Speechless: Facilitating Communication for People Without Voices

Rate this book
Twenty years ago Crossley developed the technique by which people who cannot speak because of neurological or other disorders can communicate by typing on a keyboard with the assistance of a professional facilitator. Here she chronicles her struggle to get the approach accepted and used. Among other stories, she recounts that of teenager Annie MacDonald, who later wrote Annie's Coming Out . This was an incredible book I read about the rescue of Anne MacDonald. The author's account of Anne's journey is a must-read for all of us who work with people who cannot talk and can only act out their terrible frustration until someone spends time with them, believes in them, and unlocks their being to set them free.
