In a world where it seems like “everybody’s doing it” how do you help students say no to premarital sex? Lakita Garth tells you how! As an internationally known abstinence advocate and sought-after speaker, she talks to more than 500,000 students a year about abstinence and sexuality. Here, she frankly, humorously and passionately shares her principles with teens for staying pure until marriage, while equipping them with the life skills necessary to be responsible and successful. Through her four-phase Decision Making Model, young people will understand the principles of self-control, self-discipline, delayed gratification and achieving their dreams. They’ll be ready to establish healthy dating relationships and clearly defined boundaries for physical intimacy, while understanding and valuing marriage. The eight-session companion DVD, a leader’s guide and student guides will make this resource perfect for small-group use.
I reviewed the book, Leader's Guide, Student Guide and DVD. Although you don't need all the material I would strongly suggest that you get it all.
Lakita Garth is very open and forthright as she discusses the dangers of sex outside of marriage. I will be honest in saying that this author cuts no corners and makes no excuses when dealing with this subject. In fact some of it is very much "in your face" and to the point. However, I think that this may be a good approach to take with teens today. So many have been left on their own to decide what to do and how to do it. So many are absolutely unguided. This book is direct enough to demand a teens attention and honest enough to make them stop and listen.
Today's teens do not want a rosy picture - they want the truth. They want and need the tools to make right decisions and know that these decisions will be for the best.
I really wanted to hear about it and was listening to the CD by Ton3x called "the Naked Truth" that caught my eye.
(Feb. 15, 2012): I didn't realize I read this book before since I am doing a show this Saturday, Adrienna Turner Show, on Sexual Purity after seeing her over a week ago on 700 CLUB (which now she is married with a child). This time around, I am not really feeling this book, would be a 1.5/2 stars. I am trying to understand how the first chapter refers to Sexual Purity, but it shares how a single mother didn't take no mess in the urban neighborhood and others who appeared to the superstars turned out to be dope dealers or users.
I read this book as research for a project we are planning with our youth group about abstinence before marriage and was pleasantly surprised. The book is not only informative but an interesting read full of anecdotes and testimonies that will enhance our group much more than merely th efacts would. If you are a teen or young adult or the parent of one get this book you won't be sorry.
