In more than 500 questions and answers from science and technology, this richly illustrated volumen presents everying worth knowing about the history & the current state of knowledge of biology, physics, chemistry & earth science, as wel as about current research & development in the fields of transport & space travel, medical and information technology.
This superbly illustrated volume, based upon the question-and-answer principle, should help to fill in knowledge gaps, to brush up on and augment existing understanding, to find out something new, and to make the structure of a world that is daily becoming ever more complicated more accessible.
This is from the introduction of this book and is more or less its premise. I'd been meaning to read this for a few years, but kept putting it off. Now that I've finally gotten around to it, I can say with certainty that I wish I’d done so sooner.
The main topics covered are:
- Physics - Chemistry - Biology - Medical Technology - Earth Science - Transport & Space Travel - Information Technology
The book is in Q&A format, which is pretty awesome if you're lazy or busy. Don't feel guilty, you can read this like you eat trail mix, or like your average Christian reads The Bible: by picking out the parts you like.
Not all the questions are going to interest everyone, but that's fine. This book caters to everyone.
The questions aren't cumulative, so sometimes they seemed a little random and I had no clue about what was being discussed. I didn't mind this very much because it was interesting anyway. Last time I checked, this is why we have Google. Except for the chemistry and physics chapters, which were both written by one author, each of the chapters are written by different experts in the fields. Together they answered over 500 questions to make this delightful book. There are also lots of photographs and charts, which made reading it all the more enjoyable.
