About the author

Keiji Nakazawa (中沢啓治; Nakazawa Keiji) was born in Hiroshima and was in the city when it was destroyed by an atomic bomb in 1945. All of his family members who had not evacuated died as a result of the explosion after they became trapped under the debris of their house, except for his mother, as well as an infant sister who died several weeks afterward. In 1961, Nakazawa moved to Tokyo to become a full-time cartoonist, and produced short pieces for manga anthologies such as Shōnen Gaho, Shōnen King, and Bokura.
Following the death of his mother in 1966, Nakazawa returned to his memories of the destruction of Hiroshima and began to express them in his stories. Kuroi Ame ni Utarete (Struck by Black Rain), the first of a series of five books, was a fictional story of Hiroshima survivors involved in the postwar black market. Nakazawa chose to portray his own experience directly in the 1972 story Ore wa Mita, published in Monthly Shōnen Jump. The story was translated into English and published as a one-shot comic book by Educomics as I Saw It.
Immediately after completing I Saw It, Nakazawa began his major work, Hadashi no Gen (Barefoot Gen).This series, which eventually filled ten volumes, was based on the same events as I Saw It but fictionalized, with the young Gen as a stand-in for the author. Barefoot Gen depicted the bombing and its aftermath in graphic detail, with Gen's experiences being even more harrowing than Nakazawa's own. It also turned a critical eye on the militarization of Japanese society during World War II and on the sometimes abusive dynamics of the traditional family. Barefoot Gen was adapted into two animated films and a live action TV drama.
Nakazawa announced his retirement in September 2009, citing deteriorating diabetes and cataract conditions.He cancelled plans for a Barefoot Gen sequel. In September 2010, Nakazawa was diagnosed with lung cancer and in July 2011, metastasis from lung cancer was found. He died on December 19, 2012.

Hiroshima is beautiful in the night lights.

Nobody died! That's insane for this series, the old man who the homeless kids came to call father is on his death bed, but he is still alive for now.
Ryota went to a reformatory for 9 months and returned in the same book, which is great for moral, he escaped but seeing as this is a 1948 to 50 story he is probably going to be okay.
Gen's mom got sick and they saved her with the money which was the reason Ryota committed theft in the first place.
They picked up a new girl who is now living with all of them, and with the old girl they are both making clothes, I am not sure if they started selling them yet, but again, another thing great for moral.
My family were pulling their collective hair because I am reading this Manga, it's very depressing, I am already depressed, but I can't read novels since I stopped writing, and tomorrow I'll try to finish one of my opened novels, but as Barefoot Gen is borrowed, I wanted to make some progress in it, not only that I want to finish it, but there is another novel that needs 90 pages only to be finished, So I'll try to finish it first.

Trouble is I don't buy all that good and evil crap.
In truth there's a sliding scale of what civilization will tolerate at any given time.
Let's face it, Civilians who murder are criminals, while soldiers who kill are heroes.

This is actually a quote from the current comic I am reading, and I'll probably be too lazy to use it in my comic review anyway, because I am trying to be more chills about my reviews.
But it's perfect here, because USA are the bad guys in this story, the censorship on what you can say about the nuclear bomb, the fact that the entire area was left in a dire humanitarian crisis, and they were there to judge the Japanese soldiers, and censor everything about the nuclear bomb, this is the worst mass murder weapon used in history, and it was used on two islands filled with civilians who couldn't even fight back, or attack the planes flying overhead, right now in the novel they are four years after the nuclear bomb, and people are still dying from the radiation, actually 50 years later people will still be dying from the radiation, it will eventually get you, and there is not even a health system to take care of these people, only bulldozers to bury the thousands of dead people in the first year.
It's just fucking horrible honestly.
But Gen offsets all this by his unbelievable positivity, he is trying to bring everyone's spirits up who are around him, reading this while depressed, I am like, fuck you Gen you are an idiot, those people who are committing suicide everywhere because of the burns that ruined their lives are right, you are not right to save them.
It's really tough, because as long as I am depressed I'll always see the dark side in everything, this period of human history actually isn't that bad for me, because it doesn't get darker than that, I am not seeing a dark side that nobody else can see, I am seeing a dark side that everyone else can see as clear as me.

المعاناة مُستمرة، ولكن كما يوحي العنوان لا رفاهية هنا لليأس، ونرى بوادر الاجتهاد على المجموعة مع تمهيد لفقدان بعض الشخصيات.

