come and prepare the wedding. And still being thankless.

And Flynn? God, that mf. There are less 'socially acceptable' words to define him. And for Hanna to torment her sister for being happy with Beau, saying that she is just pretending because she can't get over Flynn, was also laughable. It was sad to see both parents of Kelsey never supporting her for who she is and what she likes. At least she is working and paying her own bills, Hanna was sleeping around with her elder sister's boyfriend, was doing no jobs and when she was a few days from getting married, she was hitting on Beau and seducing him. A sick pervert. And that Eric....oh my God. I am glad the girl decided to press charges as he was a sick man. A visually sick person.

The ending was a soul gripping one for how Beau apologises, how they both get back together and finally get engaged. A well deserving HEA. This couple had my whole heart, from standing beside each other to still supporting each other when they were mad. The deserved a very well deserving happy ending which the author most definitely gave.

This review should be enough to let you know that the AUTHOR OUT DID HERSELF!!!!! She did amazing and I truly truly loved it. Usually, very less books get a rating more than 4 from me, but this book certainly made it to the mark. One hundred damn percent. The emotions were properly displayed and enough to make me feel each and everything!

——

Beau might be complete asshole, but he’s a gorgeous complete asshole.

——

“My entire night was spent watching you to make sure you stayed safe. It’s why I brought you home.”

——

Flynn Hannigan happened, and suddenly you were no longer my Kelsey.

——

“I don’t want anyone else, Hart. You’re exactly the woman I need.”

——

“I’m in. One incredibly sexy boyfriend at your service.”

——

I never would’ve started dating Flynn had I known you wanted me.

——

“I don’t give a fuck who his father is or isn’t. He’s messing with my girl, and that means he’s messing with me.”

——

“Don’t look at her,” Beau demands, pulling Eric’s attention back. “Don’t talk to her. And don’t you dare fuckin’ go near her.”

——

I nod, but it isn’t a promise. Someone’s got to have her back, and I’m more than up for that job.

——

Then he catches my gaze and lowers himself slowly to the floor. I feel like a fucking queen with him kneeling before me.

——

I’ve wanted Kelsey Hart for too long. And now that I have her, I never want to let her go.

——

“No one’s ever been worthy enough to share this place with.”

——

“Screw them. They don’t know you well enough to have an opinion on what you should or shouldn’t be doing with your life.”

——

“And, Hart?” he murmurs. “You’ll be the one screaming my name later that night.”

——

“I don’t want you to go.”

——

Fear does strange things to people, you know.”

——

If I didn’t know any better, I’d be convinced I died.

——

Of wanting someone who didn’t necessarily want me.

——

“She’s gorgeous and far better a person than I deserve.”

——

“I’m not the kind of man to push away a wonderful woman once she’s on my arm,” Beau says. “Besides, she has a mind of her own. What kind of man would I be to try and control it?”

——

“You could’ve answered at least one of her calls, man. The girl loves you.”

——

“It’s been a hell of a week without you, Kelse.”

——

“It’s not about the deal, Kelse. It’s about you and me. If that means I put the nonprofit on hold for a little longer, I’m ok with that.”

——

We’re better than good, Beau.” I wink. “We’re in love.”

——

“You are my heart, Hart. You. I love you, Kelsey.”
“I love you, too,”

——

[The following has my heart. It happened when they fought.]

Beau’s pov:- (Kelsey screaming at him)

“You don’t get a say. You lost that chance when you kept me in the dark.”
“But-“ The door clicks shut behind her. “I love you.”

I’ve never been a big fan of the former bully plotline/trope, but this one wasn’t bad at all. There was also some miscommunication, which is my least favourite thing about romance books. However, this was not super focused on the miscommunication. It didn’t take the lead, so it didn’t bother me. Jessica Brown did a great job reintroducing the characters from Something Sweet and bringing a new lineup of characters to the Something Series.

My only real issue with this book was the Eric storyline. Without sharing too much and giving away spoilers, he was that stereotypical privileged, rich guy whose dad uses his money and influence to clean up all his messes. He doesn’t care who he hurts as long as he gets what he wants. His character just made me feel uncomfortable and angry. The way he spoke about women, the things he had done, his behaviour was just disgusting.

Other than that, I really enjoyed this story. Kelsey and Beau had a really great connection that you could feel though the story. They had a lot in common with their difficult family lives and struggled to be viewed as anything other than a disappointment to their families. The family drama in this is wild. Kelsey’s mom and sister and Beau’s dad were something else. The drama added that extra tension and hurtle to the story without being over the top and overpowering the story.

