What a treat this was!

I can not begging to explain how happy I was to read a 'real' love story where there wasn't any BDSM, or too-much-too-fast intimacy or too naïve/virgin female versus the cocky/experienced male or an unrealistic plot. This book is the opposite of all that, so no wonder I quite enjoyed it :)

I got it in a book-bundle and was surprised and amazed with the story. The characters are believable, as is the plot and the way they get together builds up WITH the novel. Loved it. Will DEFINITELY read other Selena Blake's novels :)

This is a story that will draw you from the minute you open the book but it will not let you go. Nope, you will want to know more about this awesome group of friends and their adventures through life. This story, even though it is about a retired NFL player and most of us in our lives will never meet one – much less date one, is written in a way that brings all the characters down to earth and into your heart. Ms. Blake has a way with her words that has you cheering on the characters as they embark on journey’s they never saw themselves going on, facing challenges in their lives, but holding their hand during the heartbreak they go through.

JJ, Julia to those closest to her, is damn good at what she does. No matter who the subject of her story is, she makes sure to get the best story. Being the best journalist in the sport industry makes her very sought after – even if she does not believe that. That is one reason why she goes by JJ… to help her in the field. She has had to deal with some big names in the industry, but one always stuck with her – Trevor Wyatt. He has starred in more dreams than she cares to mention but she never lead on to anyone that she crushed on him. Not even her three best friends! They share everything, but there are some things that Julia just has not shared with her friends… Julia has been the one to always play it safe, never take risks… but that all changes when she walks into a shoe store to find the man of her lusty dreams behind the counter… wanting to wait on her!

Trevor is use to all the attention he attracts. Being a retired NFL player can do that to a man. He has had his share of women and enjoyed the side of celebrity but he has also experienced the side that brings around stalkers and just straight up crazy-ass women/men. That is the side he does not want, he did not ask for. He has been looking over his shoulder because of these types of people. He just wants a normal, or what normal he can have life… he wants a woman he can trust, love and bring home to his family. But that is kinda hard to do when you block yourself off from the world… Until one day, helping out his cousin, puts him in line to offer his service to the woman he has been wanting for a long time… Julia Fairchild… The one woman that gets him and understands him… the one woman that could destroy him…

This story has such a range of emotions for all of its characters. This story is about Julia and Trevor, but you meet Julia’s best friends, her brothers and her dad. You also meet Trevor’s family and in meeting all of these people, Ms. Blake writes it so that you want to know more about those as well… especially Julia’s best friends… I just know that their stories should come (if they haven’t already) and Julia’s brothers. The family does not interfere with the story of Julia and Trevor but they add spices to the story that will have you laughing and going “aweee.” And let me say that even though Julia is a wizard with her words on paper… the bedroom is a different matter and the way Trevor makes her Ask For It! ;)

Sweet Sexy Contemporary Romance…

Sometimes life gives you a second chance at love. Have you ever really seriously liked someone but when they asked you out you said no time and time again? Not because you didn’t want to but because circumstances just weren’t right. Yet you never forgot that person. And what if years later the opportunity arose again; would you say yes this time? Just read this book to find out what JJ’s answer to that question is for that is how “Ask For It” begins.

This is a really sweet contemporary romance with a family theme. The main and supporting characters are very likeable and you soon become invested in all of them. JJ and Trevor are the cutest sexy couple, they complement each other well and even though they never consummated any type of relationship in the past they thought of each other often and now in the present their fun begins. In real life things are never easy, we all have the ghosts of our past traumas that we bring with us to any relationship and sometimes there are outside forces to be contended with; JJ and Trevor do have theirs to deal with and they do so admirably and with much amusing banter and yes some tears.

Trevor is strong, protective and such a sweetheart. JJ being a sports journalist is tough in her profession but when it comes to the personal she’s rather shy and not as vocal as she could be though when it comes to family and those she cares about she is a very protective fighter.

Trevor is so in tune with JJ’s needs and teaches her how to ask for what she truly wants not just from him but in all things. He gives her what she needs to become confidant in the areas she wasn’t. I found his understanding touching and the growth both characters exhibited perfect. Trevor isn’t the only teacher in this book; JJ teaches Trevor the meaning of true loyalty and helps him to face his pains. The chemistry between the two was palpable. I loved that Selena Blake gave us alternating POV’s. This reader always likes to hear what each character is thinking.

