(Malayalam: പി. പത്മരാജന്‍; 23 May 1946 – 24 January 1991) was an Indian author, screenwriter, and film director who was known for his landmark works in Malayalam literature and Malayalam cinema. Padmarajan was the founder of a new school of film making in Malayalam, along with Bharathan, in the 1980s, which created films that were widely received while also being critically acclaimed.

Padmarajan was noted for his fine and detailed screenwriting and expressive direction style. Padmarajan made some of the landmark motion pictures in Malayalam cinema, including masterpieces like Oridathoru Phayalvaan (1981), Koodevide (1983), Arappatta Kettiya Gramathil (1986), Namukku Parkkan Munthiri Thoppukal (1986), Thoovanathumbikal (1987), Moonnam Pakkam (1988), Innale (1989) and Njan Gandharvan (1991).

മനുഷ്യമനസ്സിന്റെ സങ്കീർണ്ണതകളിലേക്ക് ആഴത്തിൽ ഇറങ്ങി ചെല്ലുന്ന നോവൽ. പരമേശ്വരൻ നായരുമായി ജീവിക്കുമ്പോൾ അശ്വതിക്ക് കേശവൻ നായരുമായി അടുപ്പം ഉണ്ടാവുകയും അയാളോടൊപ്പം മറ്റൊരു ജീവിതം ആരംഭിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. എന്നാൽ അത് അവിടം കൊണ്ടും അവസാനിച്ചില്ല. സദാശിവൻ പിള്ളയും അശ്വതിയുടെ ഭർത്താവ് ആകുന്നു. അശ്വതിയിൽ മാത്രം കഥ ഒതുങ്ങി നിൽക്കാതെ കേശവൻ നായരിലേക്കും അയാളുടെ ഭാര്യയായ മാലതിയിലേക്കും കടന്ന് അവസാനം അവളുടെ അനിയത്തിയായ സരസ്വതിയിൽ എത്തുന്നു.

Padmarajan is fire ,pure and unadulterated. He just burns his way through all the muck and what remains will be the pure ash of reason , insanity or altered perception or whatever.He is such a supreme writer and the way he depicts his characters is so intense .He is akin to Dostoevsky in the human mind department I would say.If you can understand the Malayalam language don't miss padmarajan,he is simply world class.

"ഭൂതകാലത്തിന്റെ നരച്ച നിറങ്ങളുടെ ചീളുകൾ എന്നിൽനിന്നും പൊളിഞ്ഞുമാറിയിരിക്കുന്നു. പുതിയ നിറംകാത്തുനിൽക്കുന്ന നഗ്നമായ കടൽഭിത്തിപോലെ, പുതിയ ഒഴുക്കുകൽക്കുവേണ്ടി ഞാൻ തപസ്സിരിക്കുന്നു." - Padmarajan at his best, but one too many characters spoils the plot.