العيد فرحة، وكانت مخاطرة كبيرة أن أختار "جن الحافي" للقراءة في العيد. لكن الجزء السادس -لحسن حظي- كان رحيمًا بي، فقد كان -حتى الآن- أقل الأجزاء سوداوية، كما قد ينبئ عنوانه: لا لليأس.

Saya benar-benar terkena kutukan karena telah membuka dan membaca barefoot gen sejak di seri yang pertama. Jadinya mau tidak mau, saya harus mengikuti sampai genap sepuluh. Yang sudah diterjemahkan sudah sampai 8.

Di bagian ini, Gen dan gerombolannya, dihadapkan pada situasi kelaparan dan saling tikam antar penduduk Jepang. Yang kebetulan menjabat posisi penting, diam-diam memanfaatkan untuk memeras atau mengambil keuntungan. Misalnya, polisi stasiun akan 'memalak' yang membawa bahan makanan ilegal (red: tidak dari pemerintah). Padahal hasil operasi itu juga akan dimakan ia sendiri. Kemudian yang menjadi yakuza akan merampok uang. Dan Gen menjadi salah satu korbannya. Bahan makanan mereka 'dipaksa'. Namun, dasarnya Gen dan Ryuta adalah bocah tengil, mulutnya kasar, dan banyak akal. Justru mereka memarahi petugas stasiun, dan orang-orang membantu marah.

Ibu Gen masih sakit-sakitan dan butuh uang untuk berobat. Ryuta malah bikin ulah, diam-diam jiwa gansgternya tumbuh. Dia merampok uang Yakuza. Akibatnya dia buron. Dia kabur ke Tokyo.

Selain, itu yang disoroti di bagian ini adalah putus asa mereka yang kebetulan tubuh dan wajahnya rusak akibat bom. Bunuh diri banyak. Kebencian terhadap perang dan bagaimana kerajaan Jepang memilih perang, makin tergambar dari sikap Gen. Satu lagi yang menarik, di chapter ini disinggung soal Papa (ayah angkat yang menolong Ryuta, Gen, dkk) menulis dan bermimpi diterbitkan sebelum mati. Namun penyakit akibta radiasi sudah menjalar dan merusak. Maka tidak ayal bila judul chapter ini Menulis Tentang Kebenaran

في هذا الجزء نكتشف كمية الظلم التي يُعاني منها الياباني.. النظام الطبي الفاسد، و ظلم الأمريكان لهم.. و ما زال جِنْ يحارب الظلم و اليأس و الألم و الظروف الصعبة التي يمر بها..
هذا الجزء فيه بعض الملل لكنه جيد ..

في كل جزء تزداد المتعه و الإثارة.. تزداد المغامره.. و يزداد معهما التأثر و الحزن.. طفل في الـ ٩ من عمره بقوه و إصرار و عزيمة رجل في الـ ٤٠ او شاب يافع في الـ٢٠.. إنه جِن.. البطل في تلك القصه.. الذي عان هو و أهله و اصدقاءه و أهل مدنة كامله من ويلات الحروب.. من القنبلة الذرية التي ألقتها أمريكا على مدينة هيروشيما و التي ابادت نصف سك��ن المدينه و عذبت النصف الأخر.. في كل مره أقرأ فيها جزء من تلك السلسله أجد نفسي في أنتظار جزئها التالي.. اقل ما يقال عنها أنها من أفضل السلاسل التي قرأتها في حياتي.

Keija Nakazawa’s semi-autobiographical account of post-atomic bomb Japan. Vol. 6 covers 1948-1950. Gen and friends are still living in desperation. His mother is dying (likely of radiation poisoning). His brother Koji is missing. His friend Ryuta is put in a reformatory after robbing a gambling den (to pay for Gen’s mother’s treatment). A girl (from an earlier volume) keeps attempting suicide. It’s grim stuff.

The Barefoot Gen series is consistent. The art and the writing is just as good as all of the previous volumes. Nakazawa continues to weave childish humor and silliness into one of the most horrific periods of human history.

الجزء السادس من سلسلة " جِنْ الحافي "
في هذا الجزء نستكمل حياة جن وعائلته ومعاناتهم ومأساة جميع من تعرض للقنبلة النووية ورغم مرور العديد من السنوات مازالت آثار القنبلة موجودة ومازال العديد من الناس الذين تعرضو للاشعاعات يمرضون وموتون بسببها .

مؤلمة ولا أعرف كيف لجن أن يبقى على أمل بعيش حياة سعيدة رغم أنه يعاني من مأساة ومجرد أن يخرج منها ويصبح على شفى السعادة حتى تأتي مأساة أخرى أقوى من سابقتها وهكذا تستمر حياته بكل ألم ولكن
"لا لليأس".

