"Return the Ring within 48 hours or you won't have anywhere to wear it."
With the threat from her former fiancé Trevor Price ringing in her ears, which Abby Caldwell is quite sure he'll carry out, she sets off to get it back.
Only that means taking a trip to out to Devil's Island, the place where the whole mess started and the ring is now buried.
Abby joins a family a family who have hired a boat to take them to the island. She recognises Scott - the guy she had a crush on in college - who has joined his mother and stepfather for the day.
Then things go dreadfully wrong.
I really enjoyed this fast-paced, action filled story; with undercurrents of faith, love and trust.

I read Troubled Waters first and it is the 2nd book to this one. They were both excellent.
Taking place in Bayfield, Wisconsin around the Apostle Islands.
Abby Caldwell needs to go get a ring she buried on Devils Island 5 years ago. After Trevor Price appeared on her doorstep and threatened her if she did not return it.
She is able to get a ride there with a family of 3 heading there. She remembered Scott Frasier from when she was a freshman in college. She is surprised that he also remembers her. His mom and step dad are the other people on the boat.
After Captain Sal takes off without his passengers Scott and Abby set out to find help. They find power off and wires have been cut. After finding an old canoe they take their chances against Lake Superior and need to get to an Island 2 miles away.
The story only gets more perilous as does their adventure to safety and love.

And it soon becomes apparent that someone doesn’t want her to be found—or to leave Devil’s Island alive.
SURVIVAL INSTINCT is the first book I’ve read by Rachel McCalla, but it won’t be the last. This author has breathed fresh live into this genre, and I couldn’t put this book down. I enjoyed seeing Devil’s Island, a real life part of the Apostle Islands on Lake Superior.
Abby and Scott were both realistic characters, and Scott’s mother is a real trooper, I couldn’t help but fall in love with her. I enjoyed reading this family’s adventure, and can’t wait to read more books set in and around Devil’s Island. This is one of the best Love Inspired Suspense I’ve read this year. Discussion questions are included at the end of the book. $5.50. 212 pages.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book Scott & Abby’s love surfaced despite their trust issues. Scott was able to overcome his fear of getting close to people and losing them through trusting God. I am looking forward to more of Rachelle McCalla’s books and learning more about Devil’s Island, definitely an interesting place.
