Though we often spend years preparing to enter the temple, we all know that there are times when temple worship can seem confusing, repetitive, or even boring. In this remarkable volume, Mark Shields, an experienced gospel teacher, casts new light on the symbolism inherent in temple ordinances and provides a wealth of insights that will change the way you worship. Whether you've been attending the temple for years or are preparing to enter for the first time, you will learn to love the temple, understand its purposes, and appreciate the rich symbolism it embodies. Your Endowment is a must-read for anyone looking to get more from temple worship.
I found this book to be very insightful and informative. It helped me to view the temple and the symbolism there in new light. I appreciated that Shields pulls information from scripture, and current leaders of the church. I feel he does a good job of summarizing some of the concepts that we may not have explored in our studies to better understand the temple.
I highly recommend this to anyone looking to understand the temple in a new and inspired way.
This book is for anyone who is preparing to enter the temple, or for anyone who is, like I was, a bit overwhelmed by the endowment process. It walks you very clearly through what to expect in the temple by pulling from scripture, past prophets, and current prophets. It compares ancient temple rituals to those of modern times. It shows Jesus Christ's role in it all—the temple, our lives, etc. I recommend it, and I will probably read it again and again as I continue to go to the temple.
I'd give this more than 5 stars if that were possible. I have read many of the temple books in this book's bibliography and am grateful to now have this easy to read summary of the best and most important things to know about the temple. This is the book I have been looking for. Read it. Love it.
There's so much to learn about the temple that sometimes I don't know where to start. This book was a short, straightforward read that was so informative and enlightening. I learned a lot and feel I have new tools to help me understand the temple through scripture study, the sacrament, and temple worship. This will definitely be a book I refer to, reread, and recommend to others.
wow...blew me away...I've read several temple books. I place this one at the top. a must study book. note I didn't say a must read book. this is steak and takes time to digest, bit oh how worth it.
I am one who struggles with symbolism. I take things very literally. This book helped me to understand some things that I hadn’t seen before. The author laid things out simply and plainly to help increase my understanding
The beginning of this book is amazing. Five stars. Lost some steam and my attention towards the end. I just really loved the insights about Adam and Eve and the Garden. Super cool while coming away with insights I’d never thought of before. Definitely worth reading!
This is the book I've been looking for. I have such a hard time thinking symbolically because my brain is very literal. It's made English classes and scripture study difficult, and it also makes it hard for me to find deeper meaning in the temple. I've checked out several books about temples, but they mostly talk about the blessings of temple worship. I understand that it's difficult to write about this topic as so much in the temple is sacred and can't be discussed outside the temple. However, this book goes deeply into the symbolism of things that are ok to talk about, which brought me greater understanding and helped me understand what to look for symbol-wise in the temple and helped me see another way to look at things that will hopefully lead to some insights of my own. It also suggests scriptures to study to increase your insights. Just what I need!
I enjoyed reading Your Endowment. It has many useful insights that are helping me appreciate my temple experience and also enlightening my study of the scriptures. I appreciated the careful, respectful approach to sacred things. This is a great book for someone preparing to go to the temple and can compliment the LDS church's Temple Preparation manual, Endowed from on High. I appreciate that Your Endowment is carefully built on a foundation that includes the scriptures and the words of prophets.
This took me a long time to read because I needed to study and ponder. It is very deep but meaningful information. I know that I have more work to do to understand the symbols in the scriptures as well as the temple. This book gives a guide to helping understand the symbols but it does require the individual to put forth effort. I recommend this book to all who are working on understanding symbols better. I have been searching for books with this theme - I liked this one.
This book answered questions I didn't know I had about the whole experience. For years I have avoided books like this because the experience in the temple is so sacred but I thought I would give this a shot. It is well based in scriptures and references General Authorities since the Restoration. It was simple and focused on Christ through Adam and Eve's journey in the plan of salvation.
Increased my understanding of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints
This book made clearer the things done in the temple. I liked the comparisons to the ancient temples. Fascinating book and one every soon to be endowed Church member should read as well as those who have attended the temple for years. Armed with this knowledge I will get more out of my temple worship.
This book is exactly what I was looking for - a book about temple worship that was instructive rather than testimonial. The author does an exceptional job of enlightening the reader about the symbols of the temple in a way that made me want to go to the temple more often to learn more. I completely enjoyed this book and feel that it added a lot to my understanding. Would definitely recommend.
In this book you will learn facts about the temple that I did not know before. it will help you understand more about the temple experience. I enjoyed this book. and I am sure you will too.
I found this book to be very helpful in enhancing my temple experience. I loved the explanations and definitions. I would recommend this book to anyone whether it's going through for the first time or you just want to get more out of your experience.
Great book. It gave me so much to think about and I am anxious for my next visit to the temple to see how this new knowledge increases my understanding (the chapter on understanding the words was so helpful for me).
This book describes the importance of symbolism in the temple. It is well written with great references to the scriptures. This is a great book for anyone wanting to deepen their understanding of temple worship. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.
One of the better books I've read on the endowment. Great book for someone wanting to know more about the endowment, in a easy to read way! I certianly learned a thing or two that I had not known before.
What. Just. Happened. How did I never get this before? Written so plainly, yet keeping the sacred sacred. I feel like I need to sit in the temple parking lot and read the chapter summaries, then bolt inside while it's still fresh. This is a must read, must study, must reread.
This book helps one learn the meaning of temples and why we need to learn those meanings. At the end of the chapters are short paragraphs to explain further regarding was written. Recommend reading for all.
This was a very good book! It helped me understand my endowment so much more! It helped me see exactly how it all points to Jesus Christ. Loved it. Highly recommend to all temple going Latter-Day Saints.
I'm so glad I got to read this book! I would recommend it to anyone that is going to the temple for the first time or someone that has been numerous times!
I loved this book so much that I read it three times and will probably read it three more! I understand so much more about the temple than I ever have before.
