The Shattered Stars is the first book in the Far Stars and Future Times series by Richard S. McEnroe. It is an old-fashioned space opera but unfortunately there's nothing very original in the novel's components. The characters all have too many personal problems and too much supporting material is unexplained. Many of the reviews were positive but I just didn't enjoy it. I have no intention of reading the rest of this series. I probably wouldn't have finished this book except it was very short, coming in at 182 pages.
Better than expected! Probably too much exposition with regards to certain characters and at times I found that action sequences were confusing and difficult to follow. However it was certainly an enjoyable, short read with unique elements and unpredictable plot developments.
There’s nothing really of note in here. Some cool ideas to steal but the plotting and character work is too old fashioned to be worth talking about. Not sure why I keep reading old sci fi when I typically don’t like it very much.
