Driving home from Portland on the 11th, I listened to an NPR retrospective on the crash into a Pennsylvania field on Sep 11, 2001, of a jet liner hijacked and headed toward Washington D.C, probably to crash into the Capitol Building or White House. Family members of those killed were interviewed, and I found it very moving.

When I worked as a librarian I often recommended juvenile non-fiction books to patrons who wanted a broad overview of a subject, who didn't need an in-depth study. This book gave me just enough. I had forgotten that there was a theory floated soon after the events of that horrendous day that American 93 was shot down by a military fighter jet. Pentagon officials denied the rumor. The FBI, in their investigation, confirmed that there was no evidence to support the theory and that it was, indeed, a rumor.

The book was published in 2003. In the broadcast I learned that the crash site has been named a national memorial. It's looked upon as a cemetery.
