Unlock the secret of the gold dragon...When the blue dragon Lazuli threatens to destroy Sandon's village of Hartfall, Sandon vows to locate the legendary gold dragon, once Hartfall's sworn protector, and convince it to return. Sandon finds the gold dragon's lair--only to stumble on a secret that throws everything he thought he knew about his home and his family into question. Filled with everything readers love about dragons--power, action, and intrigue--this tale shows what one boy can accomplish when he finds the strength of a dragon lies within himself. This next installment of the series inspired by The New York Times best-seller A Practical Guide to Dragons shows just how much a young boy can do when he realizes that the strength of a gold dragon may lie inside himself.

Actual rating is 3.5 stars.

This is the final book of this series that is part of the Dragonlance realm. Each book is a stand alone novel and concentrates on a different type of dragon. This series is meant for the younger generation but they are a nice quick read for everyone. In this one, a small village is being terrorized by a blue dragon. What makes this situation worse is that this village was once protected by a gold dragon but no one knows what happened to him.

This was one of the better ones in this series and was a nice way to end this series. It had a whodunit vibe as we knew there was someone working with the dragon but not sure which character it was. I enjoyed all the characters and this book fits in with this realm (there is one exception that really doesn't affect anything). The twist near the end caught me by surprise and did give me the "feels".

I enjoyed this book and I enjoyed this series overall. This series was a pleasant surprise as this isn't the most known series from this world. I wish they finished it as all the different types of dragons were not covered before they called it quits.

This book made me realize that I've grown apart from the genre "classic fantasy where young boy meets mysterious man and then goes on to save the day". It followed the mold and was very predictable: I figured out where it was going to end before halfway through.

It is very bad at representation; There are only three named women; one is dead, one is evil (this book only deals with black and white, no gray) and one is a housekeeper/cook I think and does not matter to the story. I did not notice any other kind of representation.

The language is flat and boring with more "tell" than "show". Though it is very easy to read and that was the only thing that made me finish reading the book.

(I'm not part of the target audience for this book, but I usually like MG/YA books, though not this one)

Gold Dragon Codex is the type of story I absolutely enjoy. It reads like an old-time tale of the west. . . the type Louis L'Amour would write if he were still alive. Let me tell you what I mean by this. In this story, a town is being terrorized by a bully (in this case a draconian and a blue dragon). A wandering gunslinger appears and decides to help out the beleaguered town (Kine is a warrior that fought in the War of the Rose). In the end, the town is saved and everyone lives happily ever after (well . . . I'm not going to tell you if this happens or not, you will have to read this book to find out yourself).

I have read a lot of books in the DragonLance, a Dungeons & Dragons world. Gold Dragon Codex ties in nicely with other books in this world and has a lot of references to things that have occurred in the Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman books (the creators of DragonLance). I enjoyed all of the little references that were given. Does it matter if you haven't read any other DragonLance books? No, these little references don't mean anything in the scheme of this story. I just found it nice that they were there for a little added bonus.

Ree Soesbee, oops . . . I mean R.D. Henham, has created a wonderfully entertaining fantasy tale in Gold Dragon Code. The characters were well-developed and very believable. The storyline is fun and full of action and suspense. The bad guys were nasty and deplorable, just like they should be. Nobody wants a wishy-washy villain. What more can you ask for? Nothing.

Unfortunately, I figured out some of what was going to happen about a third of the way through the book. The good news is that I was quite shocked and surprised by many other things that occurred. So, figuring out one little thing wasn't such a big deal after all.

Overall, Gold Dragon Codex is an excellent story and I had an absolute blast reading it. It is the kind of fantasy tale I love to read. Right from the first chapter I knew that it was going to be a pleasure reading this book. Because of this, I am excited to read the first six books in the Dragon Codex series, which I haven't read yet. I cannot wait to get my hands on those. I'll bet that they are just as good as this one.

So, go out and buy a copy of Gold Dragon Codex and let yourself be taken away to a world where dragons are real and aren't all nice.

I rated this book a 9 out of 10.

This was a much better volume in the series. Following a young prince as he tries to save his father and the people they rule, Sandon tries to understand why his father is so willing to pay tribute to the evil Blue Dragon and exactly who did murder his mother. When a mysterious stranger visits the manor, Sandon tries to decide if the stranger is a help or a threat to his quest. A very nice story that involves mystery, adventure and a little humor. A nice dragon story for anyone who enjoys that genre.

Gold Dragon Codex was a very enjoyable fantasy book. I am a fan of the Dragon Codex books and so far this one is my favorite. This novel is about a city in danger to an evil Blue Dragon, and the baron's son, Sandon, sets out to save his hometown by calling on the mysterious Gold Dragon, who may or may not be real, with the help of a visitor called Kine.

A bit rough around the edges with the way it was written, but it had a fairly good plot and characters.

A fun easy read. The only problem is the wish the characters stories continued from one book to the next.
