I feel guilty giving this book only two stars. For a different person, this book could be revolutionary, special, helpful, educational, etc. The stories are nice and I support and appreciate every contributor. My issue is with the formulaic way each piece is written: I was born here, my teenage years were hard, started to transition, now I feel secure in myself, the end. I would have preferred a variety of essay types or formats for the contributions. I enjoyed Kate Bornstein's Gender Outlaws more than Finding the Real Me for that reason.

I read this for an essay on transgendered people in social work...
I really liked the things I learned from it. Since it's composed of short stories, and I'm a busy person, I didn't fully finish it. But I learned a lot nevertheless.
Must read (or similar subject matter) for all humans.

i'm a little biased over this work because it is extremely personal to me but i would suggest giving it a try - the tales are beautiful