I really enjoyed this story, I laughed, I grinned, and I felt their troubles and rooted for the both of them to figure things out. Selena Blake did not disappoint this reader. I hope we get to see these characters again in the future.

This is one of my favorite passages, Trevor’s swoon-worthy thoughts that illustrate the flavor of this book: “She was a warrior goddess… who would have known? Fierce and loyal, he made a mental note never to get on her bad side. And man, did she have a way with words. Once again, she’d turned his upside down world right side up again. He leaned forward and cupped her cheeks. Staring back and forth into her eyes he knew without a doubt that he’d never love anyone the way he loved her.”

I LOVED THE STORYLINE. A VERY GOOD BOOK ABOUT THE PRICE YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR FAME. BEING FAMOUS IS LIKE GETTING CAUGHT IN A NEVER ENDING GIANT SH*T STORM. THEY HAVEN'T INVENTED AN UMBRELLA OR ANYTHING ELSE THAT CAN KEEP YOU PROTECTED FROM THE SH*T. I ALWAYS SAY I'D LIKE THEIR MONEY BUT YOU CAN KEEP WHAT COMES WITH IT. THIS WAS A NICE ROMANTIC H.O.T. READ THE SPARKS FLEW BETWEEN TREAVOR & J.J. THEY LIT FIRE TO THEIR BED SHEETS, COUNTERS, CHAIRS, WALLS AND A WHOLE LOT OF INVENTIVE PLACES. I WOULD LOVE TO READ MORE ABOUT SOME OF THE OTHER CHARACTERS IN THIS STORY. IT DID SEEM LIKE THE AUTHOR LEFT US READERS WONDERING WHAT HAPPENED TO CIN, BABY, ADAM, GREG, MARCUS, GRETCHEN, AND KYLE. HMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm? I'M ASKING FOR MORE!!!

I have always been a devote reader of Selena Blake’s paranormal romances, but I have now been introduced to a whole new side of this astounding author.
A brilliantly written story about two deeply secretive people, who value their family, friends and privacy above all else, but are thrust into the public eye at every turn.
The story is filled with so many elements; mystery, suspense, devotion, suspicion, loyalty and passion, that it creates one of the best contemporary romances books I have ever read.
Congratulations to Selena Blake for once again keeping me enthralled to the very last page.

I loved these characters!! Trevor is not the typical jock we expect but a wounded yet caring man. JJ is a woman with a lot going on in her life and when she has a chance run in with Trevor she takes the opportunity that she has been denying herself for years. I enjoyed reading the characters work through both of their emotional issues and eventually being able to come together as a couple should. Definitely looking for more works by this author.

Previously, I had only read Selena Blake's paranormal stories but this book she hit out of the park. The characters were real in their presentation and reactions. I loved how Trevor and Julia faced each new challenge with true-to-life and mature responses. There were no artificial, self-inflicted road blocks to the romance. I felt like I was watching a real relationship unfold. Excellent contemporary romance.

This book was hot, even with a HEA and a less than promiscuous heroine, I definitely will be reading more from this authour. I liked the style and the pace, the characters were wonderfully developed and three-dimensional, and real in their actions and reactions, even if they weren't everyday people with everyday jobs!

This one follows JJ, a sports reporter, and Trevor, a retired football star she once turned down, until fate gives them another shot.

It’s got the classic second chance romance vibe, with a protective hero, a shy heroine finding her confidence, and plenty of steamy moments.

I liked the idea, but the writing didn’t really work for me. I had a hard time connecting with the characters, there seemed to be a lot of focus on the steamier scenes, which felt cringey to me, and less time on rounding out the characters. I think it is a good story and has so much more potential! Still, if you’re into light, trope filled sports romances, with lots of spice 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 this might be your thing more than mine.

