I read this as an example of translated Nordic Noir crime fiction. It aptly demonstrates the interest in crime arising from growing affluence, lifestyle pressure and the testing of values. The narrative closely follows the thought processes, decisions and emotions of a man whose spur of the moment decision in a bar leads to an accident. It is a plausible narrative that induces understanding - but leaves the moral questions unanswered.

I am not a fan of Noir crime - but this is a worthy example.

I read the English translation, One Down. I really liked his "Think of a Number," but not this one as much.

splendid story, must reread. Remember feeling guilty as an accomplice to the main character
