When I read this book, it was also listed as MCIO P1550.14D and was published 1 August 1983. I also read the Guidebook for Marines/fourteenth revised edition second printing published 1 July 1981. These books have history, basic outdoor survival, first aid, land navigation, and the most important teachings, HOW TO BE A LEADER! These are a MUST read for every Marine!

Look, U.S. Department of Defense clearly has a lot to say in U.S. Marine Guidebook of Essential Subjects, and honestly, some of it should've been cut. The best chapters are sharp enough to cut glass. The worst ones feel like a blog post that wouldn't end. Great for fans of big ideas, frustrating for anyone who values a tight edit.
