The Name
People refer to the name of the Lord God for many reasons. Religious people are prone to worship it, often with misguided motives. Marginal Christians know how to end prayers with it, having heard it invoked at baptisms, weddings, and funerals. Those who say they have no use for God will regularly profane His name in the vain attempt to embellish curses or emphasize their particular point. As we view each of the divine names discussed in this book, I encourage you to ask yourself two questions. When you have heard of these names in the past, did the teaching involve what God could do for you, or were you inspired to partner with Him? Were you motivated to believe to receive something from Him, or to give something to Him? The seven Spirits of God reveal His personality, and how He moves toward the accomplishment of His intents. The names show us how God desires to partner with us in establishing the Kingdom of God.