Uh no wonder this was free on Apple Books wtf this writing was worse than MINE . The story was also shit but not too bad… when it said fast burn BROTHER THEY WERE MAKING OUT BEFORE IT HIT 10% THROUGH. basic boring ass book with random smut also tbh I think I skipped 6 ish chapters and didn’t notice until I switched to reading on my iPad and I think that shows the LACK OF PLOT THERE WAS NONE until some random storyline popped in In the last 100 pages of the stalker … also I hate that she proposed EW 😍😭😊✌️

HOT. Just plain freaking HOT. Part of the Alpha Bad Boys pack.
Former NFL star Trevor Wyatt has had a thing for sports Journalist JJ or Julia Fairchild for years. She has interviewed him more times than either can count and well... she honestly returns the crush though she never accepted his dinner requests over the years. Now Trevor has retired from football and JJ is quietly seeking new roads and a few chance things occur to put JJ and Trevor back into each others lives. This time though Trevor is going to backoff and JJ has decided to accept that dinner invite. Ask For It starts out with some crazy chemistry and some massive heat... (hehe pun not intended, but hey it worked out). It is told from multiple POV's and done so very well. We watch Trevor and JJ battle some inner demons and some outside demons to make things work. The book is fiercely passionate and steamy and definately filled with action.
I'm just going to do Trevor and JJ in character analysis, but let me just say that there are some crazy awesome supporting characters that I hope I see get their own stories. I actually need to check into that! Anyway Trevor... is so not a bad boy. I'm sorry , but he isn't. Yes he was a player and partied, but he is an all around great guy. I loved Trevor. He had a good heart, great family, hot, great personality, caring, sweet... the list is long. JJ is just as awesome. She had a spunky personality and is a tomboy and I love that! She was all girl with the tomboy thrown in there. She was a great character and smart. I enjoyed reading her POV and about her from the others. She has a great support system just like Trevor too. Then get them together and dear lord was it explosive... they were hot. I loved them together and they kept things interesting for sure!
This is one for my favorites list. I loved it! It was a lot of fun and I will be checking out other books by Selena Black!!!

JJ was very young when her mom was left to raise her alone. She still remembers how poor they were and losing the only home she had ever had. Her mom remarries and she has a dad now who is wonderful to her. She also has 3 brothers, 2 older and one a few months younger. She is a tom boy through and through and pursues a journalism career in sports. Several times she is interviewing the hot young football star in the dressing room after a game. She is attracted to Trevor, but despite that and his many invitations out she never sees him socially. He is in a car wreck and his football career is over. He had saved most of his money and made many wise investments. JJ enjoys living in Atlanta with 3 best friends she gets together with weekly and they keep up on each other's lives, try new wines and blow off some steam. Trevor is living in NY. They have a chance meeting in NY and the attraction is explosive. They have a long distance relationship. When work takes her to NY they see each other and several times he hops a plane to Atlanta. They both have issues making their relationship difficult. She hates her current boss. She has written a novel with sports as the backdrop, yet can't tell her best friends or Trevor, for fear the book won't sell. When they all find out anyway, they are more supportive than she could imagine. She and Trevor have to make some changes or they have to break up. Things just can't go on the way they are. Can they both learn to ask for what they really want in and out of the bedroom?

This is a great book! Trevor is a retired football player, who has been attracted to J J, a sports writer for years. They see each other in New York, while J J is there on business and start dating. Long distance romances aren't easy though. Trevor is a wonderful guy and slowly teaches J J to open up to him. J J doesn't want to date Trevor, but she can't resist him. I loved this book and would highly recommend it!

3.75~~I very much enjoyed Trevor and Julia in this contemporary romance. Not usually one for reading straight romance, I was still pulled into the story. I like Blake's writing style. She didn't use some to the tired straight romance plot devices that tend to irritate me. There was no 'big misunderstanding,' really. Mainly, Trevor had to come to grips with his past and trust Julia. I was impressed by Julia's stand at the end...she is a strong, admirable character.

It was ok. Glad I got it for free as I would have been disappointed to pay for it. The chapters would jump forward randomly. At the end it mentions the letters restarting but there was no resolution to this. Wouldn’t continue the series as it wasn’t gripping enough. Most issues usually happen in the middle and longer than a couple of pages.

