Rate this book

This is a story about life.

Life rarely offers people healing. More often, it just goes on — leaving behind pain, lies, and memories from which we have to piece together whatever semblance of warmth we can.

The story of Mii-kun and Maa-chan is exactly about this. There is no escape from the childhood trauma in their present and future. The past hasn’t disappeared and still remains a part of their lives. But instead of waiting for an impossible salvation, they simply accept their own abnormality.

By the end of the story, Mii-kun's lies stop being just a way to survive. They become part of the reality on which their world is built. Understanding this, Mii-kun continues to lie in order to preserve a space where the cold truth is rejected, and Maa-chan continues to cling to the warm illusion of happiness — happiness built on lies.

Their relationship is hard to call beautiful. It is not pure and innocent love. It is a connection between two people whom life has long pushed beyond the boundaries of normalcy.

But perhaps that’s exactly why it feels so real.

There is no healing at the end. There are just two people who stay close and keep on living.

And sometimes, that’s enough.