_وكما قال جن في إحدى اللحظات :
" النجاح في الدنيا صعب "

_ولكنه لم ينسى كلمات والده
"تحمل مثل القمح ، يُداس عليه ولكن تخرج براعمه"

In the sixth volume of Gen's story, the atomic bomb continues to cast its shadow over the city of Hiroshima. Even though some of the city's infrastructure has been rebuilt, corruption and crime is endemic. Scarred survivors are derided as "monsters," and forced to hide from human contact.

After Gen and Ryuta are robbed, Ryuta uses his inside knowledge of the local Yakuza operations to steal enough money to get Mrs. Nakaoke some proper medical care, shooting several gangsters in the process. Although he saves her life, he is forced to go on the run and ends up in a reformatory in another town. Gen's adoptive family continues to lose and gain members as the bomb claims another victims and a old acquaintence turns up again. Continuing the trend seen in Book Five, this installment has a more cynical, darker tone, as Gen and the others find that they must take desperate measures to survive, doing things they previously thought unthinkable.

معاناة أسرة جن تستمر فى الجزء السادس . و نتعرف هنا على جانب جديد من الشارع و البلطجة و انتشار الفاحشة و الدعارة و سوء معاملة اﻻطفال . ركز الكاتب على شخصية ريوتا و فرد لها مساحة أوسع فى الكوميديا و الانفعال و الجنون . بلا شك بطل هذا المجلد الفتى ريوتا و تصرفاته المتهورة.من جانب أخر أضاف الكاتب بعد جديد عن الصمود و البحث عن اﻻمل من خلال شخصية الفتاة متحدية الاعاقة و أظن أن هذا الخط سيستمر معنا فى المجلدات القادمة بما أن القصة بدأت تميل لجانب العودة للحياة و نبذ الموت و بداية مشروعات التجارية اﻻسرية الصغرية التى ربما ستحسن من الحالة المالية للصغار....

Nakazawa is great at times of maintaining a bit of a lighthearted tone in these books but I imagine that it's reflective of the attempts of the survivors to survive the post-bomb struggles without losing their minds. These volumes continue to be a tough read at times when the sheer injustice to this poor civilian population is highlighted and the non-stop struggles are presented clear as day.

في هذا الجزء نتعرض لجانب جديد وجوانب أخرى قديمة تطورت من الآثار النفسية والاجتماعية الناتجة عن القنبلة الذرية. القنبلة الذرية ليست مجرد سلاح تم إلقاؤه على اليابان لتكف عن الحرب وتستسلم؛ بل مات جراء هذه القنبلة الكثير من الأبرياء الذين كان يقودهم الإمبراطور\الإله الحامي لليابان كما يدعي نحو الهاوية. نواجه لفتات جديدة مع جن الصغير، هذا المفعم بالحياة رغم اليأس والذي يبث التفاؤل وحب الحياة في كل من حوله على رغم قلة حيلته، وأنه "حافي القدمين" فعلاً. فنرى المواجهة الأخلاقية حيث الطعام والكساء أولاً ثم الأخلاق ثانيًا. فهم لا يملكون طعامًا ولا ملابس فلا يجب الكلام عن المُثل والأخلاق الآن. السطوة كلها للمال. كل شيء بالمال. الدنيا تعتمد على المال، المال، المال. ثم الأمر يتعدى لتنمر اليابانيين على بعضهم البعض بسبب التشوهات التي تركتها القنبلة الذرية على وجوههم، وهم لا ذنب لهم في ذلك: فتاة مصابة بحروق من القنبلة والناس كانوا يقولون عنها عفريتة، وحاولت الانتحار كثيرًا وأخيرًا انتحرت. القنبلة القذرة التي غيّرت نفوس الناس. يقدم جن لأخته وصفة الحياة التي تجعلها تواجه الحياة من جديد: "اعتبري نفسك مت وولدت من جديد وعيشي على هذا الأساس. هناك أشياء كثيرة أخرى نفعلها في الحياة، كوني قوية وعيشي." ثم نصل في النهاية إلى ما ابتدئ به من الأزمة الأخلاقية فيعلن الصبي ريوتا في حزم:
"الجميع يعرفون أن القتل شيء سيء، ولكن هناك أشياء لا يمكن حلها بالعقل."

