I have to thank r/whatsthatbook for helping me remember this one. I knew the premise, the plot, and the ending of this book, but could not for the life of me remember what it was called or who wrote it. I remember reading this as a kid and feeling deeply unsettled by it, while also learning a lot about speaking up and trusting your instincts. If I remember correctly, I read it in one sitting.
