Beggars and Choosers
If wishes were horses, beggars might ride. This old adage describes the fate of a little known poet, Eleazar Hastings, a man driven finally to suicidal despair. After his death his estranged widow, Susannah Litwell approaches El’s old friend from his San Francisco days, Alden Lundy, to request that El’s papers be admitted to Sheridan University Library’s Literary Archive. This book was unlike anything I've read before, because the storyline was pretty slow and boring, but I found myself sooo invested in the characters! Like I missed them for days after I finished the book. I don't know how Laura Kalpakian did it, but she got me to care about them without even realizing it or knowing why.

A very good first book for a writer who has become much more.