لا لليأس وهيا نعش من أجل تحقيق الأهداف، تستمر مغامرة جن وأصدقائه في هذا الجزء السادس من مانغا جن الحافي، والهدف هو تحسين الوضع الاقتصادي للمجموعة بمحاولة بيع الرصاص وشراء آلة خياطة، وعلى الرغم من مرور أربع سنوات على كارثة هيروشيما والقنبلة الذرية فإن المأساة ما زالت مستمرة إلا أنها لم تمنع الرفاق من المضي قدما متفائلين بحياة أفضل..
تبدأ أحداث الجزء من محاولة الناس شراء الأرز من الريف ومصادرة الشرطة لتلك المشتريات باعتبارها تهريبا مخالفا للقوانين ثم ثورة الشعب عليهم، وتنتقل القصة إلى حدث مهم وهو إيجاد وسيلة لعلاج والدة جن خاصة بعد انقطاع أخبار كوجي الذي غادر ليعمل في منجم، وهنا أتى الفرج عبر ريوتا إذ سرق مبلغا ضخما يغطي تكلفة علاجها من عصابة للمراهنات غير القانونية فجر غضبهم عليه مما اضطره إلى تسليم نفسه للشرطة لتحميه في إصلاحية ريثما تنساه العصابة ويعود وهذا ما يحصل في نهاية الجزء إذ يهرب ويرجع إلى هيروشيما..
ما زال ناكازاوا كيجي يرصد مأساة الحرب على الأطفال خصوصا وما زالت الترجمة جيدة..

قبل اى شئ واعتذر عن تأخرى فى هذا المدح والشكر
كل الشكر للاستاذ الدكتور المترجم القدير ماهر الشربينى الذى فتح لنا هذا المنجم الثرى والادب الشيق من عشرية جن الحافى والذى اتمنى ان يصله رجائى باستكمال اعماله الطيبة وترجمة مذكرة الموت لتتم المتعة والتعرف اكثر على الادب اليابانى الممتع
اما بخصوص هذا الجزء فلا جديد متعة بالكراميل وارتباط غير عادى بجن الحافى هذا الولد المشاغب المشاكس المحارب فى دروب الحياة
العيل اتمرمط واتهرس لكن صامد وقلبه جاحد ملوش حل
اجمل جزء عجبنى لما الرجل الكبير فى السن رآه بيبيع جماجم فلام عليه وقال عيل فاسد فطبعا رد عليه الرد الشهير بتاع كل الشباب عندنا
يعنى انتو وحلتونا الوحله دى وبتلومو علينا
نفس الجمل ونفس الفكر ونفس الناس اللى بتخربها عليهم وعلى الاجيال اللى جاية بعدها والبجاحة بتلوم عليها ويقولوا عليهم جيل فاسد ارعن

Gen’s a little older now, though it’s hard to figure out how much. Ryuta is willing to risk everything, with his big heart, and gets money needed to treat Mrs Nakamora. Natsue (who we remember from an earlier installment) comes across Gen again, and is depressed. Gen still doesn’t understand why anyone would want to die (part of me wonders if this is the child in him - able to keep going with such irascible hope and judgement on those “weaker” than him) but he recognizes she needs help and brings her to Papa and Katsuji and the rest. The anger against the American occupation is starting to really fester in this volume, and ask if the bomb was really necessary. I’m not surprised these later volumes had trouble finding an audience in the US, which is truly so sad.

لا يمكننا الحزن أكثر من ذلك
تلك الجملة التي سيطرت على الأحداث في هذا الجزء.. بالفعل لا يمكن التعمق في المأساة وإلا قد تفقد عقلك .. بشكل لا إرادي ستبدأ الأجهزة الدفاعية في نكران ما يحدث لتستطيع العيش رغم كل الآلام
هذا الجزء يتخذ شكل تشريحي وتفصيلي كبير لشخصية المجتمع الياباني بعد الحرب والقنبلة حيث غريزة البقاء والأنانية المفرطة للتمكن من العيش والاستمرار
وقد تكون تلك الشخصية مستمرة حتى يومنا هذا فهم شعب عانى كثيرا وتجدهم ذوي عقول عملية جدا .. هل القنبلة انتقصت منهم الكثير من العاطفة والتعاطف؟ ربما!
بنهاية الأمر الحقيقة الوحيدة هي انهم جميعا اجتهدوا واجتهدوا واجتهدوا ليتمكنوا من العيش والاستمرار
إذا حاولت عد كلمة اجتهد ومشتقاتها داخل السلسلة لن تستطيع حصرها فعلا
