Annie's visit to the castle of Bavia's royal family is supposed to be idyllic and romantic, but instead Annie finds a slightly tarnished Prince, a peasant rebellion, an arranged wedding--and a chance to lose her heart. Original.
The daughter of a town marshal, Linda Lael Miller is a #1 New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author of more than 100 historical and contemporary novels, most of which reflect her love of the West. Raised in Northport, Washington, Linda pursued her wanderlust, living in London and Arizona and traveling the world before returning to the state of her birth to settle down on a spacious property outside Spokane. Linda traces the birth of her writing career to the day when a Northport teacher told her that the stories she was writing were good, that she just might have a future in writing. Later, when she decided to write novels, she endured her share of rejection before she sold Fletcher’s Woman in 1983 to Pocket Books. Since then, Linda has successfully published historicals, contemporaries, paranormals, mysteries and thrillers before coming home, in a literal sense, and concentrating on novels with a Western flavor. For her devotion to her craft, the Romance Writers of America awarded her their prestigious Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007. Long a passionate Civil War buff, Linda has studied the era avidly for almost thirty years. She has read literally hundreds of books on the subject, explored numerous battlegrounds and made many visits to her favorite, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, where she has witnessed re-enactments of the legendary clash between North and South. Linda explores that turbulent time in The Yankee Widow, a May 7, 2019 MIRA Books hardcover, also available in digital and audiobook formats. Dedicated to helping others, “The First Lady of the West” personally financed fifteen years of her Linda Lael Miller Scholarships for Women, which she awarded to women 25 years and older who were seeking to improve their lot in life through education. She anticipates that her next charitable endeavors will benefit four-legged critters. Book 3 in the Quaid series. This is the daughter of Patrick and Charlotte Trevarren. She is best friends with Phaedra St James who she met St Aspasia Academy for Fine Women. Phaedra is a princess of Bavia in the Mediterraen and Annie has been in love with Prince Rafael since she was 12 years old. The country is nearly overthrown by rebels and they are in the castle waiting for the wedding of Phaedra and Chandler Haslett to take place. Annie has the soul of an adventurer and relives her mother's adventures almost step by step. She is rescued from a ledge, near killing and is witness to a shooting when they seek further adventures dressed up as common workers. Rafael is an honorable man, widowed when he then wife steps in front a bullet meant for him. He is also a man who feelings for Annie, passionate and stubborn. The story seems a little forced and repetative.
It's been years since I read Yankee Wife, but I just read Taming Charlotte and this is basically the exact same book. Maybe Yankee Wife was too, I don't remember. Some of the events happened in different places and in different order but Princess Annie was the same story: girl who climbs something and gets stuck, falls in love with her rescuer, dresses in disguise to go to the marketplace, gets kidnapped, crawls through tunnels, there's a spiteful half-brother who wants to inherit the kingdom, a war, injured hero. It's not a bad story but if you still remember what happened in Taming Charlotte it's not necessary to read this one.
I liked this book fairly well but was a little disappointed in it. I'm a Linda lael Miller fan and usually enjoy all of her books very much. This one fell a little short of those expectations. The love story between Annie Trevarren & Raphael St James was lukewarm. Annie had a childhood crush on Raphael that goes into her adulthood. Raphael takes duty over love. Their love scenes were fairly hot but always cooled off quickly with regret. The impending war/revolution I think overshadowed the whole story rather than just playing to the background. Annie's best friend Phaedra is a selfish spoiled brat & didn't seem to reciprocate the same friendship that Annie showed her.I don't know how Annie could stand her except as a way to stay close to Raphael. I felt the middle of the book was just to long & had a hard time keeping my interest. The last 15% of the book was quite worth while & everything worked itself out. I don't know if I would recommend this book. I'm on the fence with it. It wasn't a bad book,it wasn't great either. This author's books are generally quite more engaging.
PRINCESS ANNIE - G Miller, Linda Lael - 3rd in Quade series
Annie's visit to the castle of Bavia's royal family is supposed to be idyllic and romantic, but instead Annie finds a slightly tarnished Prince, a peasant rebellion, an arranged wedding--and a chance to lose her heart.
I'm never that big on the fictitous country/royal family scenario, and here the country was constantly in revolt, but it was still enjoyable.
I kind of got excited when I realized who Annie actually was. I knew her parents name sounded familiar and then recalled having read there story & enjoying it so I was then really looking forward to the story. It ended up being a good story.
