Lost Holiday

Rate this book
Three long-since-forgotten holiday icons must leave behind their cushy lifestyles in Holiday Land and come to Earth to reignite interest in their holiday or suffer permanent banishment.

Lenny, Barthalimule, and Toby the Yak have gotten distracted by the luxuries of Holiday Land, far too busy rubbing elbows with fellow holiday figures across the calendar. Having put zero effort into promoting their holiday and its meaning in well over a thousand years, the icons have faded from minds, from family traditions—forgotten by all on Earth. With no believers left, their time in Holiday Land is up, and the three quirky friends must come down out of the clouds and make one last attempt to get people excited about their holiday.

Not long after arriving in New York City, the trio runs into another lost soul—a young teenager named Trixie. Orphaned by tragedy, Trixie and her 17-year-old brother, Ben, have only each other. When Trixie teams up with the crazy holiday characters in an attempt to revive this forgotten holiday, they may just save each other while also reminding one another of the true meaning of family and friendship.

I won this book in a goodreads drawing.

This is kids' book, but it resembles a 1980's teen/slob comedy, only without the innuendos and nudity. Three icons representing a forgotten holiday are kicked out of the country club of holiday figures. The only way they can come back in is to make two people on earth believe in them. A big problem is that they don't believe in themselves. They've forgotten what their holiday is supposed to mean themselves.

Sent back to Earth, they have a lot of problems adjusting, but find themselves allied with the usual young girl, who is pursued by the usual bullies and an insane social worker.

Pretty funny, and there's some meaning behind it.

I didn't realize this was a children's book until I started reading it on my kindle. Won this ARC on-line. Normally wouldn't be something I pick up and was a little over the top for me but did have a cute ending and strong family values, no matter what you'd family may look like.