This was also…spicy! It is very graphic and descriptive, doesn’t leave much to the imagination at all.

So, overall, I really enjoyed this. I started off unsure. I wasn’t a huge fan of Beau or his friends and the Eric character kind of made it difficult to read, but as I got further in, the better it got and the more hooked I felt. The last 40% were extremely redeeming for the parts I didn’t like regarding Eric. It had that typical cozy, cheesy, romance feel to it that I love and I was very happy with it.

I recommend this if you like family drama storylines and spice!!

This is book 2 in a series but could be read as a standalone. If you read the first book they touched on the fact that Kelsey had lost her bookstore due to circumstances beyond her control. I already liked her and was interested in her story since she was introduced. In this book she's working at the coffee house to get by and save for another book store. At this point she discovers a site she can become an escort to earn money faster to reach that goal. Meanwhile, she's also dealing with her family that doesn't support her and with her sis that is get this-marrying her high school sweetheart! Beau has his own family issues and is working to free himself from his controlling and abusive father and open his own non-profit program. I'm sure its a double standard but Beau kinda grossed me out his whole business is sleeping with women and posting the videos online so he probably slept with hundreds of women. I know Kelsey signed up to be an escort too but her goal was just be be arm-candy for these guys at events not porn. Anyhow, this is how these two come back into each-others lives. They knew each-other from high school where Beau bullied her.

Overall, this is my favorite so far in the series. The characters are well-developed and relatable. The chemistry was off the charts and I felt that Beau redeemed himself by the end.

Thank you to Jessica & Book Sirens for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book was adorably sweet with some very suspenseful moments. It follows Kelsey and Beau as fate draws its line, reconnecting them after years of torment in high school. Will Kelsey forgive Beau? Will Beau prove his true intentions? Will their pasts interfere with their future?

I truly adored the character growth of Kelsey. From a quiet girl who was raised to know her place and be submissive, to a woman who knew her desires and stood up to those who got in the way.

Beau also had a lot of growing up to do but in a vastly different way. While his heart is in the right place he makes decisions that could risk everything.

I also enjoyed the heart-pounding moments of suspense. From the so-called "friend" that criminally oversteps, to the control freak families on both sides.

If I had to pick anything to improve on, I would've liked Beau to stand up to his father. Nonetheless, Kelsey putting him in his place was still satisfying.

I truly enjoyed the novel and read through it in a matter of hours. I could not put it down and was very happy with the ending. I look forward to reading more from this author!

Review:
This is book 2 in the Something series, I really enjoyed book 1 then read book 2 and loved it even more. This book is a lot different since there is more sexual content in it though it’s done very nicely. Beau sounds like a total jerk however he is such a sweetheart but only to Kelsey. She’s the one that got away back in high school and now she’s trying to work as an escort to make extra money for her dreams and goals for life. She runs into Beau when he appears at the bakery she works at then gets an invite with him friend to a fundraiser. Beau warns her to be careful with her date that he has other intentions but she’s worried she can’t believe him due to her past. Though she does have reason to think there is something being left out and finding out could mess up her future plans.

Ok I had a problem with this one, so be warned.

Kelsey meets her high school bully again, and after some situations they decide to start a fake relationship. We've heard it al before and it's almost always a recipe for the cutest romance novels. Which this one could have been included in, if not for a major issue.

In the past, the bully and two of his friends were present while another friend raped a girl. Now it IS shown that they were disgusted by it, but not badly enough to do something about it. They actually kept the friendship going. Why you might ask? They were afraid for their own reputations because the guy could 'take them down with him'.

The story might redeem itself if the raper got what he deserved in the end, but he only got a tongue lashing from Kelsey and her friend never to be mentioned again.

Besides that, I wasn't too fond of some other of the choices the author made (the MC going no contact after they were both publically shamed because of HIM for instance) so I probably won't be reading any other of their books.

What a cute story! I love a dual point of view book. It was clear at the beginning of each chapter whose perspective it was going to be from. That’s something that can get very confusing when writing in the first person.
Two reasons I took two stars off:
1. ForFans is supposed to be like OnlyFans I feel, and if you read the book 10 years later you might be like “why is this even relevant.”
2. The story was great but some of the writing itself was boring during action scenes (like picking out baked goods, picking out clothes). Maybe less words next time when writing those scenes.
Overall this was a fun read, I’ll go back and try the Christmas one sometime was well.

