Mastery of Hand Strength

Rate this book
Mastery of Hand Strength is the beloved book on grip strength that just about every grip guy in the last 10 years has read, probably at least twice. And now there's a reason to read it yet again. John has added a whole raft of new training ideas and approaches, 38 new exercises on crushing grip and dynamic training with hand grippers, pinch grip, dumbbells, fingers and wrists--all newly-minted material that is typical of John's creativity and cutting-edge thinking. If strong hands and mighty wrists appeal to you, it's your starting point for world-class grip and lower-arm strength.

Very interesting read, not what I expected, as it’s not an academic source of information at all but more of a training log from a master of the sport. There are lots of novel recommendations on how to train the hands, wrists and forearms as well as real world know how on building equipment for cheap. It is definitely pretty grip focused and only briefly touches on other muscle groups in the lower arm, but as far as a book on feats of strength involving squeezing it’s an invaluable source.

A great book on some basics of grip training. My only complaint is that after virtually ever single exercise he reminds the reader to be sure to train both hands. The book would probably be 30-40% shorter if not for that repetition.