A absolute fun, sweet, and entertaining read.
The author gave you great characters to read about and enjoy them through what I would could call a touchdown of a love story. I like that the story was almost realistic without a huge amount of drama and conflict. It was just a fun relaxing read.

good but not a sports romance

I enjoyed this book a lot but don’t consider it a sports romance, despite the cover and title. The H is a retired player but there are no scenes set at games or practices despite the h being a sports journalist whose job is to attend games and interview players. It’s supposed to be a huge part of her life yet we never actually read about her doing her main job. There is more description about her side hustle flipping houses and writing romance books. And we’re left hanging about the sales and promotion about her book that was a big part of the plot. We’re also left hanging at the end about a stalker plot. On the more positive side, the romance with Trevor is hot and romantic and there is depth to the story when we learn about his car accident, his fears, and JJ’s childhood. Trevor and JJ know each other from when she used to interview him after football games. He asked her out on numerous occasions but she never wanted to be a notch on his bedpost. Fast forward 6 years when they accidentally run into each other again. The attraction is still there and this time JJ goes with it. Trevor is not perfect but makes a pretty good book boyfriend. JJ is strong and sassy and I love how she interacts with her brothers and Trevor. The book could use a little extra editing but it’s not a major issue or too distracting. The stalker plot at the end seems to appear out of thin air and I can only assume that some paragraphs mentioning the new stalker letters were deleted as we’re missing the explanation on those. Despite those glitches, I enjoyed the book and the characters and plan to read more in the series.

Loved the cover and picked this up as a freebie. The premise was awesome but it ended up being a miss for me.

🏈 They met one time as a reconnection after a while apart and it was insta love, plus they way they met was a little too coincidental. Main characters were inseparable from the first chapter and the relationship progressed way too quickly.

🏈 Third person POV wasn't it for this one, especially with 4 different people we're reading about.

🏈 Why are we following around a second couple and why did that couple also have insta-love? If I'm supposed to be invested in the MCs then there should not be a half-attempted second couple in there with a story that has no draw or any important additions to the plot of the MCs.

🏈 Why is there random melodrama around the FMC writing a book and why was this in there at all? She's a sports journalist/reporter/house flipper/author and it's just too much and not at all plausible.

This sports romance left a lot to be desired. I would not recommend it.

Honestly, it was cute and the characters were loveable but the storyline was pretty lacking. To be fair, it was a free read on iBooks so I can’t really complain. Not bad, it was an easy read.
I don’t plan to read the rest of the series though tbh

SPOILERS:?
- The shoe theme was weird? If it was a cute quirk the author emphasized throughout the story i would have considered it a little more but I feel like it was mentioned and then forgotten and then randomly mentioned again.

- Nothing really happened plot wise until the last like 100 pages. They got it on in the first chapter and it was smooth sailing from then on. I don’t mind a fast burn but i needed more to the story

- I would have preferred if it was written from just trevor and JJs perspective. The random insights into Cindy’s life was a little confusing and probably should have just been saved for a different book?

Trevor and Julia

JJ is ok for a girl's nickname, but I agree with Trevor that Julia fits our girl much better. She's just enough tomboy to be able to pull off JJ, but also woman enough to be her total true self. It's adorable that Trevor had been asking her out through the years that she'd interviewed him, but she'd held off saying yes until he was no longer playing football. Trevor and Julia are HOT!

Very instalove and, honestly, the hero was too perfect. I don't need a ton of angst, but there was no conflict at all until almost the end of the book and that point I was pretty much just skimming. The author is a very good writer and I enjoyed the dialogue and the great relationship between the friends.

Sexy, steamy read

Take a journalist and former football player, mix in family and friends, along with some tortured pasts and what you get is a sexy steamy romance. Gillian Blakely brings us JJ and Trevor. She gives us well written characters and plots for some sexy times. JJ and her girls have a standing girls night so Ccn't wait to read the next story.

This book barely had a plot. For a synopsis that said he would teach her how to ask for what she wants in bed, it was disappointingly light on dirty talk and spicy scenes. I was honestly at around 40% when an actually plot started but then it slowed down and some subplots remained open. I should have DNF’d right when JJ called sex the horizontal hanky panky.

1. I feel like the stalker was randomly thrown in. I would’ve loved for that to have been a bigger part of the story!
2. Call me a traditionalist but I wish he was the one to propose at the end!
3. I wish there was more of a chase at the beginning. They got together super quick but made for a cute love story!

Overall a cute read!
