Plot Twist

Julie Cromwell is a selfish, manipulative, insecure woman, and those are her best qualities. She sets up a fake kidnapping to see if her husband will pay a million dollars for her safe return. Something goes wrong and she winds up dead. This is the first plot twist, but certainly not the last. Enter lead detective Karl Larkin and his partner, Ted Cramer. They are a team who refuses to let sleeping dogs lie. They begin rattling the skeletons in the family's closets. Larkin finds himself breaking one of his number one rules. You don't get involved with the family you are investigating, and you never, never fall in love with your prime suspect.

Donna J. Thompson is a reader turned writer. She believes that everyone has a story and her observation of people helps her to write about complex characters, and make them come to life.

Donna is a mother and grndmother to a blended family. She has been writing since she was a child, but she never tried to have anything published until lately because she never felt she was good enough. She is a graduate of Winghill Writing School.

In grade school her favorite time of day was when her teacher got out her big book of Grimm's fairy tales and read her class a story. In high school her love of reading turned into a love for writing and she has been writing ever since.

Donna lives in a small town in Ohio, and is most comfortable writing about living in places that makes one think of Mayberry USA. She and her Veteran husband and two cats, pretty and midnight, live just outside the city limits.

Julie Cromwell fakes her kidnapping to see if her husband loves her enough to pay the $1 mil in ransom. So boring I forgot how it ended.

I was given this book to read by the authors son. I was thoroughly impressed. The title of this book could not be more perfect. I cannot wait to read more from this author!

Great Read

Tight plot until the end. Whodunnit held tight and great anticipation. This tale of abuse, deception, greed, murder, romance and police integrity is a fine one!