This is a wonderful book! Beau and Kelsey were enemies in high school, and it isn't going to be easy to change her opinion of him. Now they have a fake relationship that will benefit both of them. They're great together - hot, cute, flirty. He has a secret, though, and it might be a deal breaker for both Kelsey and the investors in his new venture. Kelsey's family - Holy crap! What a bunch of mean-spirited, self-centered idiots. Beau's mother is timid, having spent a lifetime being bullied by his father, but she's a very sweet woman. His father is a two-timing hypocritical politician, and gets his way in life by bullying those he purports to love. I just loved reading their story. I would just like to say a big thank you to the author and BookSirens who very kindly forwarded me an arc copy of this book, for my kindle, in return for my honest review.

Ever since i read the first book in this series (and absolutely loving it so much that i also bought a paperback copy!!) I have been waiting for the next book to read - and trust me when i say that it was well worth the wait!

We met Kelsey in book one when she helped out Marley in the bakery and this is her wonderful story. I loved the two main characters names - Kelsey Hart and Beau Valentine - sooo romantic!

I loved the story and how it all comes together at the end and we even get an epilogue too - which was perfect.

Something Secret was a wonderful, heartwarming, romantic, spicy read and I’m definitely coming back for more! I cannot wait for the third book in the series now…….

Beau and Kelsey used to be friends in high school, until one day Beau starts pulling pranks on her and makes her life a living hell.
Now, she goes on a date with the wrong guy, but Beau is the one to save her. She has every right to be suspicious, he’s still the same bully as he used to be, isn’t he? But then he proposes a fake relationship. In return, he will help her get back her own bookstore. But it is not that fake….
This was my first book by Jessica Brown, and I had such a fun time reading it. Both are wounded souls, hurt by their family. And they learn pretty quickly they have much more in common than they think. With the deal they made, they can rely on having each other’s back.

I think these are great, quick reads for people who don't have the time to invest in a book. Great for a weekend away or a rainy day.

I love that they have the perfect mix of character interaction and development with spice.

My only criticism is, aside from wanting more pages, is that I felt like a little bit of the plot was *no spoilers* unresolved/too easily resolved.

I will happily continue watching this series though.

A love story with a difference. Strong characters with a few surprises up their sleeves. The history between the characters creates a depth in their relationship that fits perfectly with the fast pace. Love the characters and all the situations surrounding them. Couldn’t stop reading.

A few descriptive words that I didn’t like so much but the rest of the story was beautifully written.

Kelsey and Beau --- oh what a sweet story… This fake dating, second chance love story is so sweet, spicy, funny and touching all in one breath. I love how Kelsey is such a strong, sassy, smart bookworm and yet she stands out among the typical FMC I read. I love that! I love how this story snuck up on me a bit like vines and flowers. It's gorgeous and I want more of this world!!

I recommend this book if you like second chance lovers, enemies to lovers or fake dating. ♥️

This had fake dating, second chance, enemies to lovers all wrapped up into one.

Beau and Kelsey’s chemistry came right off the page, loved their connection.

This was a an easy, quick read. Had good banter, good story, and some spice mixed in.

The family of Kelsey I felt were a little too out there in their disapproval of Kelsey but loved a protective Beau.

Another book in the Secret series, and another win. I loved the premise of this book, the friends-to-enemies-to-lovers of it all, and most importantly, the inclusion of my favorite Something Sweet Characters. It’s for sure wish-fulfillment and not entirely plausible, but sometimes that’s exactly what you need in a book!
I love Jessica and her writing style, as well as this series as a whole!

Something Secret is Book 2 of the Something Series by Jessica Brown. The author truly knows how to bring the MCs to life and makes you keep turning the pages to find out how it ends. Beau and Kelsey are the MCs in this book. It is a wonderful second chance love story. All the family problems that they face makes for some interesting storyline. I highly recommend this book to all romance readers.

This was a good second book in the series, even though it works as a standalone. I thought the families of both main characters were a little too stereotypical as bad families go and I was hoping for Kelsey to fight back a little more. Some of it was a little predictable but I still enjoyed the story.

Just had to grab this book on BookSirens, the blurb immediately drew me in. Enemies to Lovers, Fake Dating trope, some banter. I loved Kelsey and her quick witted remarks. At times it did feel a little stereotypical and I was hoping for Kelsey to stand up for herself a little stronger with her family. Beau too actually. Overall it was a quick read and I liked it.
