This book was an interesting and useful read as I prepared for my first ever trip to Israel. Not being Jewish, I knew very little about Israeli life and culture, so I wanted a travel book that could educate me a bit before I flew into Tel Aviv. This book did the trick. Though I could have done without some of the chapters (e.g. those on the media and on doing business) others were quite engaging (e.g. those on immigration and on kibbutz life). The writing is uneven, but this is not unusual for travel books. All in all, I would recommend this book to any non-Jewish traveler to Israel.

Published over 20 years ago, this book on Israel is obviously going to be out of date in some areas, but I bought it anyway as I thought this in itself might provide an interesting perspective.
