This book was bad. I think it was going for a funny vibe but it falls very flat. Three siblings, who tend to be a bit much for their mother, decide to surprise her for Mother's Day. While they might mean well, their efforts are over-the-top and disastrous. When Mom discovers what they've been up to, she "snaps."

First, the children are out of control and the mother does nothing to discipline them or correct their behavior. Instead she "asks questions" such as "What am I going to do with you?" and "Are you trying to drive me insane?" As things escalate, she resorts to yelling "Stop that!" and "Knock it off!"

Then, after things go terribly wrong on Mother's Day, she snaps: smoke blows out her ears and she shoots like a rocket through the ceiling. The kids think this is hilarious and shout "Do it again! Do it again!" And that's the end of the story. The mother is nothing more than a source of entertainment.

Following the story are short biographical notes on the author and illustrator, a glossary (as if we need to be told the meaning of "boogers"), an irrelevant two-page spread on chocolate chips, discussion questions, writing prompts and a page about an internet site.

I can't find anything redeeming about this book. Throughout the story, it's the kids who control the action; the mother isn't an authority figure. Nor do we see any kind of a relationship between her and her children; they completely ignore her. I work in the children's room of a public library and I see examples of this ineffectual parenting far too often. I don't think it needs to be reinforced by books like this. It sets multiple bad examples and it isn't well written. As if that's not enough, a librarian reviewer and a reading consultant are listed on the title page. Did they even read this book?

Warning- this book is straight up terrible. My 10 year old and I agree.

No moral, no conclusion, shallow unlikeable characters, how was this published?

Stone Arch book. Young graphic novel. Pretty funny. Kind of along the lines of my pb about the kid who babysits his younger sister. When Mom snaps, she literally goes through the roof!

Had a very abrupt ending. The mom snapped and the end. A disappointment. And I'm not particularly fond of graphic novels, but I was willing to give this one a try due to the title.
